## **CHAIR’S ANNUAL REPORT** 

Whenever I write this report it always surprises me what we have achieved, but this year we have made amazing leaps towards getting Elizabeth out into the wider world. 

On International Women’s Day we held our best ever event. We took the Masonic Hall and held an afternoon tea with a very special speaker, Katherine Connolly who is an author and academic of high renown. She was fabulous and everyone had a great time. 

I have given talks locally to Brownies, Rangers and women’s groups and Biddulph, Kidsgrove and Newcastle Libraries. All these were enthusiastically received, and Newcastle followed their talk with a visit to Congleton to meet Our Elizabeth in person. I was able to meet them, on a hot day in August, and take them on our Heritage Trail. It’s always great to meet visitors and show off our achievements so it was a memorable day. 

In September we provided an exhibition and ten copies of my book, to Salford Libraries and it has been visiting libraries in Salford ever since. At present it is in Worsley Village Hall, which is in the village where Elizabeth spent her childhood. I am told she is enjoying herself very much. 

In March we provided a similar exhibition for Staffordshire Moorlands, and that will be doing a tour of their libraries for the rest of this year. At the moment I believe she is in Biddulph. 

Looking forward, I am booked to give a talk in Leigh Library in September, and I will be providing an exhibition for the Wigan and Leigh Library Service so the people of Wigan and Leigh can learn all about Elizabeth and her amazing achievements. 

We are also looking at ways to work with the National Library to get Elizabeth’s archive of letters digitised so we can read them properly and we have made tentative steps towards getting a permanent exhibition in Congleton. We may need to do some major fundraising to achieve this – watch this space. 

We may also need to raise some funds as the information board next to the statue has been vandalised and needs replacing. We need to give this priority as once this sort of thing happens it can quickly escalate. 

All in all, a very busy year, bring on the next.
