Review of Trust's activities
The Wokingham Lions Club was much more active during the year, as we were able to run many of our normal activities which had been impacted by COVID-19 in the previous year.
The main events that we organised during the year were:
-
1) The May Fayre
-
2) Two Wokingham Walks
-
3) Two comedy evenings
In addition Wokingham Lions were asked to take on the Wokingham Winter Carnival from November 2022 and were given the proceeds from the Group previously running the event. We also received a one off legacy during the year. In addition, Wokingham Lions were one of 5 service Clubs that organised the Wokingham Fireworks display and received a donation to make to Charity from the surplus resulting from the event.
Donations to good causes were made on the recommendation of the Community Services Committee and were approved by Club members and totalled £36,054 for the year. The notes to the Accounts contain a list of charitable donations made by the Club.
The Club supported a number of local community projects including:
-
The Wokingham Community Hub that was set up during the COVID-19 lock down
-
Helping First Days - a children's charity - by collecting unwanted school uniforms, cleaning & ironing them for other families as part of the School Days programme.
-
Organising a Christmas food collection for elderly and families in need
-
Supporting the ME2 Club at some of their activities. The charity enables young people with additional needs and disabilities to attend mainstream events.
