## **The Objects of the Charity**
To promote, for the benefit of the public, the conservation protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of, in particular but not exclusively, Jim’s Field, Alton.
## **Summary of Activities During the Year**
This year was focussed on planning and managing Jim’s Field and engaging volunteers, when possible, to carry out the required work. In the period after Covid it became increasingly difficult to engage volunteers and work on the field was mainly down to a small number of Trustees and the Treasurer.
## **The year’s activity included:**
1. Monitoring biodiversity – A baseline of the presence of different species has been established from existing information on spread sheets. These were uploaded as initial data bases for plants and birds to the website and these can be improved/updated as species are identified. It was noted that for animals, birds and insects recording sightings was a very inexact science but was the best baseline available.
- 2.A Quiz organised by John Bland for the benefit of Jim’s Field (ACL) raised over £600 for the charity from sales of the quiz form internationally.
3. The information board near the entrance was maintained and waterproofed and the graphic improved by printing resistant to UV damage.
- 4.There had been a problem with maintaining trees due to drought but David Brailsford supplied a water bowser for the field on long term loan.
5. A bid for trees was made to Derbyshire County Council under the Local Authority Tree Fund initiative but this was halted because of changes to Government policy and Local Authority funding problems. Other sources of trees were explored.
6. Wildflower planting including heather continued in a number of plots.
