**household items. During the reporting**
**period Hope City Furniture was only**
**actually open for four months from**
**September to December 2020 due to**
**Covid. However, in that four-month**
**period we received 60 referrals and gave**
**away around 350 items of furniture.**
**Those referred to us included refugees,**
**women and families fleeing domestic**
**violence, the homeless, victims of**
**human trafficking and those recovered**
**from substance abuse. On every**
**referral we explain that we are**
**Christians and offer to pray for the**
**person and also offer them a Bible**
**and/or tracts in their language if they**
**would like one. However, there is no**
**obligation to receive either and neither**
**are a condition of receiving our services**
**as we provide furniture to people of all**
**faiths and no faith. All the furniture we**
**give away has been donated to us thus**
**we actively promote the upcycling and**
**recycling of what would otherwise**
**potentially be landfill furniture, in order**| |||**to reduce the impact on the environment**
**of such unnecessary wastage. We also**
**have a charity shop where we sell**
**vintage and antique furniture. This**
**provides an income stream for the**
**charity in order to make it as self-**
**sustainable as possible but also again**
**relates to the purpose of protecting and**
**preserving the environment through**
**promoting the reuse and recycling of**
**second hand furniture. Most of the**
**people referred to us have experienced**
**trauma due to the different crises they**
**have been through and most are lonely**
**and isolated. In order to promote social**
**inclusion we often revisit those referred**
**to us if there is an open door to do so**
**for social interaction. We also try to**
**connect people to other organisations**
**and projects in Derby for ongoing**
**support and especially connect people**
**into churches around Derby where this**

**four months that the charity has been**
**open, we have processed 60 referrals**
**and have given away around 350 items**
**of furniture to people who have been**
**rehoused due to crisis and who have**
**found themselves in the position of**
**having to completely furnish a new**
**home without the means to do so. This**
**provision has greatly benefitted those**
**who have received it. We have also**
**given out well over 30 New Testaments**
**and around one hundred tracts in over**
**10 different languages and have prayed**
**with almost everyone we have delivered**
**furniture to. Many times, people have**
**been touched by the presence of God**
**as we have prayed for them. We have**
**sold over 200 items of second-hand**
**furniture, many of which have been**
**upcycled. This totals together with the**
**furniture given away over 550 items of**
**furniture and household items reused**
**and recycled which has undoubtedly**
**reduced unnecessary landfill and**

Review of the charity’s Para 1.21 The opening balance at 01/04/2020 was
financial position at the end £4,028.04.

Total receipts for the period of this
report were £24,971.72. Of this £400 was
restricted to literature purchase and
£3,175 was restricted to the renovation
costs on our new building. Unrestricted
income came primarily from sales of
donated goods, primary purpose trading
and unrestricted donations. We also
received a grant of £2,000 from
Foundation Derbyshire.
Expenditure for the period was
£13,324.62. Unrestricted expenditure
consisted primarily of the costs of
charitable activities and the costs of
activities for generating funds.
The net result for the year was an
excess of receipts over payments of
£9,956.04 on unrestricted funds and
£1,691.06 on restricted funds. Giving a
total of £11,647.10 profit and a closing
balance of £15,675.14.
Statement explaining the Para 1.22 Hope City Furniture has a reserves
policy for holding reserves policy which states the charity aims to
stating why they are held have three months (approximately
£4,500) of operating costs in the bank
account at all times. Should the amount
in the bank account fall below this
figure, then measures will be taken to
limit expenditure. Every effort will then
be made to rebuild three months of
operating costs as quickly as possible.
Reserves are held in order to cover the
following:
1. Contingency: unexpected expenditure
in the event of an emergency;
2. Cash-flow: situations where a bill has
to be paid before the money to cover it
has been received;
3. Commitment: a commitment to
expenditure which cannot be covered by
the annual income;
4. Closure: the charity becomes
financially unsustainable and has to be
wound up.
As of the 31 [st] March 2021 Hope City
Furniture’s closing balance was
£15,675.14 of which £1,691.06 was
restricted.
