The Trustees of the charity have paid regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit and ensured that the activities and outcomes associated with the charity have met this requirement. The principal criteria applied is that beneficiaries demonstrate that without support from the charity that their personal, medical, social or financial circumstances would prevent them participating in, and developing ability, in music.

Our partner organisations were able to deliver activities on our behalf.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

- We continue to support BOSP with its Music Therapy sessions for children with severe impairments and their families. This provides regular opportunity for the children to enjoy making music and also to enable a degree of respite care for the families.

- Song School (formerly EVC) has continued with musical tuition and enabled 15young people to receive tuition. In addition, they have established regular holiday workshops for the children to attend and developed a number of creative projects which the charity has supported alongside other partners. This has seen students engage in songwriting, production and performance which has created major benefits to their emotional wellbeing.

- · The award of Ewan's Drum Scholarship was made to a young student who demonstrated both talent and aptitude.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

- contribution made by volunteers.

The charity has no employees and therefore relies heavily on the contributions of time and resources from its volunteers. The efforts of this group have sustained the fundraising and awareness of the charity. The charity is primarily a grant-making body and has benefitted from its relationship with a number of key partners, BOSP; Song School; Nicola Collis Music. The Trustees ensure that activities of its delivery partners are compatible with the charity's objects.

## Section D Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

The charity has relied heavily on individuals to continue supporting the charity in innovative ways to supplement its regular supporters. The continued regular donations from Ewan’s grandmothers Mrs V. Lane and Mrs. J Spittle plus those of Andrew Manton were augmented by funds raised from supporters through social occasions and designated donations e.g., BBQ’s, Xmas cards, snack sales.

The continuing UK economic challenges have meant that there has been sustained pressure on public giving with the subsequent reduction in opportunities to raise charitable donations. This has required the Trustees to review the proposed activities and to revise the programme accordingly.

Song School continued its partnership by also raising funds through collections at performances and through licensed 'busking' showcases in Southend.

The continued support for BOSP has been a key objective for the charity and has provided continuing music therapy and respite care for BOSP’s clients. This is a strong relationship and one which the charity hopes to sustain.

## **Section E                    Financial review**

We look to maintain adequate reserves to meet our commitments should **Brief statement of the charity’s** there be a short-term fall in donations. Our policy is to continue to look for **policy on reserves** opportunities to deliver our charitable objectives to as many beneficiaries as we can. We will look for this to be a long-term commitment so continually review our funding, spend and reserves to ensure it is sustainable. **Details of any funds materially in deficit Further financial review details (Optional information)**
