Puss in Boots Cat Rescue is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) who’s Trustees are selected and appointed under the CIO Constitution. It’s three current Trustees maintain compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. Our records are kept securely and accurately and we engage professional services as needed for legal, veterinary and administrative guidance.

## Charitable Objects

The objects of the CIO are to promote humane behaviour primarily towards cats, by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment, security for cats and kittens which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstance, ill-usage or homelessness. In furtherance of this object, the trustees shall provide education on the importance of neutering, chipping and diseases such as FIV.
## Activities
Originally established as Animal Aid UK (November 2018) to support all animals in need, our charity has recently refined its mission and rebranded as **Puss in Boots Cat Rescue** . This shift reflects the growing urgency in Leeds and surrounding areas, where the past few years have seen a dramatic rise in abandoned cats and expanding feral colonies.
We are a small team of unpaid volunteers (with three charity Trustees) dedicated to helping stray, abandoned and homeless (“street”) cats through the following activities:
- ➢ Undertaking the TNR (Trapping, Neutering, Releasing) of feral and “street” cats, who are treated, rehomed/adopted or safely returned.
- ➢ Offering short-term shelter or sanctuary (fostering) for cats without owners.
- ➢ Paying for the medical treatment of sick or injured cats, especially those without owners.
- ➢ Actively seeking new homes for “rescued” and fostered cats where possible and appropriate.
- ➢ Helping to reunite missing/stolen cats with their legitimate owners, through the giving of advice/posters and assisting with searching and trapping and all the associated costs.
None of our volunteers claim expenses; in fact, they frequently cover costs out of their own pockets - whether for food, equipment or emergency care - driven purely by compassion and a shared commitment to feline welfare.
We rely completely on charitable donations and undertake our own fundraising and related activities in order to bolster these.
Beyond our structured colony work, we remain deeply committed to responding to urgent, ad hoc appeals - most of which reach us via social media - to assist stray and “street” cats. These animals often arrive with untreated medical conditions and we

ensure they receive the necessary veterinary care alongside spaying or neutering. This process typically involves short-term fostering, which we fully fund.
## - Section 2: Reporting Year 2024 2025
## Introduction
As a Trustee of Puss in Boots Cat Rescue, I am delighted to present our Annual Report for the fiscal year ending 12 August 2025. This document outlines the year’s achievements, financial summary and ongoing commitment to the welfare of cats in our care and our community. Our goal remains transparency, compassion and giving every rescued cat a chance at a fulfilling life.
Puss in Boots Cat Rescue is dedicated to the welfare of cats and kittens in Leeds and surrounding areas. Originally founded as Animal Aid UK to support all animals, we rebranded this year in response to the rising number of abandoned cats and feral colonies. Our primary objectives are:
- To rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome cats and kittens in need.
- To manage feral colonies through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs.
- To promote responsible pet ownership and neutering.
## Overview
Throughout 2025, our dedicated team of volunteers worked tirelessly to fulfill our mission, placing the wellbeing of every cat at the heart of our operations.
## Achievements and Performance
Over the past year, we have:
- Taken in **151** cats/kittens (+25 from last year).
- Neutered/spayed **116** cats/kittens (+21 from last year). Registered Charity No. 1180656
- Provided veterinary care with the health issues of **151** cats/kittens (+51 from last year).
- Released **69** cats/kittens (+23 from last year).
- Fostered and rehomed **50** cats/kittens through our adoption program (-64 from last year).
- Euthenised **0** cats/kittens (-6 from last year).
- Responded to various ad hoc rescue requests via social media.
- Maintained a no-expense-claimed policy among our team, with volunteers often personally funding food and equipment.
Importantly, all animals received a thorough health check, vaccinations and microchipping as needed.
In summary, thanks to grants such as the ones received from Animal Friends, the Marchig Animal Welfare Trust and Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust the charity expanded its intake, medical care and TNR work, while adoptions dropped slightly compared to last year, though no cats were euthanised this year.

Our position is that income exceeded expenditure slightly, with a surplus of **£1,099** . Consequently, the charity remains financially stable, with our largest area of spending

directed towards veterinary care and animal welfare, whilst administrative costs were kept low. Key insights are:
- Veterinary costs dominate at **over 80%** of total spending, reflecting the charity’s strong focus on medical care.
- Animal support makes up around **15%** , covering food, fostering and welfare needs.
- Running costs are kept extremely low at **just 4%** , showing efficient use of funds.
All financial activity is fully documented and available upon request. Overall, funds were managed prudently to maximise the care we provide and to support our growth.
## Community Outreach
In December 2024, Temple Newsam High School in Leeds reached out to the charity’s founder to say they were seeking a cause to support through fundraising in Spring 2025. By January 2025, they confirmed that Puss in Boots Cat Rescue had been shortlisted as a charity partner. The school requested a short video highlighting the work we do and made use of case study posters we had created to highlight our impact; these contained ‘before’ and ‘after’ stories of cats in need that have previously received our care. Unfortunately, we did not receive any donations from the school but are grateful for the opportunity to educate young people in the area and promote the charity.
We also continued to:
- Identify, recruit, and engage volunteers in fostering, socialising and transporting cats/kittens.
- Organise fundraising events and campaigns to support our mission and advertise the charity.
## Public Benefit Statement

Our work directly benefits the public by reducing stray cat populations, preventing animal suffering and promoting community awareness of responsible pet care. We have considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit and believe our activities meet these requirements. It should be noted that Puss in Boots is one of the only two charities in the Leeds area that undertake TNR operations that focus on larger cat colonies.
## Volunteer and Supporter Involvement
Our volunteers are the lifeblood of Puss in Boots Cat Rescue. In 2025, we welcomed new volunteers (total of five for the year) and celebrated the ongoing dedication of our established team. Support from donors and loyal social media enabled us to reach more cats than ever before.
## Looking Ahead
Our commitment to rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming will continue to guide us into the coming year. We plan to expand our facilities, increase outreach efforts and strengthen our volunteer network, all with the aim of improving the lives of cats and enriching our community. Specifically, we will strive to:
- Expand our foster network to accommodate more emergency rescues, including pregnant mums or mums with young kittens.
- Launch a community outreach campaign to promote neutering.
- Secure additional funding to cover veterinary costs and equipment.
- Formalise partnerships with local vets and shelters.
