Objectives and Activities
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document |
Para 1.17 | We want to see a future in which older people feel less isolated and lonely, thanks to the companionship of dogs and intergenerational friendships. Since dog ownership is not possible for everyone, we provide a local befriending scheme, in five south London boroughs, which pairs up volunteers and their dogs with older people in their area, to connect over a walk and talk. |
| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Para 1.17 and 1.19 |
Since slowly emerging out of the covid-19 pandemic, volunteer-run small charity, CareDogs, was able to successfully deliver its pilot project with its first six pairs of volunteers, their dogs and six befriendee clients. This saw one of our volunteers (and their dogs) visit our clients once a week to build community connections for all involved. One of CareDogs' clients, Colin, says: ‘I used to drive everywhere before, but meeting Fiona and Ellie every week has been so good for me, to have a walk and a talk. I was lost after my wife Jo died unexpectedly last year... Having these walks every week have helped me regain structure - and I remember my love of walking! I now walk a lot more and feel so much better for it.’ |
| Statement confirming | Para 1.18 | In planning our activities for the year, we kept in |
whether the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit
mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit at our trustee meetings.
