## About Us…

Love Portsmouth-Jesus is a Christian independent grant making charity, specifically focussed on Christian outreach projects in the Portsmouth area in 2019. A team of Three Trustees and an Administrator was formed to run the charity. Following several pilot projects the charity commenced issuing grants in April 2019

Our objectives for the coming year is to promote and publicise to the many organisation that may benefit from Love Portsmouth – Jesus (LP-J). This will primarily be through the use of Social Media, Promotional Leaflets, Personal Presentations and Word of Mouth.

During this period our aim is to make LP-J the go-to organisation when raising funds for local Christian outreach projects in Portsmouth, via Churches working together in the community, bringing the Love of God to all people.

In 2022-2023 more grants were awarded during this year

## **Some of the Grants Made 2022/23**

## **Spirit in Sport awarded a £10,000 Grant**

As members of staff on Spirit in Sport, as much as humanly possible, we seek to embody Jesus in how we treat those at our ministries and in our attitude toward our work. We believe this is important to show those we serve how we have come away changed by the love of Jesus. In terms of communication of the gospel this varies across our ministries: At School Sports, Sports Camps, Girls Football Club, Home-Education sports club: Every child receives a different card with a Bible verse and an inspiring word at the end of every session. One of our coaches will do a short talk on the word of the week and how this links to sport, the rest of our lives, and the gospel. Being for kids and because many members at our ministries have no church background, we ensure to always be unashamed, but still conscious of our audience and what they may/may not already know about Jesus. For example, last week our word was ‘courage’ – we had the verse from Joshua ‘be strong and courageous’, and Sam our Graduate Team Leader shared about how he believes God will never leave nor forsake him, and how that is the same for the children wherever life takes them. We’ll then finish with a prayer. At Monday Night Football, Community Table Tennis café, through building relationship and community with members we invite them to other events Spirit in Sport and churches across the city do. For instance, during the World Cup we hosted a big screen showing of England v Wales. At half-time our Graduate Team Leader gave a talk on the gospel message and plugged the upcoming Alpha Course; of which, someone who has been coming to our football for many years has given a try the last 12 weeks and seen the Holy Spirit move for himself!

## **Mustard Seed Ministries awarded a £13,000 grant**

Oasis Pantry aims to provide Landport Community with a Community Food Club, through the ‘Your Local Pantry’ Franchise.

Its focus will be to provide mainly healthy food (both dry/fresh), drinks, toiletries, baby products at a very low price, plus some homemade fresh nutritious light foods i.e. soup, stews.

The Pantry would also like to use the expertise of Clare Poole (Nutritionist) to teach families how to make cheap, simple and healthy meals. She will be looking to offer cooking demonstrations.

The Pantry will be a place to show Gods love through affordable food /toiletries etc but will also provide a place where people feel safe and where they feel they belong.

The Pantry will be run in a way that seeks to promote dignity, choice and hope.

The Pantry will be a place to help build stronger relationships in the community (which nicely compliments Personal Choice work). We would encourage customers to have a free cup of tea and coffee and let them know about activities they are offering too.

The Pantry will also build relationships between St Margaret’s and Northend Baptist.

It will provide people in the Landport community with very low cost but good quality food which will improve their household finances, which in these current times where prices of living are soaring is and will increasingly be a great need.

It will help people connect with their local community (improving their mental health). This will be through both the pantry and personal choice.

It will help people to eat healthier fresh foods, which might not otherwise be affordable (improving their physical well being).

It will offer people the chance to improve their cooking skills (this part will again compliment the work of Personal Choice but will extend this to all ages).

It will bring Gods love and hope to the community.

## **Changes to Trustees for 2023/24**

All the existing Trustees are stepping down at the end of this financial year and appointing new Trustees to carry out the work of the Charity. It is with grateful thanks for all the hard work of John Swindell, Derek Williams and Rose Marie Potter for their faithful contribution especially setting up the charity from inception and all the difficulties they encountered. The hours spent by each Trustee has been appreciated and the hope that the new Trustees will enable to Charity to grow and support the Good News of the Gospel in Portsmouth.
