GLOUCESTERSHIRE PUJA AND CULTURAL ASSOCIATION

Introduction

During the financial year 2023–2024, the charity formerly known as Bristol Puja Committee (BPC) underwent a formal transformation and was renamed Gloucestershire Puja and Cultural Association (GPCA) on 18 January 2024 , as recorded by the Charity Commission.

This change reflects the trustees’ desire to reposition the charity within the Gloucestershire region, broaden its cultural and community engagement, and revive its activities following an extended dormant period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and relocation of key personnel.

To foster a harmonious society through the promotion of Hindu cultural and religious values, and by supporting individuals and communities during times of hardship.

Structure, Governance and Management

• GPCA is governed by a board of trustees and supported by volunteers from the local community. It is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), operating under its constitution.

• During the reporting period, the trustees initiated a governance refresh, which included relocating the charity’s registered office from Bristol to Gloucestershire, in line with the trustees’ desire to reposition the charity regionally adopting a new name, rebuilding community outreach, and expanding its leadership team.

• These trustees contributed to the charity’s strategic transformation, rebranding, and initial event

• delivery during the reporting year.

Following the financial year-end, several new trustees were appointed to further strengthen GPCA’s governance and capacity. These will be formally reflected in the 2024–25 annual report.

Objectives and Activities

The charity outlined a renewed programme of Hindu religious and cultural events for the year, aiming to revitalise community participation and promote its core values.

Planned events for the year included:

• Sarbojonin Durgotsav

• Kojagori MahaLakshmi Puja

• Saraswati Puja

• Rabindra Nazrul Jayanti

• Other approved cultural and religious gatherings

Achievements and Performance

While GPCA planned a full calendar of events, only Pithe Puli Utshav and Rabindra Nazrul Jayanti were organised prior to 1 August 2024. Other events — including Sarbojonin Durgotsav and Lakshmi Puja — were delivered after the financial year-end and will be reported in the 2024–25 annual report.

Additional achievements include:

• Reinstatement of financial operations with a new charity bank account

• Launch of GPCA’s website and official communications

• Recruitment of five new trustees to strengthen governance

• Initial steps toward building community outreach and volunteer participation

Financial Review

During the reporting year, the charity reinitiated financial activities after a dormant period. A new

account was opened with The Co-operative Bank, replacing the previously closed HSBC account.

Receipts & Payments accounts were prepared separately using Form CC16a , in line with Charity Commission guidelines for small CIOs.

Summary:

Income & Expenditure Overview

• Total Income: £6,157

(from donations, subscriptions, and sponsorships)

• Total Expenditure: £2,273

(covering idol purchase, cultural event costs, hall hire, and website hosting)

• Closing Cash Balance: £3,884

As of the reporting date, GPCA held total cash funds of £3,884 , along with a ceremonial asset (idol – at cost) valued at £1,322 .

The charity operated solely with unrestricted funds, and there is no formal reserves policy currently in place. There were no restricted or endowment funds, liabilities, investments, or other monetary assets.

The trustees confirm exemption from audit under Section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 and acknowledge responsibility for compliance with applicable accounting and reporting standards.
