Constitution – based on the Charity Commission’s model governing document for Foundation Charitable Incorporated Organisations, ie: where the Trustees are the only Members of the charity.

As defined in Cambourne One’s Constitution (Governing Document):

  1. TO ADVANCE ISLAM, FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY BY THE PROVISION OF FACILITIES FOR PUBLIC WORSHIP.

  2. TO FURTHER OR BENEFIT THE RESIDENTS OF CAMBOURNE AND THE NEIGHBOURHOOD, WITHOUT DISTINCTION OF SEX, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, RACE OR OF POLITICAL, RELIGIOUS OR OTHER OPINIONS BY ASSOCIATING TOGETHER THE SAID RESIDENTS AND THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES, VOLUNTARY AND OTHER ORGANISATIONS IN A COMMON EFFORT TO ADVANCE EDUCATION AND TO PROVIDE FACILITIES IN THE INTERESTS OF SOCIAL WELFARE, RECREATION AND LEISURE TIME OCCUPATION, WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF IMPROVING THE CONDITIONS OF LIFE FOR THE RESIDENTS.

  3. ANY CHARITABLE PURPOSES FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT AS ARE EXCLUSIVELY CHARITABLE ACCORDING TO THE LAWS OF ENGLAND AND WALES AS THE TRUSTEES MAY FROM TIME TO TIME DETERMINE. THE PROMOTION OF RELIGIOUS HARMONY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC BY: PROMOTING KNOWLEDGE AND MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING AND RESPECT OF THE BELIEFS AND PRACTICES OF DIFFERENT RELIGIOUS FAITHS.

There must be at least three charity trustees.

In appointing Trustees due consideration is given to ensuring that the Trustees have, between them, the skills and experience necessary to manage the charity effectively and in accordance with charity law.

3 Activities

3.1 Statutory Declaration

The Trustees of Cambourne One confirm that they have paid due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit in deciding what activities the charity should undertake.

3.2 Girls Club

Since it began operating in 2018, the charities well established club for girls, continues to serve children from the age of school years 7 to 13. The club’s purpose is to impart knowledge of the Islamic faith to the extent that it prepares young adults to be responsible citizens that strive for the betterment of society, in their professional and personal capacities.

The club continues to be held weekly during school term time, at a local secondary school facilities, that the charity has continued to hire at a preferential competitive rate. The club is structured to provide a balanced vocational learning and development experience, through teaching and social gatherings over dinner. The club provides a friendly and supportive environment, encouraging all attendees to fulfil their potential from formal learning and in developing soft skills. Attendees learn to maintain respect for one another and acknowledge opinions of others; develop teamwork, confidence and emotional intelligence.

The club continues to be a proven and successful provision for young children and teenagers to regularly meet socially in a disciplined and fun environment, providing an essential service. Satisfaction has remained consistently high, with both attendees and parents remaining committed to attendance, funding and volunteering time to support the club. Attendance has continued to grow, by 16.7% over the past year

With concerns over Covid, the club have not been able, as in the past, to arrange several recreational visits offsite combined with parties, marking the end of club terms and years. The parties have been successful in encouraging parents, their children, club representatives and volunteers to meet informally and discuss development.

Publicity of the club has been largely and successfully viral, with “word of mouth” attracting growth in attendees from within the local community and surrounding areas. The structure and content of the club remains unique within the area; other parties have expressed interest in observing and learning from the success of the club with a view to replicating them.

The club continues to consider introducing digital learning tools and methods as well as investing in equipment, to enhance learning.

4 Achievements & Performance

Covid has unprecedently affected the charities ability to continue with wider community engagement. The charity succeeded on several fronts as follows, including the pre-Covid period:

5 Financial Review

5.1 Details of Any Funds Materially in Deficit

The Charity has no funds which are materially in deficit.

5.2 Policy on Reserves

The Charity’s policy on reserves is to generate and maintain a balance which is sufficient:

a) to preserve the financial viability of the Charity in the event that unforeseen and/or unavoidable circumstance precipitate a short-term fall in its income;

b) to enable the Charity, in the interests of meeting its objectives, to undertake from time to time the setting up of new and innovative projects on a pilot basis to demonstrate the viability and potential benefits of such activities as a precursor to securing the external funding necessary to maintain such projects on an on-going basis.

For these purposes the Charity will endeavour to generate and maintain reserves which are at least 50% of its annual turnover.

Cambourne One’s principal source of funds is club fees. It has not engaged in any specific applications for grants or fundraising activities in the current year to 30 March 2021.

Cambourne One’s principal outgoings are facility costs for the running of clubs, and teaching costs.

All Trustees act in a voluntary capacity and receive no remuneration or other material benefits from their services to the Charity.

Out-of-pocket expenses necessarily and reasonably incurred by Trustees in promoting the purposes of the Charity are reimbursed at cost.

Though modest, Cambourne One’s current resources from unrestricted donations are sufficient to meet its outgoings for at least next year.

All the indications are that this will remain the case for the foreseeable future.

6.2 Notes to the Accounts

a) Accounting Policies

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 Section 133, using the Receipts and Payments basis available to small charities.

b) Salaries

No trustee receives any payments for the services they provide to the charity. In the current financial year the charity employed no staff or external contractors;

c) Fixed Assets

The charity has not purchased or disposed of any fixed assets in the current financial year;

d) Rounding Discrepancies

All amounts are recorded to the penny, but in these accounts are shown as digitally rounded to the nearest pound. This can occasionally result in a total apparently not being the sum of its constituent amounts. All individual amounts, and their totals, are nevertheless correct.
