## **Structure and Governance** 

The Charity was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on 17 December 2018, having been reconstituted from the previously unincorporated Charity number 209145. The Charity changed its name from the Egypt Diocesan Association (EDA) to Friends of the Anglican Province of Alexandria (FAPA) in June 2020. The Charity is governed by a constitution which places no maximum on the number of charity trustees that may be appointed. Membership is open to anyone who is interested in furthering the purposes of the Charity.

## **Report of the Trustees** 

The Trustees present the Annual Report and Financial Statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2025. 

## **Objects and Activities** 

The object of the Charity is to benefit the public by encouraging support through prayer, personal service and financial grants, in order to advance the Christian faith in the Episcopal/Anglican Province of Alexandria, to provide and maintain its church buildings and to enable public worship, pastoral care, outreach and witness, training and education, healthcare, relief of poverty and community development. 

The Province of Alexandria has four dioceses, Egypt, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, and Gambella. Under the overall leadership of Archbishop Samy Shehata, these dioceses are led respectively by Bishops Ashley Null, Martin Reakes-Williams, and Jeremiah Paul Koryom. 

## _**During this year, our principal activities included:**_ 

## Promoting Support and Interest in the Province 

During the year, Trustees met three times by Zoom to be updated on life and ministry in the Province, review our trustee group, membership and giving, and conduct other business. We were invited to be represented and attend online the afternoon open gathering with the JMECA Council and Provincial Bishops on 26 November at Westminster Abbey. 

## Communication with members and friends 

Two FAPA newsletters were published in 2025 and distributed to about 100 FAPA members and sister organisations who share similar interests in Anglican/Episcopal churches in the region. 

Praying for the Province 

Zoom prayer meetings, led by Chairman Mike, were held in January, March, September and November, each time offering afternoon and evening sessions. 

Exploring options to offer a Pilgrimage Tour to Egypt. 

We continue to commend extended study opportunities in Cairo, Alexandria and at Anafora Retreat Centre. This provides possibilities for study leave or sabbaticals in the Province to: 

- experience the living Christian faith and worship of Anglican/Episcopal congregations, and their ecumenical links with Coptic and other churches 

- explore ‘Interfaith’ through the Diocese's agencies and contacts at Al-Azhar University 

- discover the warm welcome and vibrant contemporary life, worship and ministry of the monasteries of the Egyptian desert 

- encounter the social justice and refugee ministries of the Diocese of Egypt 

- pursue individual research or participate in study at the Alexandria School of Theology 

We continue to review our role and possibilities of closer collaboration with other networks

## **Financial Review** 

The Charity received Unrestricted income of £7,020 from individuals, and £16,208 as restricted donations. A charity can claim Gift Aid of 25% of donations from individuals who pay tax and have signed a Gift Aid form. Income from donations and subscriptions include the Gift Aid the charity has claimed. The charity remitted £15,745 for the Province of Alexandria which comprised income donated for specific purposes of £9,895 and £5,850 from general donations remitted to be used at the discretion of the Archbishop. The charity also supported the expenditure for the Diocese of North Africa totalling £9,313 with donations specifically received for this purpose. 

The Charity is immensely thankful to all individual donors and partner church donors for their generous donations as this has enabled FAPA to make significant grants to support the activities of the Anglican Province of Alexandria. 

We believe the most significant risk is sustainability of donations. 

## **General Reserves** 

The Trustees consider that approximately £1,500 should be retained to meet future needs of the charity. At 31 December 2025 the level of unrestricted reserves was £2,583. The charity received a legacy of £1,000 at the end of the year and hence the level of unrestricted reserves at the year end was higher than anticipated.

**1** Friends of the Anglican Province of Alexandria is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered in England. 

**2 Basis of Accounts Preparation** The accounts are prepared on a cash basis with income being recognised when received and expenditure recorded when paid. Where applicable income includes Gift Aid claimed. 

**3 Charitable Funds** Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the charitable objectives. Restricted funds are subject to specific conditions by donors as to how they may be used. The grants made from such funds are set out in note 4.

## **Charity Number 1181201** 

**FOR YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025** as set out on pages 4 & 5 

## **Respective responsibilities of the Trustees and the Examiner** 

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011(the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. 

It is my responsibility to: 

- examine the Financial Statements under Section 145 of the Charities Act, 

- to follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act), and 

- 

to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. 

## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement** 

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the financial statements presented with those records. It also includes a consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements and seeking explanations form the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a “true and fair” view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. 

## **Independent Examiner’s Statement** 

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: 

(1)  which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirement: 

- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act. 

- to prepare accounts which accord with accounting records and comply with accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met; or 

(2)  to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the financial statements to be reached.
