ROCHDALE SOCIETY OF MODEL ENGINEERS ANNUAL REPORT
The purpose of our Society is to inform and educate the public in the practice of miniature Engineering. Our Society operates and maintains a multi gauge miniature railway in Springfield Park, Rochdale. This park is owned by Rochdale MBC.
Our year ran from the AGM in October 2020, and was a virtual meeting of the trustees only.
Our regular programme of meetings and talks at Castleton Community Centre was not possible because of Covid restrictions, as were our public running sessions in Springfield Park.
We re-started public running in May, as restrictions eased, and a bi-monthly programme of meetings started again in September.
Our clubhouse at Springfield Park has a small meeting room, workshop, modest technical library, steam boiler test rig. Specialist tools are available for members to borrow. All these facilities and experience are freely available to both Junior and Senior members who are interested in model engineering.
A rolling programme of maintenance projects were completed during our closed season where members could pass on their skills to other members.
The Society completed the process of negotiating a 99 year lease on the land, from Rochdale Council which will safeguard our future.
Of note, we also negotiated a grant of £5,000 from Rochdale Township, for the purchase and installation of gates and fencing, to improve the appearance of the site and safer public running.
