League Operatlon Report
The League seuetsry presented her report on the league operation during 2024.
> At year end the league is oper*ing with 23 teams across 4 divisions. Thls include5
Hereford which is outside the county and in Spring 2025 Monmouth will also join the
league. Thls will be offset lry the withdrawal of one of the Wycllffe team5 In the Sprln8
league.
> It was reported that theltenham Cfjllege are considering entsrin8 a team aaain for the
2025126 season.
> Thefe was a discussion on the current nsles for the league with a focus on the criteria for
setting team order. Currendy. under the Squash levels ranklng System. tearns may vary the
playlng as long as there is no more than a 20% difference in ranking of a hi8her ranked
player when playlng below a lower ranked player. ft was debated whether this was too
restrlttive in certain arcumstsnces and there should be relaxed. Reason5 for allowlng thi5
were suggested as allowing players ￿covering from InlLSry and those who have not played
for sometlme. After full dlscussion it was agreed that these were not reasons to justify
relaxlng the current rule which generally works well as the Squash levels algorlthm works
well to adjust rankings With results thereby corrertln8 51tuations where people would
need to play out of order.
tt wa5 also noted tlw the link to the rules PQSted on the web5fte was currently I￿t
worklng.
> The requirement for the home team to provlde post match hospitality to the away team
was ralsed for discusyon. It unanlmousty agreed ty all at the meetlng that soclal contart
is an important part of league operatlon to promote coheslon of squash In the county.
The quallty of refereeln8 was ralsed as an Issue for dlscussion given that few teams have
players who have atten(Jed courses or have formal refereelng qualificatlons. It was agreed
that the GSA wlll irwestlgate the possI￿lity of runnlng annual courses for members to
Improve perfomiance In thls a￿￿.
> The p0$51blllty of holdlng an end of season social event and awards presentstion was
ralsed for discusslon. ft was unanirnously agreed that thls Is a good Idea and Andrew
Gayler of CLC a8reed to tske on responsibllity for organlsln8 this.
> It was also suggested that a whatsapp group be setup for all team captalns to facllrtate
improved communicatk+n of league maters across all team5.
Couirty Squash ile¥elopmwrt
Glven the relatiNely stron8flnandal position of the GSA relative to annual expenditure, the attendees
were Invlted to dlxuss options for Investing money to support devek)Fffient of the game In the
county. With East Glos continuing to grow and attract members, It is seen as important for the
County that other clubs are sustalned in order to malntain a wide and distributed playin8 base In the
county. Members were irwited to share ideas for developingthe 5POrt acrossthe county with Input
as follows-
Can we better use using soclal media I websites to improve publiuty and raise the profile of
Squash in the County as a means to bri￿ in rn0￿ Playe￿ from all parts ofthe county?
The playing base for racquetball is increasing In m05t dubs. Are there sufficient number of
Inte￿sted clubs I players to have a dedlc*ed league or incorporats It in to the existing
league strutture7

> We should contlnue with the County 005ed doubles which proved Tr**ry successfvl when held
in 2023
> Are there enough junior5 across all dubs to hold some form of county Interdub competftion
or perhaps a junior county closed tournament- at some point in the season?
> Access to coaches remalns 8n issue for some dubs to support people new to the game or
seeking to improve their skill& Can the county fund programmes at target clubs7
> Is the junior squash star5 programme still running and can It be taken to addltlonal dubs?
