YLA is a company limlted by guarantee governed by its memorandurn and articles of association
dated 16 Aprll 2018 as amended by special re501ution registered at Companies House on 21
December 2018. The company registered as a charity with the Charlty Commlssion in England &
Wales ICCEWI on 3 January 2019 under the charity numbèr 1181399.
The Board of Trustees meet quarterty to review the activities and financial position of the charlty. All
governance decision5 are made by the Trustees. The day to day work of the charity is undertaken bv
the rnanagement team who work closèly with the Trustees.
The charity was formerly named The Westside Young Leaders Academy Ltd before changing 115
name via members, special resolution on 14 December 2022 (presented at Companies Plouse on 15
December 20221 to Youn8 LeadÈrs Atademy Ltd.

Our key artivities this year included=
We introduced a maths GCSE revision programme to support Year 11 students taking GC5E maths exam
We have provided In-house counsellors for students dealin8 Wlth difficult and challenging situations.
Facilltated a number of career inslghts days in partnership with a nurnber of employers that helped to raise aspir3tions and
exposed the young leaders to Positive rtsle models.
We facilitated several healthy eating workshops for the youn8 leaders and their parent5. The programmes demonstrated
howyou tan eat healthy on a budget.
Our facilitators dellvered a positive relationship programme. Positive relationship training help5 the young people sell-
worth and equlps them wlth the essential skills and support they need to thrive in all areas of their lives.
- The young leaders took part in a sports daywith participants of other supplementary schools. Further enhancln8 their
teamwork skills, resilience and deterrnination.

We held our first international residential in the Gambla thls year. Nineteen students visited local schools and dellvered
presentations to Garnbian students and their teachers. The residentials helped the students to further develop their
leadership sk1115 and it helped to boost thelr confidence.
- The youn8 leader5 helped to raise money via our Leaders SeNe pro8ramrne to support the educatlon of Gamblan students.

The trustees continually carry out an analy51s of the r15￿ faced by the organisation. Mafror risks are fomially considered by
the Trustee5 during Board meetin8s and preventative action is undertaken where required.

The trustees have examined the charity's ￿quirementS in the light of the main risks to the organisation. It has established

Basis of accountlng
The financial statement5 have been prepared under the historical c05t convention and in accordance with
UK Generally Accepted Accountlng Practlce, the Companles Art 2006 and "The Flnanclal Reportln£ Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" I'FRS 102.1 and"AccountinE and Reporting by Charitles.. the
Statement of Recommended Practice" for charitie5 applying FR51021"SORP"l. The charity is a Public Benefit
Entitv as dèfined bv FRS 102.
The financial statements are prepared in sterlin& which is the functional currency of the company.
Monetary amounts in these financlal statements are rounded to the nearest £.
The financial statements have been prepared on the hlstorical cost convention. The principal accounting
policles adopted are set out below.
Golng concern
The financlal statements have been prepared on a going concern basi5. When con5iderin8 the
approprlateness of the going concern basis the trustees have given cons&derHtion to projetted finantial
performan￿ and p051tion for a period of twelve months from the date of signature of these flnancial
statements.
Cash flow statement
The financial statements do not include a cash flow statement because the charity. as a small reporting
entity. is exempt from the requirement to prepare such a statement under FRS 102.
Income
Incomels recogn15ed in the perlod In whlch the charity is entitled to re￿Ipt the amount can be measured
with reasonable certainty. Income 15 deferred only when the charity has to fulfil condition5 before bècoming
entitled to it or where the donor or funder has specifieil that the income is to be expended In a future

Charitable expenditure comprises both direct and indirect overhead expenditure on the charity's primary
tharitable purposes.

Unrestricted funds represent those monSe5 which may be used towards meeting the charitable objectives of
the charitable company at the dlscretion of the trustees. The restricted funds are monies raised for, and
