## **Structure and Governance**
The Charity was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on 17 December 2018, having been reconstituted from the previously unincorporated Charity number 209145. The Charity changed its name from the Egypt Diocesan Association (EDA) to Friends of the Anglican Province of Alexandria (FAPA) in June 2020. The Charity is governed by a constitution which places no maximum on the number of charity trustees that may be appointed; membership is open to anyone who is interested in furthering the purposes of the Charity.

## **Report of the Trustees**
The Trustees present their annual report and financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2024
## **Objects and Activities**
The object of the Charity is to benefit the public by encouraging support with financial grants, prayer and personal service in order to advance the Christian faith in the Episcopal/Anglican Province of Alexandria - to provide and maintain its church buildings and to enable public worship, pastoral care, outreach and witness, training and education, healthcare, the relief of poverty and community development.
The Province of Alexandria contains four dioceses (Egypt, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, and Gambella) which are being established over a five-year transition period. Bishop Anthony Ball, Chair of The Jerusalem & Middle East Church Association, is tasked with establishing the legal and administrative arrangements for the three new dioceses of North Africa, Horn of Africa and Gambella. Diocesan Synods have been held in all four Dioceses during the year, and the Consecration of Bishops took place in Chad on 17 January: Venerable Jeremiah Paul Koryom – Gambella; Revd Canon Martin Reakes – Williams-The Horn of Africa; Bishop Anthony Ball – North Africa
Promoting Support and Interest in the Province The Trustees have met remotely by “zoom” to conduct business during the year; members were invited to attend the afternoon Open Gathering of the JMECA and Diocesan Bishops Meeting on 27 November at St Margaret’s Westminster .(in person or via Zoom).
The Pilgrimage Study Tour to Tunisia took place in April 2024. FAPA Deputy Charman, Richard Hibbert reported that 11 FAPA members/friends participated and found the experience hugely significant.
Extended Study Opportunities Trustee Christopher Andrews continues to promote an Extended Study Opportunities programme in Cairo, Alexandria and at Anafora Retreat Centre – an opportunity for persons exploring the possibilities of study leave or a sabbatical in the Province to:
- Experience the living Christian faith and worship of Anglican Episcopal congregations and ecumenical links with the Coptic and other churches;
- Explore ‘Interfaith’ through the Diocese's networks and contacts at Al-Azhar University, Cairo;
- Discover the warm welcome and vibrant contemporary life, worship and ministry of the monasteries of the Egyptian desert;
- Encounter the social justice ministry of the Diocese of Egypt;
- Pursue individual research or participate in a course of theological study at the Alexandria School of Theology.
FAPA Role Review Archbishop Samy has given support to a proposal that that the new Province might be better supported by an ‘amalgamation’ of FAPA and FACE with JMECA. FAPA Chairman will lead the consultation.
Communication. Three FAPA newsletters were published in 2024 and distributed widely to sister organisations and to about 100 FAPA members.
- The FAPA web site www.fapa egypt.org is the main vehicle for equipping and inspiring members to pray for the Province - a vital FAPA mission activity.

## **Financial Review**
The Charity received Unrestricted income of £5,356 from individuals, and £60,997 from individuals and two partner churches as restricted donations. A charity can claim Gift Aid of 25% of donations from individuals who pay tax and have signed a Gift Aid form. Income from donations and subscriptions include the Gift Aid the charity has claimed. The charity remitted £44,952 for the Province of Alexandria which comprised income donated for specific purposes of £40,360 and £4,850 from general donations remitted to be used at the discretion of the Archbishop. The charity also supported the expenditure for the Diocese of North Africa totalling £15,846 with donations specifically received for this purpose
The Charity is immensely thankful to all individual donors and partner church donors for their generous donations as this has enabled FAPA to make significant grants to support the activities of the Province of Alexandria.
The most significant risk is sustainability of donations.
## **Reserves**
The Trustees consider that approximately £1,500 should be retained to meet future needs of the charity. At 31 December 2024 the level of unrestricted reserves was £1,536.

**1** Friends of the Anglican Province of Alexandria is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered in England.
**2 Basis of Accounts Preparation** The accounts are prepared on a cash basis with income being recognised when received and expenditure recorded when paid. Where applicable income includes Gift Aid claimed.
**3 Charitable Funds** Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the charitable objectives. Restricted funds are subject to specific conditions by donors as to how they may be used. The grants made from such funds are set out in note 4.

## **FOR YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024** - set out on pages 4 and 5
## **Respective responsibilities of the Trustees and the Examiner**
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011(the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- Examine the Financial Statements under Section 145 of the Charities Act,
- To follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act), and
- To state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the financial statements presented with those records. It also includes a consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements and seeking explanations form the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a “true and fair” view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **Independent Examiner’s Statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
- (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirement:
- -to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act.
- -to prepare accounts which accord with accounting records and comply with accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met; or
- (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the financial statements to be reached.
