## **Structure and Governance**
The Charity was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on 17 December 2018, having been reconstituted from the previously unincorporated Charity number 209145. The Charity changed its name from the Egypt Diocesan Association (EDA) to Friends of the Anglican Province of Alexandria (FAPA) in June 2020.
The Charity is governed by a constitution which places no maximum on the number of charity trustees that may be appointed; membership is open to anyone who is interested in furthering the purposes of the Charity.

## **Report of the Trustees**
The Trustees present their annual report and financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2022.
## **Objects and Activities**
The object of the Charity, as defined in the constitution, is to benefit the public by encouraging support with financial grants, prayer and personal service in order to advance the Christian faith in the Episcopal/Anglican Province of Alexandria - to provide and maintain its church buildings and to enable public worship, pastoral care, outreach and witness, training and education, healthcare, the relief of poverty and community development.
The Province of Alexandria contains four dioceses: Egypt, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, and Gambella which are being established over a five-year transition period ending in June 2025. Assistant Bishop Anthony Ball, Chair of JMECA, is especially tasked with helping bring into reality personnel and structures to make viable the maturing of the three new dioceses of North Africa, Horn of Africa and Gambella by June 2025.
The Deputy Chair and Hon. Secretary were welcomed to the annual meeting of JMECA along with equivalent officers of FACE (Friends of the Anglican Church in Ethiopia) as part of our efforts to make the best contribution in support of the Province and emerging Dioceses.
## Promoting Support and Interest in the Province
A winter seminar programme was undertaken in January, February and March which included: ‘The Church in Ethiopia’ – history and challenges, ‘Anglicans in Egypt – future challenges’, and ‘Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations in the Developing Province.’ These were virtual (90 minute) sessions to an invited audience and involved a small panel of ‘experts’, some from overseas. About 60 persons from a variety of organisations expressed an interest in the seminars which were considered to be a success. It hoped to organise a further seminar programme in 2024.
The 2022 Annual Gathering was a virtual ‘zoom’ meeting – the AGM was preceded by a presentation by Archbishop Samy Shehata, Primate of the Province of Alexandria – his vision for the period 2023-2033. It is planned to hold a ‘hybrid’ Annual Gathering in St Margaret’s Church, Westminster in September 2023 now that Covid restrictions have eased. The AGM will be a virtual meeting in April.
A Pigrimage Study Tour to Tunisia was organised to take place in May 2023, but this has now been postponed until 2024. This will be a private tour for FAPA members and friends led by trustees Richard Hibbert and Andy Wheeler with a Tunisian guide.
Three FAPA Newsletter editions were produced (Easter, Autumn and Advent) and distributed widely to sister organisations in addition to the current FAPA membership (about 100).
The FAPA web site www.fapa-egypt.org is the main vehicle for equipping and inspiring members to pray for the Province - a vital FAPA mission activity.

## **Financial Review**
The Charity received Unrestricted income of £4,666 from individuals, and £26,167 from three partner churches and a charity and a few individual donors as restricted donations. A charity can claim Gift Aid of 25% of donations from individuals who pay tax and have signed a Gift aid form and during the year we claimed £530. Please consider signing a form if you have not done so in the past. The form is available on our website.
The Charity is immensely thankful to all individual donors and partner church donors for their generous donations as this has enabled FAPA to make significant grants to support the activities of the Province of Alexandria.
The charity remitted £28,149 for specific activities of the Diocese of Egypt which comprised income donated for specific purposes of £23,949 and £4,200 from general donations was remitted to be used at the discretion of the Archbishop.
The most significant risk is sustainability of donations.
## **Reserves**
The Trustees consider that approximately £2,000 should be retained to meet future needs of the charity. At 31 December 2021 the level of unrestricted reserves was £2,017.

**1** Friends of the Anglican Province of Alexandria is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered in England.
**2 Basis of Accounts Preparation** The accounts are prepared on a cash basis with income being recognised when received and expenditure recorded when paid. Where applicable income includes Gift Aid claimed.
**3 Charitable Funds** Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the charitable objectives. Restricted funds are subject to specific conditions by donors as to how they may be used. The grants made from such funds are set out in note 4.

## **FOR YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2022** - set out on pages 4 and 5
## **Respective responsibilities of the Trustees and the Examiner**
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011(the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- Examine the Financial Statements under Section 145 of the Charities Act,
- To follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act), and
- To state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the financial statements presented with those records. It also includes a consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements and seeking explanations form the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a “true and fair” view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **Independent Examiner’s Statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
- (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirement:
- -to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act.
- -to prepare accounts which accord with accounting records and comply with accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met; or
- (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the financial statements to be reached.
