**THE LEAGUE OF FRIENDS OF TUNBRIDGE WELLS HOSPITAL**

## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES**

The trustees of the League have pleasure in presenting their report and the financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2025.

## **PRINCIPAL OBJECTS**

The League was set up and registered with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, on 13 December 2018.

The League’s principal objects as set out in its Foundation Constitution are to mobilise, encourage, foster and maintain the interest of the public in the patients and the support of the work of the Tunbridge Wells Hospital by means of fundraising.

## **REVIEW OF THE ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT AND FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS**

The League receives subscription income from members and friends, legacies and donations from the general public. Members and friends also undertake various fundraising activities including table sales, coffee mornings and organised events.

Total income has decreased slightly this year, mainly as a result of a small fall in donations and investment income.

During the year the trustees were able to approve substantial donations for equipment at the Tunbridge Wells Hospital. The trustees will continue to support similar projects which clearly deliver a public benefit in the future.

The trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty set out in the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

A legacy has been left to the League. £200,000 was received in January 2026, with additional amounts to follow. This has been left for the general purposes of the premature baby unit at Tunbridge Wells Hospital.

## **RESULTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS**

The League generated a surplus of £18,873 before donating £42,181 to the Tunbridge Wells Hospital during the year.

## **RESERVES**

At the balance sheet date the League’s reserves amounted to £105,089. These reserves were and continue to be, unrestricted. It is not the trustees’ policy to build up large amounts of unused reserves.

## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES**

## **(continued)**

## **RISK MANAGEMENT**

The trustees have assessed the major risks to which the League is exposed. The principal risk is the ability of the League to attract donations and legacies to continue its support for projects at the Tunbridge Wells Hospital. This is mitigated by the efforts of the trustees to publicise the activities of the League and by our fundraising activities.

## **CORRESPONDENCE**

Copies of the financial statements can be obtained from and all correspondence should be addressed to the Hon. Secretary, 15 Herons Way, Pembury, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. TN2 4DW.

By Order and on behalf of the Trustees

**INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE LEAGUE OF FRIENDS OF TUNBRIDGE WELLS HOSPITAL**

I report on the accounts of The League of Friends of Tunbridge Wells Hospital for the period ended 31 December 2025, which are set out on pages 5 to 8.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the 2011 Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145 (5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

An independent examination does not involve gathering all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently does not cover all the matters that an auditor considers in giving their opinion on the accounts. The planning and conduct of an audit goes beyond the limited assurance that an independent examination can provide. Consequently, I express no opinion as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and my report is limited to those specific matters set out in the independent examiner’s statement.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view’ which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
