CHAIRMANS REPORT APRIL 6/4/22- 5/4/23 THE HILL 112 MEMORIAL FOUNDATION
The year from April 2022 to April 2023 has been busy for the Hill 112 Memorial Foundation, being very productive in attending shows and events.
We started the year off with the premiere of our documentary A Canterbury Tale, produced and directed by well known film documentary maker Mr Peter Williams, in the Great Hall at Kent College, Canterbury.
The documentary contains original interviews from veterans who fought on Hill 112 during the Normandy Campaign, three months from June to August in 1944. This was against two of the crack SS Tank Divisions which killed over 7000 of our men.
We have received wonderful reviews and our “question and answer” section after the documentary, with Peter Williams and myself was well received with encouraging compliments.
From the premiere we then purchased DVDs of the documentary, to sell on our website www.thehill112.com and for all the other military shows and promotional shows, we attend as a visitor and for our yearly show. We will venture later to buying memory sticks as they are being requested.
We also purchased a small number of merchandised clothing, T shirts, Caps and Woolly Hats, with the Hill 112 logo, which we also produced with the help of the
suppler. We again sell them within our Hill 112 gazebo at different military or country shows and is for sell on our website.
We also have an initiative with our personal plaques made of wrought iron and has a tree stake attached, to enable them to be placed in front of each tree. They are designed with the name of the veteran, their rank and small message. They are for all veterans who died on Hill 112 or surrounding areas during ‘44 or since returning home.
We have now achieved 14 so a long way to go for the 112 trees but something to aim for.
Our Military Festival and Country Fair show in August 2023 was again I am very pleased to say, a great success, with a profit of just over £3000. Betteshanger Country Park host the show for us very well and the landscape invites very well a Military and Country Show. We expanded on the Country Fair side with tractor rides, very old cheese maker, a blacksmith, and several other items. We hope to expand this side for the 2023 show.
We received during the year various donations from people who find our website or people who to get to hear of us. Mr Fred Ross, Trustee throughout the year gives talks within the Rotary or Free Masonry Fraternity, selling Alberts book, the DVD’s and merchandise. He shows a small video of Albert explaining about the battle and gives a talk on the battle. He is steadily busy throughout the year with these talks and receives a donation anything from £50 to £150.
At the end of February beginning of March we travelled to Edinburgh for a Scottish premiere of our documentary, which was very well received by the Scottish contingent.
They were delighted with the documentary, purchasing several DVDs, books and merchandise. We came away from Scotland with lovely friends and wonderful supporters for Hill 112.
We go into 2023 with attending many other military shows and selling merchandise that we raise funds for improving the Hill 112 whilst also talking and sharing our knowledge of the horrendous battle.
I am as the Chairman very pleased we have worked very hard to share the history of Hill 112 and the need to always remember the veterans who lost their lives for us today.
ANNETTE OLIVER CHAIRMAN.
