Chair’s Report: January 2025

Dear all,

2024 has been an incredible year for TACTYC! It began with our extraordinary AGM where we passed the resolutions that have enabled us to make such enormous progress. At the meeting, we also appointed six dynamic new trustees: Eleanor Milligan, Stella Smith, Joelle Feudjo-Maneze, Hannah Foster,

Sue Allingham and Karen Vincent. These trustees are now coming up for election and, while they stand uncontested, we hope you will show your support by officially electing them using the following link : htps://forms.ofce.com/e/tMxXif7iGR

What followed shortly after was the launch of our manifesto which we look forward to presenting at the House of Lords in January. If you are yet to do so, please do share the manifesto with your MP and invite them along to the Cholmondeley terrace from 3:30-5pm on Tuesday 21[st] January to the ‘Education: Insights for Policy from Practice’ conference. We also responded to several calls for evidence where we were able to advocate for young children and those who work with them.

Our next job was to refresh and revamp our website to make it easier for you to find information. We hope you are enjoying the new look website and would welcome feedback.

Our journal continues to lead the way in celebrating sector specific research. We also shared research through our webinars and are working on making recordings available to members in the members’ area on our new website. 2024 also saw the launch of our new blog series which you can access through the website or on LinkedIn. If you would like to contribute a blog on play, a reflection or occasional paper, please do get in touch.

The highlight of 2024 for TACTYC was our conference at Conference Aston in November. Over 70 people attended what was a real celebration of the resilience of the Early Years profession and the dedication and commitment of those who are ‘Together And Committed To Young Children’. If you weren’t able to join us, do take a moment to view the conference photos on our website, which give a feel for the energy of the day, and we hope you will come along next year.

Plans are already well underway for 2025. At the end of our conference, we announced next year’s theme: ‘Children and adults playing together in the digital world’. TACTYC 2025 will take place on the 15[th] of November at Conference Aston and booking will open shortly, along with the call for papers.

With the first three webinars of the year advertised on our website too, we look forward to continuing to inform, advocate and lobby on behalf of children and those who work with them.

We thank you all for your continued support and look forward to seeing you at our AGM.

Best wishes,

Viki Veale (Chair)

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF TACTYC

I report on the accounts for the year ended April 2024.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner's report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a "true and fair view" and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner's statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements:

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act: and

  3. to prepare accounts with accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting have not been met; or

  4. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts reached.
