East Devon Riding for the Disabled Associaton Group
- Treasurers Report for 2024 25
At the end of the financial year 2024-25 for East Devon (RDA) Group the accounts showed a gain of income over expenditure of £19,421.59 bringing the total assets of the Group to £30,733.87.
This is the first time in many years that we have actually increased our bank balance. Income from donations was the major reason. The unexpected but most gratefully received legacies of £10,000 from the late Frank Jones and £5,000 from the estate of the late Lorinda Perry (one of our Thursday riders). These donations together with many other grants & donations have ensured the Group is now on a sure footing. The other donations included £1,080 from the Norman Family Trust, £1080 from Lord Clinton Charitable Trust, £2,000 from Phyllis Johnson (the lovely 90 year old lady from Seaton who rode Seamus), £2,000 from HdHWills, £1,000 from David Gibbons Trust & £844 from St James Place. Many of the Trust donations are for specific use and I would like to thank Jan Portlock for all her hard work in sourcing and completing the applications for these grants. Katya, one of our volunteers completed a half marathon and raised £525 & Sally Hall (Seren’s mother) completed an endurance run and raised £400 for East Devon RDA taking our total donations for the year to an amazing £24,569.00.
Fund raising also increased. The Honiton Show total was slightly down at £569.00 but Helene and Jan have been adding second-hand tack & equipment including saddles on Facebook which has brought in more funds. The Christmas Carol Celebration was again a success with Jan organising a raffle which raised £276 thanks to the very generous donations of items for the hampers from the volunteers.
Our main expense continues to be the hire of horses for the lessons totalling £6,879.00 of which some is covered by the riders’ payments (£3654.00). David at Hitts Barton has requested a meeting with Paul, our Chair & myself regarding the fees as the cost of horse feed/ wages for the stable staff & costs in general have increased significantly over the past two years when we signed the last agreement. We continue to pay farrier fees, vet fees & flu vaccinations for Blue Jack, Seamus and May. Seamus needed some major teeth treatment which cost nearly £600.
Other expenditure includes payments such as RDA Membership & Insurance, DBS certification for volunteers, Instructor’s travel costs, more hats for the new riders, Honiton Show fees, storage of second-hand equipment and the new mounting block (cost £690).
The Group is in an enviable position of having sufficient funds to continue to run. As mentioned several of the charitable grants were made for specific purchases, the main one being to purchase a new horse. Jan has spent many hours and effort trying to find a suitable mount as yet to no avail. She has made contact with several dealers and is looking to put out an advert on Facebook soon to see if a suitable pony can be found.
The Group has had a very successful year with new riders and many more on the waiting list. I would like to thank Helene, our coach, for her enthusiasm and support. A huge thank you must also go to all the volunteers at riding sessions, at shows and events. We would not be able to operate and continue our growth without the generous time, help and support they give.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of East Devon Riding For The Disabled Association Group
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the East Devon Riding For The Disabled Association Group (the Trust) for the year ended 31 March 2025.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner’s statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or

the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
