-
Providing service and fundraising events for the benefit of the local community in Wokingham and surrounds, for example the May Fayre and Winter Carnival.
-
Responding to requests for help for those in need, because of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or another disadvantage. This may take the form of practical help or financial assistance.
-
Responding to requests for help from local organizations seeking support for worthwhile charitable projects. These would include youth groups such as Scouts and Guides and those groups providing assistance for the elderly, the sick or those with special needs. This may take the form of practical help as well as financial.
-
Actively seeking suitable beneficiaries of funds that we have raised.
-
Providing activities and entertainment for those in need in Wokingham and area.

The Wokingham Lions Club was very active throughout the year. Donations to good causes were made on the recommendation of the Community Services Committee and were approved by Club members and totalled £67,503 for the year. The notes to the Accounts contain a list of the charitable donations made by the Club.
Other events that we organised during the year were: 1) The May Fayre

3) Five Comedy evenings
-
4) Two quiz evenings
-
5) Wokingham Music Club event
During the year, Wokingham Lions Club took over the running of the Wokingham Music Club with the dual aim of promoting live music and raising funds for our Charitable works.
Due to adverse weather, the Winter Carnival planned for the end of November had to be cancelled, which impacted on our income for the year.
In addition, Wokingham Lions Club were one of 4 service Clubs that organise the Wokingham Fireworks display. The surplus from the event is distributed evenly among the 4 Clubs.
The Club supported several local community projects including:
-
Helping First Days - a children's charity - by manning their second-hand uniform shop which is open to the general public for 3 hours weekly.
-
Organising a Christmas food collection for elderly and families in need
-
Supporting SpecTrek, ReTec and Message in a Bottle
-
Distribution of Wild Tribe Heroes books to local junior schools
-
Taking a large group of disadvantaged children and their families to the District Funday in Marwell.
