Structure, Governance and Management

Forgotten Felines Cat Rescue is governed by a board of six trustees who meet regularly throughout the year to oversee the running of the charity and ensure its objectives are met.

The trustees are responsible for the strategic direction, governance, financial oversight, and day-to-day management of the charity’s activities. Volunteers are delegated tasks by the trustees in support of the charity’s operations.

Potential trustees are interviewed by the existing trustees and, if approved, are formally appointed. Newly appointed trustees receive an induction and relevant training to support them in their role.

The trustees believe the charity currently has an appropriate balance of skills and experience to achieve its objectives, and there are no plans to appoint additional trustees during the forthcoming year.

The trustees recognise the importance of maintaining proper accounting records that accurately disclose the financial position of the charity at any time.

Objectives and Activities

The primary objective of Forgotten Felines Cat Rescue is to relieve the suffering of cats and kittens that are often overlooked by other charities.

The charity specialises in rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming vulnerable cats, including amputees, blind, deaf, elderly, feral, and FIV-positive cats.

The charity also works to educate the public and challenge misconceptions surrounding FIVpositive cats, encouraging people to “see the cat, not the virus” and to recognise the quality of life these cats can enjoy.

The charity relies entirely on voluntary donations, fundraising activities, grants, and the support of volunteers.

In furtherance of its charitable purposes, the charity:

• Rescues and rehabilitates vulnerable cats.

• Promotes responsible pet ownership.

• Ensures cats are neutered and microchipped before adoption.

• Educates the public on cat welfare and FIV.

• Works with local veterinary practices and neighbouring rescues.

• Promotes kindness towards animals through community and school engagement.

• Supports mental health and wellbeing through fostering and “cat therapy” initiatives.

The trustees confirm that they have referred to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity’s aims and objectives.

Achievements and Performance

This year has been particularly challenging for the charity. There has been a significant increase in the number of adult cats being surrendered by members of the public, while the feral cat population continues to grow. At the same time, support towards neutering costs from larger feline charities has remained limited.

As a result, the charity experienced increasing pressure on its financial resources, particularly in relation to rising veterinary costs.

Despite these challenges, the charity continued to provide care and support for vulnerable cats throughout the year. The trustees would like to formally recognise the dedication and hard work of the charity’s volunteers and supporters, without whom the charity could not continue to operate.

The charity continued to work closely with local veterinary practices by taking in FIV-positive cats when no alternative rescue spaces were available. Public awareness work also continued through social media, fundraising events, and community engagement.

The charity believes it continues to provide clear public benefit through:

• Improving cat welfare and preventing suffering.

• Promoting neutering and responsible ownership.

• Educating the public about FIV-positive cats.

• Supporting community wellbeing through fostering and companionship initiatives.

• Working collaboratively with other rescues to ensure cats are not left without support.

Financial Review

The charity recorded income of approximately £149,797 during the year, the majority of which was generated through public donations and fundraising activities. This also includes a legacy which was left to the rescue.

As the charity’s income exceeded the £25,000 threshold, Mrs Angela South FCCA was appointed to undertake an independent examination of the accounts.

The trustees believe that the financial statements provide a true and fair view of the charity’s financial position as at 31 October 2025.

The trustees continue to monitor income and expenditure closely and regularly review the charity’s financial commitments in order to maintain long-term sustainability.

Reserves Policy

The charity does not currently hold a formal reserves policy. However, the trustees recognise the importance of building financial reserves to support the long-term stability of the charity.

The charity will continue to apply for grants and develop fundraising initiatives with the aim of establishing reserves over future years.

Risk Management

The trustees have considered the major risks facing the charity, particularly the potential reduction in public donations and the continued increase in veterinary and operational costs.

To mitigate these risks, the charity continues to:

• Apply for grants and external funding opportunities.

• Develop fundraising activities and community support.

• Monitor financial controls on a monthly basis.

• Review expenditure regularly to ensure resources are used effectively.

• Explore Gift Aid registration opportunities to maximise income.

The trustees are satisfied that appropriate systems and procedures are in place to manage the charity’s activities and financial controls.

Plans for the Future

The charity’s aims for the forthcoming year are:

• To continue providing high-quality care for vulnerable cats.

• To recruit, support, and retain volunteers.

• To increase fundraising opportunities and improve financial sustainability.

• To continue promoting neutering and microchipping.

• To educate the public about FIV-positive cats and cat welfare.

• To expand foster capacity, particularly for feral and vulnerable cats.

• To strengthen relationships with neighbouring charities and veterinary practices.

• To continue developing links within schools and the wider community.

• To work alongside mental health services in promoting the benefits of animal companionship and cat therapy.
