AcHI￿EmENTs AND PERFORMANCE
The Community Trust continued to run the Orchard Hall and Unit 14. wSth significant community groups
tontinuin8 to use the space.
The Merb'5 Shed also contTrnued to go from strength to Strength, working with and promding products for the
local community.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
The Finanaal year 2024125 was a challenging period for the Midsomer Norton Communlty Trust
The Town Council's refurbishment of the Town Hall continued to overrun, meaning the Community Trust
remainèd withoLrt its main source of income and several of its mair event pro8ramme5- including the
Cinerna and National Theatre Live. The CommunityTrust also took on management of the Somer Centre in
AprS12024 at short notice. whilst its lease on Untt 14 ended in December.
Despite the challenges the Community Trust oversaw the management of four hugely %uccessfvl Major Town
Events Midsomer Norton Music & Arts FestÉval, the Christmas Lights Swr(ch-On and Wassail. Some monthlv
events contlAued at other events around town including The First Thursday Afternoon Social and Paradis.
The Trustees are responsible for keepin8 proper accounting records that disclose with reason3ble accuracy at
any time the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the finanaal statements
comply wf(h the Companies Art 2(M)6. The Trustees are also responsible for safeguardin8 the assets of the
charity and hence ta￿ng reasonable steps for the prevention and detertion of fraud and other irregularitie5.
The above report has been prepared in accordance with the provision5 applicable to companies subjert to
the small compantes re8ime as set out In Part 15 of the Companies Act 2rx)6 and in accordaftce with the
Charities SORP IFRS 1021.

Having Satisfied myself that the financial statements of the Charity are not required to be audited under Part
16 of the 2(kn Act and are eligible lor independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of
your charity'5 financial statements as carried out under sectior% 145 of the Charities Act 20111.the 2011 Aci'l.
In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commlssion Under section
145151 Ibl of the 2011 Act.

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charitles..
Statement of Recommended Practite applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with
the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 (effective I

Short term Cfeditors are measured at the transaction price. Other creditors and provisions are
recognised where the charity has a present obligation resutting from a past event that will probably
result in the transfer of funds to a third party and the amount due to settle the obligation can be
measured or estimated reliably. Creditors and prowsions are normally recognised at their settlement
amount after allowing for any trade discount5 due.
Researth and devèlopment
Expenditure on research and development is written off in the year In which it is incurred.
Forelgn currendes
Monetèry assets and Ilabilities denominated in currencie5 Other than the functlonal currency of the
charity are translated at the rates of exchange prevailing at the end of the reportin8 period.
Transattlons in currencies other than the functional turrency of the charity are recorded at the rate of
exchange on the date that the transaction occurred.

Where the charity enters into a lease whieh entsils taking substsntially 311 the risks and rewards of
ownership of an a$5et, the lease is treated as a finance lease.
Lease5 which do not transfer substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership to tharity are classified
as operating leases.
Assets held under finan￿ leases are initially recognised as assets of the charity at their fair value at the
inception of the lease or. if lower. at the present value of the minimum lease payments. The
corresponding liability to the lessor is included in the balante sheet date 35 a finance lease obligation.
Lease payments are apporknorned between finance expenses and reduction of the lease obligation so as
to achieve a constant rate of interest on the remaining balance of the liability. Finance expenses are
recognised immediatety, unless they a￿ dlrectly attrlbutable tu qualtfyin8 assets. in which case they are
capitalised in accordance with the charity'5 policy on borrowing C05ts.
Assets held under finance leasès are depreclated in the same way as owned assets.
Operating lease payments are recognised as an expense on a straight-line basis over the lease term.
In thè event that lease incentives are received to enter into operating leases, such incentNes are
reco8nised as a liability. The aggregate benefit of incentives is recognised a5 a ￿￿UttI0n of rental
expense on a straight-line basis.

The charity operates a defined contribution plan for it5 ernployee5. A defined contrlbutiorn plan 15 a
pen510n plar bJp.dcr which the corppany pay5 fixed contributions into a separate entity. Once the
contributions have been paSd the coMpa￿Y has no further payments obli8ations. The contributions are
rtcognised as expenses when they fall due. Amounts not paid are shown in accruals in the balan
sheet. The assets of the plan are held Separately from the company in independently admSnistered
funds.

Community Trtsst Grant
The Commissioning Grant is put towards the overall management of the
Community Trust and the management ofthe town's communSty spaces
notably the Town Hall and Orchard Hall, as well as the Youth Hubs. The
grant helps the volunteer led organi5ation to fulfil its PL5rposes in the
community.
This is the sponsorsh¢p grant for the Norton Youth Club initially approved
in 2019. The sèssions run on Thursday even4ngs throughout the year,
including school holiday5. The se55ions will be primarily run In the Fown
Hall. alongside outreach sessions (again usirsg the Town Hall as a basel.
