The PCC Is also responslble for the maSntenance of 5t Andrew's Church, South Church and St Anne's Church, Market Place, Bishop Auckland. Oblectlves and Actlvltles When plannin8 our activitie5 for the year the incumbent and the PCC attach great importance to public benefit, and we try to enable oidlnary people to Ilve out their faith 35 part of our parlsh communlty through worship and prayer, learnlng abgut the Gospel and developlng thelr trust in Jesus provision of pastoral care and practScal support for people living in the parlsh missionary and outreach work The PCC is committed to enabling as many people •$ possible to worshlp In our two churches and to become part of our parish community. Our servlces and worship are based around prayer, 8Ible readlng, preachin8, music and sacrament. PCC members also provide input into the parish Mission Actlon Plan as they consider how we can best serve our church members, local communlty and the wider world through our seNlces and actlvities. A¢hlevements and Performance Worshlp È7nd PrGyer The PCC are keen to offer a range of services durlng the week and over the course of the year whlch our community find both beneficial lincluding for those who are soclally isolated) and spiritually fulfillirig. We try to provide a range of services.. from a traditional Holy Communion service Ilitur8ically led and with traditional hymns) In St Andrew'5 each Sunday mornin81 a quieter Holy Communion Se￿I(e in St Anne's each Thursday; and our contemporary Sunday Gathering seNice lof an inter-generational and interactive style, with contemporary music) from St Anne'5. All ale welcome to attend our regular services. In 2023 our parish worshipping community consisted of 107 people121 children aged 0-10, 6 young people a8ed 11-17, 50 adults aged 18-69 and 30 adults aged 70+1. After the last revision of the Electoral Roll in April 2023 there were 81 people on the Churth Electoral Roll.

As well as our regular seNlces, we enable our local community to celebrate and thank God at the milestones of the journey through life and offer appropriate pastoral 5UPPOrt. In 2023. 29 baptisms, 11 weddings (with two additional service5 of prayer& dedication after Civil Marriage) and 35 funera15 lof which 4 were conducted at a crematorium or cemetery) took place in our parish. On 5 October we held a sèrvice for All Souls In St Anne's Church for the relative5 of those whose funerals had been conducted in the parish during the past year so that they could light a candle, listen to a short reflection and rerrember their loved one5. Work with Chlldren, Youth & Families During 2023 our work with chlldren, young people and familie5 expanded with the appointment of our Growlng Faith Mission Leader to work with 5-115 throughout the par55h, to work alongside our refocussed Early Yeor5 Mission Leader. We undertook our weekly, term-time, activities of.. Blessed Beginnings lourgroup for babies and toddlers and their parents / carersl,. Kingdom Kids lour group for 5-115 and their families),. and, Youth Group Ifor youn8 people aged 11-18 years). Durlng school holidays we ran a range of activltle5 Includlng a free famlly film club (with a hot meal included) and Stoy 'n' pl(ry ses51ons. We continue supporting local primary schoo15 by delSverln8 a programme of weekly assemblles and RE le55on5. We a150 WOTked with local primary schoo15 to produce a large eolourful display in St Anne's durln8 the weekend of the Food Festival and a similar display of paper bauble5 at the Chrlstmas Tree Festival in St Anne's whlch colnclded wlth the town's Chr15tmas Llghts Swltch.On. On both occasion5 many families came Into ¢hur¢h to see what thelr chlldren had made in school. We also held our Chrlstlngle se￿Ice In St Andrew's Church. Minlstry to the Elderly Lay pastoral vlsltors vlsSt twelve parlshioner5 once a month and Spend tSme talkSng, IlstenlnB and giving communlon to these people, who have been re8ular long-term church worshippers but who are no longer able to come to church. The pastoral visltors also vlslt anyone who has been in hospltal and need5 time to recuperate before ￿turnIng to church. Those recelvin8 vSsit5 all Say how much they enjoy them, and that they feel better afterwards. Town Events Once agaSn, the 8lshop Auckland Food Festival look place In Aprll and St Anne's Church was open throughout the weekend provlding refreshments and toSlet facillties as well a5 a place for children to play. To celebrate the Coronation of King Charle5111 we held a afternoon tea. On Remembrance Sunday, the church and variou5 members, led the town's Clvlc Parade at the memorlal, followed by a service in 5t Anne'5 Church. After opening for the weekend of Bishop Auckland Christma5 Tgwn with o Chrlstmas Tree festlval In St Anne's Church, on the Saturday before Christmas, we held a carol 5etvlce In the Market Place. Helping people In need Our Connectlons 8roup Iformally Warm Hub) contlnued throughout 2023. It Is open from 10-30am to 1'.30pm each Wednesday. A warm drink and biscults are offered on arrival with a simple lunch belng served from noon. Newspapers, puzzles and crafts are available, and there15 always someone around wlth whom to chat. We contlnue to support our local food bank (part of a crisis intervention project based in Woodhou5e Close Church Community Centrel through donations of food and hygiene produ¢t5, in addition to financial as51Stance.

Throughout the year we have given to other registered charltSes in this country and over5ea5. These currently include Christians against Poverty, Compassion UK Ithrough whom we sponsor a little boy in Kenya), The Message Trust, Medaille Trust, Mercy Ships and Prison Fellowship. We have a150 SUPPOrted local families by holding a baby clothing event and a school uniform event with Items of clothlnB available free of charge or for a small donation. Grants of £IOOO and donations from the community were used to Plsrchase school uniform. We also keep a supply of used children's clothes to offer to anyone who asks us for them. When deciding which charities to support and for how long, the parish Global Mission Committee will bear in mind some of the stated prlorltles of the Diocese, namely poverty, children and the envlronment. We a150 continue to provide practical asslstance to individuals who approach the church directly for help and where necessary we sl8npost them to the approprSate agencies when longer term support is required. In our care for the wider world, we seek where possible to use Falrtrade and envlronmentally friendly products. We have also continued to help displaced Ukrainlan familles wSth clothe5 and given practical help and SUPPOrt to help them with their new life in our town. We held a Setvice of Prayer for Ukraine to mark the flrst anniversary of the Invasion. Ecumenict71 Involvernent Bishop Auckland Parish is a member of the Blshop Auckland Fellowship of Christian Churches IBAFCCI, a grouping of local churche5 from various Christian denominatlons. BAFCC events in which the Bishop Auckland Parish were involved included the weekly Lent lunches and the 'Octave of Prayer for Chrlstlan Unity,. Bulldlng$ To facilitate our work, it 15 Important that we maintain the fabrSc of the churche5 of St Andrew (Grade I Ilstedl and St Anne (Grade 21 and ensure that all equipment 15 Serviced and inspected a5 necessarv. A programme of building work5 is being developed to provlde St Anne's Church with more approprlate facilities needed to se￿e the local communlty. The south roof of St Anne's Church is Sn need of repair / replacement and we are currently lookin8 into the posslbllity of installing solar pane15 or slates. A consultancv projett to provide options for passive and active energy measures in St Anne's Church, jointly funded by the PCC, Heritage England and Durham County Council was concluded durin8 the year. During 2023, St Andrew's Church work to upgrade lighting and AV equipment has continued. Hire of Church Premlse$ St Anne's Church has a number of spaces available for hire at reasonable rates, subject to the completion of hire agreement which includes compliance with health and safety and safeguarding regulations. In 2023 total receipts into unrestricted funds were £72,824.. unrestritted voluntary donations amounted to £59,474, of whlch £9,183 was clalmed as Gift Aid. Receipts from church activSties, principally fees for wedding5 and funerals, Contribut￿ £7,843. Of recelpts Snto restricted funds of E28,9491 grant5 accounted for £11,530. Most of these 8rants were for the building consultancy prolect at St Anne's Church. Regular giving wa5 UP slightly on the prevlous year aBain1£36,440- up from £35,876 in 20221- At £101,774, total Parish receipts were higher than the £90,586 recelved in 2022, due mainly to a increases In donations and fees for our actlvltles. A total of £86,543 wa5 5peni from unrestrlcted funds to provide the Christian ministry from Bishop Auckland Parlsh, Includlng the contrlbution of a Di0￿san Parish Share of £31,241,1£3,759 le55 than In 20221. Other major costs were in respect of insurance, utllitles, and buildings maintenance, Payments f rorn restricted funds amounted to £57,212; much of the youth and chlldren's work was funded by 8rant5 from the Scotto Trust, wSth a significant additional proportion coming from Parish reserves in the form of the St Anne's Old School Fund, which is avallable for appllcatlon for educatlonal purposes. Total payments In the year were £143,755, down slightly from the £148,3251n 2022. The net result for the year was an excess of payments over recelpts of £41,981 overall. Based on ihe bank and deposlt balances brought forward at the beglnnlng of the year, the balances carrled forward at 31 December 2022 thus amounted to £92,454 of unrestricted fund5 and £63,654 of restrlcted funds, that Is, £156,108 In total.
