## **The Javan Coker Foundation (1181275) is registered with the Charity Commission in England & Wales.**
**Our mission is "to empower children, and young people with disabilities and special educational or additional needs (SEND), and their families, to reach their full potential".**
## **Our Objects include:**
1. To relieve children and young adults with disability and special needs whilst also providing support to their families, friends and/or carers.
2. To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing the social exclusion of people who suffer from learning difficulties and/or a disability.
Due to our collective diligence, the foundation has gained a very loyal band of wellwishers and organizations that continue to partner and collaborate with the Javan Coker Foundation brand, and this last financial year was no exception.
## PART ONE: WHAT WE OFFER
## **IN-HOUSE PROGRAMS & EVENTS**
- **SAFE SPACE FOR SEND:** This program is aimed at persons between the ages of 2 and 18; and up to 25 years of age for persons with SEND. The program delivers a series of enriching activities designed to stimulate, educate and engage participants with a view to improving their health and wellbeing, social inclusion and mental health.
- **SEND SIBLINGS CARE:** This program is aimed at siblings of persons with SEND between the ages of 6 and 18. The program was created based on feedback from participants in the SAFE SPACE FOR SEND program, who expressed that their siblings would benefit from a similar program. As with the SAFE SPACE FOR SEND program, it delivers a series of enriching activities designed to stimulate, educate and engage participants with a view to improving their health and wellbeing, social inclusion and mental health.
- **BUILDING CONFIDENCE SERIES:** This program caters for people of all ages and abilities with a view to providing enriching activities that provide opportunities to develop new skills or knowledge, to consolidate existing skills and knowledge, and ultimately, to try out new experiences that promote aspirational thinking.
- **Ladies Breakfast and Chat:** These weekly programs for mums are impactful sessions to 1. Reduce social isolation. 2. Improve health and wellbeing. 3. Promote positive mental Health.
- **Dads’ Space:** Platform that gives dads and dads-to-be, a FREE TO ACCESS curated event, where they meet other dads, talk to one another, sharing experiences, anxieties and very important that they get help from their peers, as well as professional.
- **Time With Mama:** Weekly sessions to support and promote positive emotional and spiritual growth, mental and social health a nd well-being, reduce isolation and promote social inclusion.
- **DAY TRIPS: We arrange day trips to the seaside, amusement parks and tourist attractions like London Zoo**
- **Advice and information:** Advocacy, Education, health, training, housing, welfare/benefit, appeals, signposting, referrals individual and family grant applications for white goods/ family Fund/Children-in Need.
- **Workshops & Conferences:** Health and well-being, Ladies together conference, Direct Payments, finance, Safeguarding and Parenting.

## **THIRD-PARTY PROGRAMS & EVENTS**
- We are trusted by some key funders to help them plan, promote and manage their events at different times during the year. Recent successes include the Holiday and Fun (HAF) Easter and Summer programs, which we are participating in for the third year in a row.
- **Distribution:** We provide and also support supermarkets with the distribution of food essentials, hygiene, and household items to people living in the communities we serve.

## PART THREE: FUNDING
Without funding we would not have been able to run the programs and give the support we offer every year. We secured funding to support our services from:
1. The Borough of Bexley
2. The Royal borough of Greenwich
3. London Community Fund
4. Jack Petchey
5. Peabody
6. Magic Grants – Local giving
## PART FOUR: VOLUNTEERS & STAFFING
This financial year we are fortunate to have increased our pool of volunteers bringing the total t o 127 (Twenty-seven).
## PART FIVE: CHALLENGES
- Funding to support the administration of our work. Many funders provide funds for specific projects, so we have to also focus on raising funds to facilitate the running of the office, buying items like stationary, finding and paying volunteers, maintaining our website, and paying insurances and other professional fees, such as accountants.
- Cost of living has been impacted by the recent pandemic and inflation has risen, causing challenges for all organisations, including our own.
- Welfare support to people in our communities as everyone cuts back on the support they offer due to the economic challenges.
- Legal services to support the issues faced by service users in the communities we serve, which may range from housing issues to immigrations problems.
## PART SIX: HIGHLIGHTS
**We have supported children, young people and adults with disabilities and special needs, their siblings and support networks, with needed support, guidance and signposting. We continue to work with other partners including public health, the local councils and community groups.**

## **Statement of Trustees' responsibilities**
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the report and accounts in accordance with applicable law and regulations.
Charity law requires the Trustees to prepare accounts for each financial year. Under that law, the Trustees have elected to prepare the accounts in accordance with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (United Kingdom Accounting Standards and applicable law). Under Charity law the Trustees must not approve the accounts unless they are satisfied that they give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of the profit or loss of the Charity for that period. In preparing these accounts, the Trustees are required to:
- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
- make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
- prepare the accounts on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Charity will continue in business.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the Charity's transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

This report has been prepared in accordance with the special provisions relating to small companies within Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006.

For the year ending 30 September 2023 the Charity was entitled to exemption from audit under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 and charity law relating to small companies. The members have not required the Charity to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.
The Trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.
These accounts have been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies subject to the small companies' regime and in accordance with the provisions of FRS 102 Section 1A - Small Entities.

## **1 Statutory information**
THE JAVAN COKER FOUNDATION is a Charity, registered in England and Wales, registration number 1181275. The registered office is 47 Abbey Grove , Abbeywood , LONDON, SE2 9EU, UK.
## **2 Compliance with accounting standards**
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of FRS 102 Section 1A Small Entities and charity law. There were no material departures from that standard.
## **3 Accounting policies**
The principal accounting policies adopted in the preparation of the financial statements are set out below and have remained unchanged from the previous year, and also have been consistently applied within the same accounts.
## _**Basis of preparation**_
The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention as modified by the revaluation of certain fixed assets.
## _**Presentation currency**_
The accounts are presented in £ sterling.
## _**Turnover**_
Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, excluding discounts, rebates, value added tax and other sales taxes. Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when goods have been delivered to customers such that risks and rewards of ownership have transferred to them. Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs.
## _**Government grants**_
Government grants in relation to tangible fixed assets are credited to profit and loss account over the useful lives of the related assets, whereas those in relation to expenditure are credited when the expenditure is charged to profit and loss.
## _**Grants and donations**_
Grants and donations are only included in the SoFA when the general income recognition criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP).
In the case of performance related grants, income must only be recognised to the extent that the charity has provided the specified goods or services as entitlement to the grant only occurs when the performance related conditions are met (5.16 FRS 102 SORP).

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 30 September 2023 **Responsibilities and** As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the **basis of report** accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
**Independent** I am qualified to undertake the examination by being a part qualified **examiner's statement** member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
