Objectives and Activities

In brief the purposes of the charity as set out in the governing document are

The prevention or relief of poverty and support for those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage, within a Christian ethos. To further or benefit the residents of Wythenshawe and the neighbourhood, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the said residents and the local authorities, voluntary

and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life of the residents, within a Christian ethos.

To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society, within a Christian ethos.

Public beneft

Our support activities are centred on developing and strengthening local communities in their efforts to address their individual and wider community needs, including responding to poverty. The charity helps build the capacity of groups and individuals and the activities outlined in this report demonstrate the public benefit. This is in line with Charity Commission guidance on public benefit

Grant making

None this year Contribution of volunteers

Volunteers are integral to all of our activities. Our volunteer base has remained steady. In recognition of the importance of volunteers we amended our job description for our employee to “Community and Volunteer Development Worker” (CVDW)

Achievements and Performance and future plans

Our chief work in a year with Covid was to serve families with our Breakfast Packs (formerly Breakfast Clubs). In 2021 we organised six Packs to coincide with the school holidays. Each Pack consisted of providing a plentiful supply - three or four good bags - of vital food staples for families, principally those whose children enjoyed free school breakfasts and meals, the better to alleviate the pressure on families while schools were off and the food provision unavailable.

In 2021 we were able to commence two of the former Places of Welcome at St Luke’s and St Richard’s, while St Martin’s relaunched its coffee morning. At this point we looked at reviving William Temple Place of Welcome, but decided that winter and the onset of flu militated against meeting at William Temple Church. We took the opportunity At the end of 2021, especially without a CVDW in post, it was clear that William Temple POW would only be possible with a high and consistent level of volunteering.

We have continued to deliver support throughout 2020.

Financial Review

A summary of the accounts is provided alongside the Independent Examiner Report. Expenditure is less than forecast due to there being no worker in post for the final quarter of the year.
