Aylesbury Vale Lions Club (CIO)
Annual Report Lions year 1[st] July 2023 – 30[th] June 2024
We continue to submit articles in Aylesbury Town Matters, although the year has proved to be difficult trying to reestablish the club following the pandemic.
The club President and Treasurer attended zone meetings where possible, both these officers are also District Officers where they attend meetings. All club members continued to collect spectacles from the 20 collection points throughout the Aylesbury/Thame area. The club recycled approximately 5000 spectacles during this Lion year. The club continued to receive a steady flow of requests for and hence distributed Message in a bottle and Message in a wallet to individuals and organisations requesting these items.
Organisations that benefitted from donations totalling approximately £3560 inc. District 105a Children’s Celebration, Aylesbury Town Mayor charity, Bedgrove Residents Association, Bucks Vision, Chiltern MS Centre, Wheelpower, Florence Nightingale Hospice, Carers Bucks, Aylesbury Homeless, Gearing Dogs, Riding for the Disabled Fairford Leys Vineyard
The following outline of the calendar of events reflects a mixture of service, welfare and fundraising opportunities with club members continually promoting the work of the local club as well as raising awareness about the wider role of the organisation globally.

May
Chiltern Hills Vintage Car Rally service activity selling tickets on the admission gate. The event organisers donated £250 to the club with grateful thanks for the support of the Lions volunteers.
During the year it has become apparent that the membership and therefore the involvement in the community is diminishing and at the end of the account year 12 members retired due to ill health or simply age.
The club will continue and the remaining two members with help and support from the Lions District will continue to rebuild the club and the first step with approval: of the Charity Commission and Lions International to change the name to Aylesbury Vale Lions Club (CIO) to properly reflect the area.
