March **2012** **TAR** 2 **Section C Objectives and activities** The objectives of The Errol McKellar Foundation are the advancement of health and the saving of lives by creating greater awareness of the dangers and issues of prostate cancer amongst men in England and Wales. The charity promotes the need for regular health checks and prostate cancer PSA testing, particularly, but not exclusively, for men over the age of 45. Prostate cancer remains one of the most significant health risks facing men in the UK. Statistics indicate that 1 in 8 men will develop prostate cancer, rising to 1 in 4 among men from Black African and Caribbean backgrounds. The charity aims especially, but not exclusively, to reach men from ethnically diverse communities by: - Delivering educational talks led by prostate cancer survivors, sharing lived experiences and raising awareness. - Encouraging men to “MOT Yourself” by taking responsibility for their health and seeking regular GP check-ups and PSA testing. **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** - Partnering with corporate organisations to deliver workplace awareness sessions. - Engaging with community organisations including faith groups, sports clubs, prisons, and homeless organisations to ensure equitable access to information. - Reaching men who may otherwise be unaware of prostate cancer risks. - Working with ambassadors, media and social media platforms to extend the charity’s reach. ## **Public Benefit Statement** The Trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty under Section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the guidance published by the Charity Commission on public benefit. The charity’s activities are carried out for the public benefit by increasing awareness, encouraging early detection, and supporting men to take proactive steps towards managing their health, particularly in relation to prostate cancer. March **2012** **TAR** 3 We have continued our Sit & Talk (Prostate Cancer) on the last Saturday in most months in south London at Jamaica National Bank in Brixton. JN Bank Ltd have supported the charity by providing us with the use of their community space for our sessions. In addition, we have started our Sit & Talk Prostate Cancer Support in Edmonton, North London. The New Testament Church of God in Edmonton have again donated their community space in Edmonton to host our support groups, usually held on the first Friday of most months. The Foundation has been approached by several larger organisations to deliver presentations to their workforce thus continually raising the awareness of prostate cancer and prostate related issues. The charity continues to raise awareness via appearances on community radio, local media, televisions and presentations at businesses and events and webinars. **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** During the year, The Errol McKellar Foundation continued to deliver a wide range of activities aligned with its charitable objectives: - **Sit & Talk Prostate Cancer Support Groups** Regular sessions continued in South London, held on the last Saturday of most months at Jamaica National Bank in Brixton, whose ongoing support has been invaluable in providing community space. Additional support groups have been established in Edmonton (North London). The New Testament Church of God in Edmonton has generously continued to provide its venue, enabling monthly sessions typically held on a Friday evening. - **Community Outreach and Awareness** The Foundation has actively engaged with communities across England and Wales, delivering presentations and awareness sessions at: - Corporate organisations nationwide - Construction and building sites - Airports and transport hubs including national rail and bus stations These engagements are vital in reaching men who may not otherwise engage with traditional healthcare settings. - **Media and Communications** Awareness has been further amplified through appearances on community radio, local media, television, webinars, and digital platforms. ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** March **2012** **TAR** 4 The Foundation continues to rely heavily on the dedication and commitment of its volunteers, whose contributions are invaluable in delivering events, supporting outreach activities, and engaging with communities.
