## **Godiva Voluntary Medical Responders (GVMR)**

## **Trustee Annual Report 1[st] December 2019 – 31[st] December 2020**

The past year and the global pandemic has created a very challenging time in which to operate a charity, especially a charity that relies almost solely on public donations. The bulk of our donations are raised during ‘bucket shaking’ events in supermarkets and shopping parades. The pandemic has meant that social distancing and extra safety measures have made these events either impossible or very limited in nature, in between lockdown restrictions.

Balanced against these funding limitations, the pandemic has, ironically, placed extra demands on volunteers due to extreme pressures experienced by NHS ambulance services across the UK. Our volunteers have worked tirelessly to deliver emergency care to patients as part of our role in responding to 999 calls for ambulance assistance. Indeed, responding to 999 calls has taken so much time, that much of our community involvement activities, such as first training, have been placed ‘on hold’

In December 2020, the charity underwent some governance changes. Namely the resignation of Mr S.H as both ‘Chair’ and ‘Trustee’ in order that he could concentrate his time on other activities and his work as a Paramedic. An extraordinary meeting was held, virtually on 2[nd] December 2020 and Carl Rose was appointed ‘Chair’ and third ‘Trustee’

As part of this meeting, a discussion around the charity’s name was held. It was decided that the name Midland Army Medical Responders might have connotations around military links, which the public might find off-putting. The new name of Godiva Voluntary Medical Responders (GVMR) was suggested and agreed by all as a way of linking the charity to Coventry and clearly stating it’s purpose.

Over the coming year, we hope to reinstate some of our community roles and develop the group into a larger organization with extra, newly recruited responders. We continue to maintain a strong and professional relationship with West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.
