No grants have been made due to lack of applications. We welcome applications from health
workers for small grants to cover travel and conference expenses, There is a restricted fund for
this purpose.
In planning and carying out these activities the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued
by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
This 150th year of the society has seen most of the meetings held at Nuffield Hospital, Clifton and
we remain grateful for their support. We have been able to livestream most of the meetings and
recordings of most are kept online, accessed through our website.
We are aware that material goes out of date and review recordirvJs at the end of each year to
decide if to delete any.
We have not published any edllions of the West of England Joumal this year. We are looking
restartlng it.
We are very aware of. and grateful for. the help of volunteers in running the society.
Financlal revlew
We contlnue to work alongslde the old Medlctrchirurgical society who transfer any subscriptions
they receive to our account. All subscribed members of this charity are members of the old charity.
The treasurer's report has been published separately. It shows that our financial position remains
fragile. The subscriptions cover administration costs, Meal income covers meetlng costs. The
income for the old Med-chi helps with web and other costs but this is diminishing as its
subscribers reduce.
This year we have placed most of the funds of the society in a low interest bearing 35day notice
account operated by Natwest who are our bankers.

At the end of the year the charity held just under £10,500 of which about £1,500 Is held for grant
making. Overall we would have made a loss of £500 rf we have not had money from the old Med
Chl.
This year has seen a high cost for the website - of over £2000- this has been due to the hosting
company prlces escalating. We have spent some time discussing how to update the website - the
operating system is old and not maintained but there is some debate on what the website should
contain. We are now in the process of transferring the website to a much cheaper host and expect
these costs to moderate thls year.
Structure, governance and management
The charity is govemed by a constitution that has been approved by the Charity Commlssioners
and Is registered as a Charftsble Incorporated Organisation - this is a reglstered charlty that can
operate legally as a company without registering as a company with Companies House. With an
income under £25,000 the reporting requirements are relatively light.
We are also registered with HMRC for gift aid and as an employer of our part time administrator
Ms Purver.
Trustees are automatically members of the goveming committee. The committee includes the
minimum of President, President Elect (and past President), and Treasurer. The committee seeks
and appoints trustees, and welcome approaches from all. No body extemal to the committee nor
person Is ent5tled to appoint a trustee.
We have a close relationship with the old Med Chl.
Plans for future
Under our President elect Prof Parag Singh we are explorlng new sponsorship and using a variety
of venues as well as online meetings to boost attendance. We also expect the website changes to
be finallsed by November.
