To raise funds from the public by voluntary donations in order to make grants and donations to Local, National and International charitable projects or other good causes.

To carry out a volunteering service in the local community for the benefit of those in need of all ages without fear or favour, and irrespective of race, religion or gender. Club members carry out this service for no cost to the end user.

Tring Lions Club was originally formed in 1973, and throughout this accounting period had a membership of 17 individuals. 

Tring Lions Club CIO carried out a number of fundraising activities in order to raise funds from the public.  In conjunction with a number of other Lions Club in the area, we operated a second hand Bookshop in the Marlowes shopping centre in Hemel Hempstead.  During this accounting year this was again the main source of income. 

Our activities throughout the period were very much restricted by the effects of the COVID 19 Pandemic.  All of our monthly Business meetings had to be held online via Zoom.  The Lions second-hand Bookshop also spent long periods closed in line with Government Restrictions and so total takings were well down for the accounting period in comparison with the previous year. 

We did manage to hold our Chocolate Father Christmas and Chocolate Easter Bunny raffles as usual which raised funds from the public of £1058 in total.  We also started online Quizzes which invited Donations from those participating.  During the accounting period we held four separate quizzes and raised a total of £1064.  Another new activity that started during the accounting period was the sale of donated books and other donated items online through e-Bay.  This brought in funds of £222 during this period.

We were not able to hold our annual Carol Concert in the Forge Car Park, Tring in 2020 because of Government restrictions, and so instead it went online with a recording of carols being broadcast by Tring Radio on Christmas Eve.  Listeners were asked to make donations online through our website and we raised another £444 this way.  The total fundraising at Christmas 2020 allowed us to make a donation of £1000 to a local Cancer Charity in January 2021. 

During the accounting period we made a total of 24 separate donations to local, national and International charities and local good causes of varying amounts ranging from £100 to one that was of a value of £1000. 

All of the Clubs for the elderly people of Tring and Berkhamsted that members of our club normally support and provide transport or minibus escorts for, were cancelled throughout the entire accounting period because of Government restrictions.  So for this year none of these activities could be carried out.  One of our members did help serve hot food to the homeless at Charing Cross, and four members also helped at a Santa’s Sleigh event at Christmas 2020 in Tring raising funds for the local Hospice. 

All Trustees of Tring Lions CIO are aware of, and have seen the guidance issued by the Charity Commission, and procedures that should be followed relating to good governance of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

During this accounting period the Club raised £2566 through fundraising, and another £3242 was raised through the Lions Bookshop from the sale of second hand (donated) books, DVDs etc.  Fundraising for this accounting period was severely affected by the effects of the COVID 19 Pandemic. 

Following the granting of CIO status in December 2018 Tring Lions Club CIO is now able to make a Gift Aid claim after the end of the tax year on membership subscriptions, and also on cash donations under the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme (GASDS).  The amount claimed relating to the Gift Aid from H M Revenue & Customs is included in these accounts. 

Tring Lions Club CIO was the recipient of a ‘Hunger’ grant of £200 that was provided to enable the Club to make a donation to DENS, our local foodbank. 

- The total Income for Tring Lions Club CIO for this accounting period was £8515. 

Tring Lions Club CIO also made 24 separate donations to local, national, and international charities as well as to local good causes.  The total amount donated during the accounting period came to £7939.  Examples of our donations are: 

- £1000 to the Pepper Foundation UK (a small local charity raising funds for a Children’s Hospice), 

- £1000 to the Hertfordshire MIND Network 

- £500 to Lions Clubs international Foundation (For the Lebanon explosion appeal) 

- £400 to the DENS Foodbank.  £380 to the Sunnyside Rural Trust (to purchase a new Refrigerator) 

We continue to bear the annual maintenance costs of a Defibrillator in Tring Town centre which we arranged to be installed.  This amounted to £304 for the accounting period. 

We collected 3195 pairs of spectacles from members of the public for  recycling.  This is done using collecting bins in local opticians.  Members collect them regularly and they are then sent to another Lions Club for checking and shipping abroad to less developed areas such as in Africa for use by people there.  Also during the accounting period 35 used hearing aids were also collected for recycling. 

Finally, the members of the Club carried out 2465 hours of service to the local community during this accounting period, volunteering at the Bookshop and working on the various local community projects mentioned at Section C above.  Once again our service delivery during this accounting period was severely affected by the COVID 19 Pandemic.

**Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves** 

Tring lions Club CIO does not hold a large amount of reserves.  At the end of the accounting period the amount held was £7760.  Of this £2000 was ring-fenced for our sponsorship of the local minibus providing community transport.  £889 was ring fenced for maintenance of the defibrillator for the next 7 years.  Another £1500 was ring-fenced for community service projects in Berkhamsted.  The remaining £3371 was unallocated to any specific project.
