Annual Review 2022
Gloucestershire S
uash Association - AGM
Chairmans Re
rt for 2022
2022 has been the first full year ol the Gloucertersh1￿ squash assouation operatlon under the r￿W
charitsble status following the integr*ion of the junlor and senior section under a single common
structure. Duringthis time we have focused on a number of strategic priorities:
l. Getting the governance and committee strutture setup and enga8in8 people to take on the
specific requlred roles in order to meet out legal dutie5 under the charbties aci. l am pleased
to report that this is now18r8ely complete.
2. In parallel with the settin8 up of the organ￿tIOn we have cornpleted the financial integration
of the senlor and Sunlor 5ettions and confirmed that the associatlon has the means to operate
sustalnable at current activity levels. The annual report for the 12months to May 31" 2022 5s
attached to this report and confirms reserve5 of LÉ15k at finandal year end, 5ufflcient to
support more than l year of operatlons Without arry fvrther revenue. We consider this to be
sufficlent at pre5enL
3. Our third priority area has been to ensure th*, following restart of squash in late 2021, our
artivities are setup to encourage maximum participation by as large a number of people as
posslble. A key part of thiswork has been a revlew of the league rules and structure5 to update
them ensure that both are fft for purpose to attract as wlde a playlng base as posslble. Th15
has been completed wlth new set of league rules Introduced In September 20222 for the
current league seay>n.
4. We contlnue to work har(1 to enstsre that the lunlors are encouraged to take up and enjov
squash as a core sport In order to replace the large number of older players who are stoppln8
squash or swltchln8 to other sports such as paddle or racketball. Successful coaching
pro8rammes run at East Glos, Old Pats, Wycliffel Stroud and the Cheltenham Colleges. We are
Seeking addltlonal coa￿￿ to expand the number of locatlons for these programmes.
Ad(litlonal the junlor county devebopment programme contlnues to flourlsh under the
direction of Mark Toseland.
5. The county closed tournament was also held in Sept 2022 and, althou8h the entry was small,
there was some high qualrty squash with Will Salter ultimately belng crowned as our Senior
County Champlon for 2022. A very well done to Will and to runner up Jamie Carmlchael. In
2023 we wlll hold the county closed eadter in the year Immediate￿ following the completion
of the sprin8 leagues over the weekend of Aprll 1° and 2 . As well 8$ the single event, we will
add a doubles event to the tournament weekend and hope that this will attract an Increased
entry over recent years.
6. As we look forward to 2023 and beyond. we will continue our efforts to grow the player b3se
with actlvlties to encourage new players to take the sport. This will requlre promotional
activitie5 and publicity and we are developing plans to increase the awareness of squash and
racketball as swrts around the communities of Gloucestershlre.

Annual Review 2022
7. Finally, I want to thank the Trustees. the officers of the GSA and the members of the
management committee for their hard work over the last several years in very difficult
conditions. Without them giving their time f￿1V and without ￿muneratIon there would not
be a GSA and you as our members would not be able to enjoy the benefits of the activities
that are puton for both adu￿5 and1un￿r$. Partlcylar thanks go to MarkToseland for his efftjrt
of the last 5 years, freqyently with no other support. Without him, I think it unlikely that there
would be a functioning GSA today. I must also emphasise that we need our members to
engage arbd volunteer to supportthe associat￿n across the range of our activities in order to
share the burden. I would therefore ask that all clubs ensure that thw take an active part In
the management of the association as we 80 forward.
Thank you all for attending tonlght and l am happy to take any question you may have before I pa
over to our TreaSU￿r to present the report and account for approval.
