The main benefits undertaken for public are provision of Message in a Bottle which is an aid to help people remain in their own homes and assist the local emergency services when called out. Collaborated with the local Community Voluntary Services Tendring to promote volunteering and assisting others. Donated food and monies to the local foodbanks to allow them to provide additional meals during the lockdown period. Worked with organisations supplying meals to the lonely, vulnerable, and homeless. Over many years the local Rotary Club have provided meals for the elderly of Clacton but unfortunately due to Covid causing an inability to raise the necessary fund and an aging membership they felt unable to do this at Christmas 2021. The Lions collaborating with the Veterans Breakfast Club and a local church provided the necessary funds to allow this we theyable to offer meals to elderlyand lonelyin |
| the Tendring area. This required the purchase of the food, cooking of the meals and recruitment of volunteer drivers to deliver them. We also provided each meal recipient with a ‘goody bag’ containing chocolate and a small gift etc.’ |

| Policy on grant making | Para 1.38 | We have a clear grant making policy and members always follow that when considering bids for funds or assistance whist at the same time considering the need for public benefit. However, given that most of the available funds are raised within the local community, those candidates that are local are given special consideration. Using the former as a guiding principle the following are examples of Areas adopted for support: Local charities– youth groups, groups working with the elderly, residential and nursing homes, individual appeals. Youth and children’s organisations– sport related groups or individuals, scouting and guiding, youth club activities, young people undertaking overseas assignments. Community facilities– relief of hardship for individuals and families, village hall projects. |

Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | In total Clacton on Sea Lions (CIO) donated just over £16.500 to groups and individuals in the local community plus other local and national charities. This includes funds which were donated to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) to support its work in eradicating preventable blindness, the elimination of measles word wide and disaster relief such as was undertaken when there were natural disasters in Germany, Haiti and Tonga and the invasion of Ukraine . Any donations handed out by LCIF are used by members of Lions Clubs living locally and are therefore guaranteed to reach those who need help most. We continued to issue Message in a Bottle throughout the year and 1631 were issued. These bottles are stored in a central place in individuals’ homes such as the fridge and contain paperwork to show Illnesses, medication, and any other relevant information such as next of kin. The bottles are well known to the emergency services who find them especially useful and help to issue them on our behalf. They look for them when they attend a person’s home so they can have the necessary information to hand especially if the patient ins unconscious or cannot otherwise speak. Donations were also made to two local organisations supplying meals to those in need the first was a breakfast club for forces veterans in need of friendship and companionship and the second was for those who are homeless. The charity continued to pay for home-based physiotherapy for a young teenager with multiple physical problems to help her gain independence and mobility. This is ongoing We donated funds for 2 display cabinets to the local Clacton Historical Society so they could open their museum to the public. Worked with a local school in Clacton on Sea to distribute a large number parcels from their Harvest Festival to the needy in the local area. Due to the continued fallout from lockdown and Corona Virus coupled with steep increase in cost |
of living the local foodbanks like many others suffered a huge surge in demand for their services and found it difficult to cope with the demands placed on them. As a result, donations were therefore made to the 5 Food Banks that operate in the Tendring area as well as the Trusell Trust who have a separate scheme in the area. Substantial donations were made to the 3 local lifeboats Also supported was Tendring Elder Care which provides support parcels to the vulnerable elderly and a day centre for them to attend where they can meet others, and this helps relieve loneliness. A donation of £1,500 was made to the local Riding for the Disabled Group to help them continue and find new premises after their original one was no longer available to them. Donations were also made to the local Stroke Service who provide physiotherapy, encouragement to try and lead as normal a life as possible to those who have had a stroke and a meeting place for victims and their families. A donation was given to a local Primary School; to help in the setting up of a multi-sensory room for children suffering from disabilities and anxiety. Donations were made to a local group of youths to help purchase uniforms who are training as Cheerleaders and are looking to complete in local and national competitions. Additionally, a donation was made towards the purchase of communication equipment for a local youngster who is severely disabled and has profound difficulty communicating. In addition to the specific donations mention numerous donations were given to many groups and organisations such as the local Clacton Girl Guides, Sea Cadets, and East Anglian Children’s Hospice. Whenever possible donations to national charities are handed to the local branch for use in the Tendring area. However, on occasions donations and assistance are given nationally
i.e., collecting on behalf of the Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal. Provided a defibrillator and cabinet for public use on the outside of a local seafront hotel in collaboration with the owners who paid for the installation and ongoing electricity needed to run and charge the defibrillator .

where relevant about: |
|---|---|---|
| Achievements against objectives set |
Para 1.41 | No specific achievements set but the CIO looks to support the greatest number of local organisations/individuals as funds will allow. |
| Performance of fundraising activities against objectives set |
Para 1.41 | Whilst no fund-raising targets are set there is always an expectation that each year the Clacton on Sea Lions Club (CIO) will match or exceed the previous year’s income. We normally manage to achieve this and following lockdown, but we were able to start some limited fundraising in May 2021 which then increased though the financial year ending June 2022 which took us back to almost pre pandemic levels |
| Investment performance against objectives |
Para 1.41 | We do not undertake any investments other than having surplus funds in a higher interest 90 day savings account although returns from this have diminished due to the falls in interest rates. This will have no significant impact of the CIO or its abilityto conduct its work. |

Financial Review
| Financial Review | ||
|---|---|---|
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Para 1.21 | We managed to donate £16,754 during the year despite reduced income and the charity remains in a strong financial position and able to move forward in 2022/23. |
| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held |
Para 1.22 | The Clacton on Sea Lions (CIO) has a reserves policy which states that reserves will be at £3000 or 10% of the available balance. These figures are chosen specifically to allow three years payments to be made to those organisations who currently receive annual donations to allow them to find other funding sources to offset the loss of income from Clacton on Sea Lions should the club cease to exist. It will increase as any additional organisations are added to the annual donation list. |

| The charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising) |
Para 1.47 | Collection of monies from the public for either general charitable use or specific causes i.e., MacMillan Coffee Morning where all funds raised are handed over to the specific charity. The Lions charity has a good name locally and requests to members of the public when collecting for funds are well received by the public who often seek us out in preference to others. We also have a particularly good working relationship with the local supermarkets who again are always happy to allow us space for collection on funds. |
|---|---|---|
| Investment policy and objectives including any social investment policy adopted |
Para 1.46 | We do not undertake any investments as our income is not enough to justify this. However, any surplus funds are deposited in a higher in interest 90-day account to try and generate a small additional income. |
| A description of the principal risks facing the charity |
Para 1.46 | An ageing membership makes it more difficult to ensure enough people are available to undertake collections to raise money. Also, along with other Charities we are finding that Covid 19 lockdown and rising cost of living is making people reluctant to volunteer or join groups such as Clacton on Sea Lions (CIO). Although we do have funds available in our 90- day deposit account and these will be used, if necessary, to ensure we are able to meet any demands we are reluctant to transfer more than necessary to allow these to be available for as long as possible. The £3,000 reserve is held within this account so funds will never be allowed to dropbelow that figure. |
| Other | All charitable funds raised from the public and other sources are used for the benefit of others. All administration costs/fees come from members annual subscriptions and other payments from members such as fines at meetings for silly comments and are keep totally separate from Charitable funds in their own account. |
