**Hope City Furniture has four purposes:**

1.19|**Hope City Furniture works in**
**partnership with many different**
**agencies and organisations in Derby**
**who refer people to us who have been**
**rehoused due to crisis for the provision**
**of free good quality furniture and**
**household items. During the reporting**
**period we received around 185 referrals**
**and gave away over 1,000 items of**
**furniture. Those referred to us included**
**refugees, women and families fleeing**
**domestic violence, the homeless,**
**victims of human trafficking, those**
**moving on from supported**
**accommodation and those recovered**
**from substance abuse amongst many**
**others. On every referral we explain that**
**we are Christians and offer to pray for**
**the person and also offer them a Bible**
**and/or tracts in their language if they**
**would like one. However, there is no**
**obligation to receive either, and neither**
**are a condition of receiving our services**
**as we provide furniture to people of all**
**faiths and no faith. All the furniture we**
**give away has been donated to us**
**therefore we actively promote the**
**upcycling and recycling of what would**
**otherwise potentially be landfill**
**furniture, in order to reduce the impact**| **----- Start of picture text -----**
on the environment of such
unnecessary wastage. We also sell
some antique and vintage furniture to
provide an income stream for the charity
in order to make it as self-sustainable as
possible. This furniture is primarily sold
to established contacts for upcycling
and resale and is mostly furniture that
we have been donated that is not
suitable to give away. The selling of this
furniture again relates to the purpose of
protecting and preserving the
environment through promoting the
reuse and recycling of second-hand
furniture. Most of the people referred to
us have experienced trauma due to the
different crises they have been through,
and most are lonely and isolated. In
order to promote social inclusion, we
often revisit those referred to us if there
is an open door to do so for social
interaction. We also try to connect
people to other organisations and
projects in Derby for ongoing support
and especially connect people into
churches around Derby where this is
appropriate.

**City Furniture has processed around**
**185 referrals and has given away over**
**1,000 items of furniture to people who**
**have been rehoused due to crisis and**
**who have found themselves in the**
**position of having to completely furnish**
**a new home without the means to do so.**
**This provision has greatly benefitted**
**those who have received it. We have**
**also given out over 100 New**
**Testaments and Bibles, and well over**
**200 tracts in around 10 different**
**languages and have prayed with almost**
**everyone we have delivered furniture to.**
**Many times, people have been touched**
**by the presence of God as we have**
**prayed for them. We have sold around**
**200 items of second-hand furniture**
**primarily for upcycling and resale. This,**
**together with the furniture given away**
**totals over 1,200 items of furniture and**
**household items reused and recycled**
**which has undoubtedly reduced**

**£16,757.68 of which £2,500 was**
**restricted to the workshop fund.**
**Total receipts for the period of this**
**report were £52,712.39 of which £27,600**
**was restricted funding received from**
**various trust funds. Unrestricted income**
**came primarily from sales of donated**
**furniture and unrestricted donations.**
**Funding and grants received during the**
**reporting period came from Foundation**
**Derbyshire, The Benefact Trust, Deo**
**Gloria, The Foundry International, Sir**
**Cliff Richard Charitable Trust, Angela**
**Gallagher Memorial Fund, The Dorcas**
**Trust, The Barleycorn Trust, The Marsh**

**Expenditure for the period was**
**£45,971.84, of which £18,652.40 was**
**restricted. Unrestricted expenditure**
**consisted primarily of the costs of**
**charitable activities and payroll.**

**The net result for the year was an**
**excess of receipts over expenses giving**
**a total profit of £6,740.55 and a closing**
**balance of £23,498.23 of which**
