## **CHAIRMAN’S ADDRESS 25th July 2025**

## **Presented by Mr Jim Robinson**

It is with great sadness that we have lost Ken, who died earlier this year he will be greatly missed by all of us..

A CIO is governed by the charity trustees, but with a wide membership of volunteers and other members who will have the right to vote at future AGMs and similar meetings. Under charity law all members of the CIO have a duty to support its charitable aims when taking decisions in relation to the CIO.

On a closing note

CREST Cancer Support is run by inspirational, highly committed volunteers, who are easily accessible to all our members and other volunteers. We still continue to have an open door policy which has worked well. We develop and motivate all our volunteers and members. We must have a person centred approach to volunteering and match their expectations to the work they do for CREST Cancer Support.

We must always realise that we are a voluntary organisation and count on volunteers heavily to run the charity. We must all make a conscious effort to inform everyone that CREST Cancer Support is run solely by volunteers. We must also continue to recruit volunteers and retain them and the Complementary Therapists we need to support our work.

## **Secretarys Report**

**Referrals to CREST Cancer Support CIO** have increased over the last two years as we have had more exposure in the local area. Many who are referred to us have multiple requirements, not just support for being affected by cancer. One patient or carer might require counselling, financial support information and the help of another charity. Having these other local charities gives us a great support network. Each referral is unique in itself and each referral brings its own challenges for CREST Cancer Support CIO to provide the relevant tailored services. Members high expectations on help and support of them from us.

**We supply the following services via our therapists and nurses Counselling Service members referred to multiple visits Shepperton Wigs subsidy for wig/head covering MLD with members with multiple visits Complementary Therapy with multiple visits Indian Head with multiple visits Mindfulness withmultiple visits Osteopathy with multiple visits Acupuncture with multiple visits Podiatry with multiple visits Reiki with multiple visits Reflexology with multiple visits Shibashi with multiple visits Signposting to other organisations which could also mean to more than one organisation**

CREST has changed greatly due to Covid, in the way we work and communicate with our membership (Cancer Patients and Carers plus interested parties.)

Our referrals from the hospitals and Gps have disproportionately increased in demand during and after Covid. MacMillan and other organisations have also been sending patients and carers to us as many NHS and GPs are not seeing people who it appears, will not or cannot provide services themselves. They also do not provide any funding to CREST to help cover the costs of treatments that the patients require. So we have been and still are the last line of defence for cancer patients. . We do not see anything returning to the “old Norm” and we believe the situation we have here at CREST will be our “new norm”. If we were not here then these people would not get the treatments and support they so desperately need and they would have no where else to go.

CREST is run entirely by unpaid volunteer and the best news is that we have moved offices which is wonderfull every on has their own workstation Joan Nicholson CREST Secretary

## **REPORT FROM THE TREASURER**

"This year income has slightly exceeded expenses for the second year in a row. This has helped boost our reserves which we have had to dip into, on previous years. The majority of our income is from Local Government Grants and other donations. Grants are usually restricted funds, primarily for therapies and counselling while other donations are ususally added to general funds.

Our financial statements are prepared in accordance with the Charity Commission's guidelines and CREST Cancer Support CIO's governing documents.

We would like to thank Nicholas Dent was has acted as Independent Examiner for the annual accounts."
