The trustees present their report for the year ending March 2021, financial statements for the year 2020- 2021 have been provided in accordance with the legal requirements.

## **WRITTEN CONSTITUTION**

The charity is governed by its overarching constitution of the CIO, this was adopted on 27th November 2018.

## **DESCRIPTION OF THE OBJECT OF THE CIO.**

The objects of the CIO are

To assist in the relieving of suffering and distress, amongst persons endangered by accidents and natural hazards in the South and Mid Wales geographical area, but also without geographical limitation. To provide adequate arrangements for the secure and efficient search and rescue of any person or persons so endangered.

We are volunteers. On call every day, of every month, of every year. Whatever the time, day or night. Whatever the weather. Saving lives.

## **DETAILS OF PERSONS OR BODIES ENTITLED TO APPOINT CHARITY TRUSTEES AND METHOD OF APPOINTMENT**

Within the terms of the Constitution the Trustees are appointed by the membership of the Charity, this occurs at each Annual General Meeting and they hold office until the following AGM. The trustees must be members of the charity and can be up to 12 in number. Trustees are to stand down at the end of each year, They can stand for a maximum of 5 years.

## **FINANCIAL: GENERAL RESERVES**

The Charity does not have a formal policy for the level of reserves held, however it has been practiced over many years to ensure a minimum of £10,000 is kept in reserve as this is the estimated cost of running the charity over a period of 12 months.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**

The Trustees are satisfied with the financial position of the charity.

## **Grant Making:**

During the last financial year, the Charity made no grants to any other charitable organisations.

## **DEVELOPMENT, ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS**

During this year the team had 57 incidents, working as an individual team and alongside other mountain rescue teams the Coastguard and statutory emergency services. The Covid pandemic has had an impact upon the number of call outs received by the team, several months of the year the country was in lock down. Training was also scaled back during the initial months of the pandemic.

The greatest impact upon the team from Covid was the lack of fundraising

opportunities and this is reflected in our income from donations.

We have entered into a 3 year partnership with Helly Hansen to develop professional grade clothing for search and rescue teams. This will see every team member being supplied with a base layer, insulation layer and waterproof outer layer of clothing.

We have agreed to support the Adventure Smart program to educate the users of the great outdoors and hopefully reduce the amount of call outs caused by inexperience or bad decision making.

We now have 33 trained team members on the call out list, with a further 10 members in training. We have an additional 10 support members who assist with fundraising and administration. The trustees remain proud and confident that we are an effective and cohesive team.

We again have worked very closely with the other teams in the area and the trustees are confident that our working relationships with our colleagues in neighbouring teams remain excellent.

## **FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS**

The team has looked at expanding its training facilities to allow for further growth. Vehicles remain our biggest asset and we replaced one of our 4x4 vehicles this year. We are planning for the next refurbishment or replacement project as this will become paramount in the next year.

## **VOLUNTEERS AND THEIR FAMILIES**

The trustees would like to acknowledge and thank all the members for their hard work and commitment this year, special thanks go to the exec, the team officers and the party leaders for making sure things happen as and when they are supposed to. It is also important to recognise the families of our volunteers who support the team by supporting members to undertake the training and callouts throughout the year.

## **PUBLIC BENEFIT STATEMENT**

The Trustees confirm they have complied with the duty in section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to the guidance published by the Charity Commission including public benefit guidance.

Approved by the Trustees on the and signed on their behalf by:

Mr M Songhurst
