ouarterfy to review resul1$ and manage ils affairs. In Ihis way the Truslees gather information needed lo
make decisions and plan for the future. New truske$ are recruited by personal approach or
recommend8¢ion by a current tnjsiee.
The Tfuslees have appoini*d a CEO. Lara Bloom. who leads Ihe day-f￿aY managemenl of the charity.

The principal aGtivity Is that of the prowsion of seryices to the putlic. speu"fically 811 ￿￿pIe and their families
who either suffer or are affected by Ehlers-Dankss syndromes and hypemiobility spectrum disorders. The

Launched in 2017. The Ehlers-Danlos Swety is a UK community of patients. caregivets. health ca
prolessionals. and supporters, dedicated lo saving and improviNJ the lives of those affected by the Ehlers-
D8nlos syndromes, hypemobility spectrum disorders, and reiale(I discwders. The Ehlers-Danlos Sooety
supports coJlabor8live research and education initiatives both in Ihe UK ano around Ihe world, awareness
campaigns, advocacy, community-building, arKI Ggre fow tlle EDS and HSD pe￿￿latIon.
Our charitable goals are lo increase global awawness and a ensure a better quality of life for all who suffer
Irom these conditions in the UK anty wher& appropriate globally. Research is at the cenlre of %th8t we do, so
Ihat one day we will have a c¥Jre. Our strenglh begins with hope.
Achievements and P¢rformanc•

Educatlon
Throughout thè year we have continued lo work hard to connect wilh our community 8nd medical
professionals. The Ehlers.Danlos Society has held multiple evenls ￿th both virtual and in-petson
Ilendance Options lo ensure we Can reach as much of the public as possible. During this lime, we hève
held the following Confere￿eS1eVenis.
In response to the 9lobal COVID pandemiG. The Ehlers-Oanlo> SoGiety hekl a Virtual ￿uMMer Conference
in both 2020 & 2021. For our 2022 Global Learning Conference. we were able to offer in-person attendance
in addilion to a virlual option for the firsl lime in several years. The conference was held in Phoenix, Arizona
gnd we war8 joined by 296 in-p•rson at18ndees as well As 958 virtual attendees from around the globo. with
28 01 the altendees being localed in the UK. In 2023 we were ablè to offer in-pefson attendan￿ In addition
10 8 virtual option again lor our Global Leaming Conlerencè, which was In Dublin, Ire18nd. We were
joined by 204 in-person attendees as well as 827 virtual attendees from around the globe, with 104 of Ihe
alten¢Jees being located in the UK. Our ovenls have offered invaluable inswht5, thared experiences. and
much-needed support lo this mix ol p81ienls, ¢3￿gIVe15, 8nd medical profe5$10nals.
The Ehl8¥s-Danlos Society opeiales EDS ECHO, which is a serie5 of progr8ms and covrses for healthcare
professionals across all disciplines who want lo improve their ability lo care lor people with Ehlers-Danlos
Syndromes IEDSI, hypeTmobilily spectrum disorde￿ IHSOI and associated symplom5 and conditions.
Across our 12 EDS ECHO courses ran in 2022. 182 Continuing Education credits were available lo
healthcare professionals. We also held i¥￿ virtual•only"ECHO Summif eveAls In 2023 as part of our ECHO
program lor medical prOfesS￿n31$. These events had a lotal of 2,374 attendees with 134 of the attendees
being localed In the UK.
The Ehlers-Danlos Society has produced multiple We￿"nal5 presented by med￿1 professionals from
around the globe, which include a Q&A portion lor attendees to pose questions on the specific topic being
discussed. These webinars have been viewed wortthThJe over 125.000 limes.
Research

The Ehlers-Danlos Society continues to supp￿1 efforts with the Hypemiobile Ehler5-Danlos Genetic
Evalualion IHEDGEI study, a study devoted lo finding the uThlerfwng genetic markers for hypermobile EDS
{hEDSI. To date, 1.022 people are enrolled lo the study. of these enrdmenls, 143 are based in the UK.
Analysis ol the sample data has begun.
In 2022 The EMlers-Danlos Soeiety beg3n Wofk on a new Criteria Study. Vffi￿h aims to enhance the
understanding of hEDS and HSD by thoroughty reviewing and updating the 2017 diagnostic criteria, while
sirnultaneously rev*wing and refining Ihe current definikn.ons lo contn.bule lo more accurate and
comprehensive clinical assessments. The Criteria study is at the forefront of fostering inlemational
collaboraiion wilhin the society's research landsca￿, engaging with a diverse nefvth of research sites lo
cullivale a collatxJraliv8 environmeni for this multisrte study. The study has athieved critical milestones by
obtaining Instilulional Review 8oard (IR81 approval at a third of the research srtes. showing our dedication
to ensvring the welfare and rights ol our research participants.
In 2022 ihe UK and US org?nisaiity)$ worked ¢ollabofatI￿jY 10 $UPPtsrt groundbreaking stuolies across
various aspects of Ihese disorders, including genetic research. pain management strategies, and
rehabilitation Intervenlrons. We funded ovef $1,000,000 of research 8round the worfd which has the
potential lo Iran$lorm Ihe lives of millions affected by EDS and HSD.
Advocacy, Awaren•$¥, •nd Support
Our Helpline has been an invaluable resource lor individuals affected by EDS and HSD, providin9 vital
information, support. an¢J gU￿ance. Throughoui 2022 and 2023 oui Helpline answered over 1,000 calls
91obally, with 5-10% of those calls from our community in the UK. Over 6,000 Helpline emails were re¢eived
nd ans%vered, wilh 10-15% of 8mails r¥spoi)diry to yLJ$$tions frtsiTI lh8 UK. Oui oityoiny aiiy) is tu pKovid¢
support and informalion lo best equip people with the kwledge they need to improve their quality of life.
The Ehlers-Danlos Society also cultivates a supporlive community through ¢)ur Inspire message board and
Virtual Support Groups. which play a erucial role in the lives ol individuals living with chronic illnesses such
as EDS and HSD. Over 121 meetings We￿ held Ihroughoui 2022, wlh attendees joinin9 from all around the
world including Colombia. Japan, Gem18ny, South Africa, Russia, Sw'¢zertand, Sweden, Denmark, the VK.
Canaéa. Tvrkey, 8razil, and all over the USAI Many were meeling someone INing with EDS or HSO lor Ihe
first lime. The Ehlers-Danlos Society's Inspire message board is the most engaged community on Ihe
Inspire platfofrn, with 118.000 members from rkwe than 150 countries.
In 2022, Ihe foundations were laid for 3 dedicated youth program lo delivèr support services for children and
adolescents with EDS and HSO. Junior Zebra Iracks al our global conferenees. and support groups for ages
12
and 1 >17, Offe￿(1 opportunities fc* connection wilh ott)ers. and to lalk about their experiences in a non-

The Ehlers-Danlos Society cDnducts a comprehensive Carnpa￿n to raise public awareness about EDS and
HSD duling the month of May each year. Through Ihe Acts of Awareness social media campargn.
education81 resources, and community events. we engage individuals around the world, shining a light on
the challenges faced by those living with these disorders. The camp8wJn fosters empathy, dispells myths,
and inspires action. bringing us doser to a souety that understands and supports individuals with eos and
HSD. During our May 2022 campaign. suprM)rters raised an Incredible $51.230.80 to support our global
mission! Buildings were lit up across the USA. the UK. and Australia." proclamations were requesled lo
90vefnors across the US". and the ￿mmUnity shared the campaign across social media from all comers of

As a relatively new and expanding charity, Ouf income Irom this financial year has been influenced by the
COVID pandemic and subsequent economic turmoil bul has predominantly come Irom public don81ions,
lundraising evenls in memory ol those who have passed away and a grant from The Ehlers-Danlos Society
(US Charilable Society}. Our 8dministralive expenditure is kepl as low as possible in order lo ensure
maximum benefit lo the berbeficittries. and os dtsscribed we continye to work ¢lo•ely by ¥horing ¢ommon
services with The Ehlers.Danbs Souety. USA.
Our Slalemenl ol Fin8ncial Aclivili8s sh¢)ws a nel movement In funds of £508 for Ihe fiscal year ending on
30th April, 2023. The resulted In an Increase In lolal fvnds at Ihe balance sheet date 10 £31.487.
Going loryvard, we aim lo increase our income in the same ways and to apply for potential grant
opportunities in the UK and the USA. We also Intend to focus on growiThJ our UK-based community giving.
We do not have any deols. and al this lime we do not have a reserves policy but we aim io create one in the
next few years as our income all¢)ws. Wè continuously rev*w the financial pertormanc8 of our activities and
Pfograms lo ensure they allocate resources lo Iheir besl effeet.
We currently employ Iwelve full-lime stsff. part-time staff, and one full-lime consuttantl¢oniraclor. All of
our staff work remotely as part ol our effort to reduce unnecessary overhead expendilures 8nd reduce our
impact on Ihe environment.
