Coronavirus Pandemic Impact
In January 2021 the government announced the closure of non essential retail/leisure facilities until April 2021. This meant swimming lessons were put on hold and no activity or sales were recorded for this quarter. Leisure facilities opened in April 2021 and we resumed teaching at some of our venues. Some venues closed or we were unable to return as a hirer.
Aims/Objectives of our charity:
To advance the education of the public in the subject of swimming and water safety. Creating lifelong learners and participants.
To advance the education of the pupils at educational institutions by providing swimming lessons. Teaching children vital skills of swimming, water safety and install life long skills.
To provide educational water safety courses for children in north Staffordshire to attend. Educating and increasing knowledge of risks involved with water activities.
Charity Overview:
The charity operates within Staffordshire. Water Stars Foundation delivers educational swimming lessons for children to learn to swim. Water Stars Foundation delivers regular water safety courses for children to attend and gain knowledge and skills to stay safe in and around water. We work closely with schools in educational swimming lessons and train teachers in water safety
Income from charity over the 12month period:
Income received from members to the CIO during the financial period was £335,707. This income was from both Educational establishments (Schools) and Water Stars Foundation members.
Spent money in the last year:
Wages and salaries spend for the financial period was £163,401. Rent expenditure to pools account for £35,775 of outgoings. This was for all swimming pools we hired at during 2021. This is expected to rise in the next accounting year as we have been closed for covid for 4 months and a number of swimming pools haven’t reopened.
Achievements and performances:
We have continued to teach children to learn to swim and grow our number of swimmers each week. Therefore achieving our goals and objectives in advancing the education of swimming.
A fnancial review including any debts and details of your reserves policy:
Water Stars Foundation has begun to repay the bounce back government loan from May 2021. We are aiming to grow the reserves in the bank to £150,000 to cover 6 months of staffing wages.
How have we carried out our charity purposes for the public beneft?
Our charity purposes are continuing to benefit the public, as we are offering members the opportunity to be educated and learn the skills essential in order to swim and stay safe in the water environment. Delivering schemes of work and delivering progressive swimming lessons whilst monitoring and assessing children.
Future plan
Over the next 12 months we want Water Stars Foundation to continue to grow its number of members. This would allow more children access to our services and receive swimming tuition. Therefore, providing more members the opportunity to become lifelong participants and the skills to continue to stay safe in and around water including every-day life when visiting the seaside, going abroad, visiting canals or rivers etc. We are developing our water safety section and links with more schools.
We will aim to continue to grow our school educational lessons in line with government National Curriculum guidelines.
Recruiting
In 2022 we are looking to recruit new swimming teachers and grow our trustee’s base so we can help to grow our objectives and goals further across Staffordshire.
