**assistance to support people seeking**
**asylum, refugees resettling in Canterbury**
**and other displaced peoples to relieve**
**financial hardship, particularly resulting**
**from the COVID-19 pandemic. The**
**number of people requiring assistance**
**has increased due to people displaced by**
**the Afghanistan conflict and war in**
**Ukraine. CWR provided assistance to**
**Afghan families housed in bridging**
**hotels, including clothing, toiletries,**
**children’s games and activities. CWR has**
**provided financial aid for the purchase of**
**school uniforms, computer equipment to**
**access online learning and working, food**
**and other essentials. CWR has continued**
**some online English language support,**
**and re-started in-person language**
**support. CWR worked in partnership to**
**set up and run a new English class for**
**those who had progressed in their**
**English. The Welcome Café project also**|

All activities by CWR are carried out by
volunteers from the local community.

Contribution made by Helping in this way has provided many
volunteers hours of much valued support to the
beneficiaries. We believe engagement of
local volunteers contributes to greater
community cohesion. Community
engagement for the volunteers helps to
relieve isolation particularly during
pandemic lockdowns and thereafter.

## **Financial review**

Review of the charity’s Para 1.21 CWR has sufficient funds to cover
financial position at the end expenses of the first and second
of the period sponsored family and support of other
resettled families. Any surplus will be
used towards the sponsorship of another
family and to create and support
partnership community projects. CWR
has built more reserves and this will put
the charity in a good position to support
the increasing number of displaced
people in the Canterbury area, including
those displaced by the war in Ukraine.
