The trusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisionsofAccountingandReportingbyCharities:Statement of RecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththe Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019). ``` ## **`OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES`** ## **`Objectives and aims`** ``` ThesearesetoutintheRulesandintheArticlesofAssociation.Theobjectivesremaintoprevent or relievepovertyinOinousses,Greeceandforthepublicbenefittopromoteeducation, town/rural regeneration in areas of social and economic deprivation. ``` ## **`Public benefit`** ``` ThetrusteeshavereferredtotheguidancecontainedintheCharityCommission'sgeneralguidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning its future activities. ``` ## **`ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE`** ## **`Charitable activities`** ``` The2022annualdinner/dancetookplaceincentralLondoninmid-November2022and was well-attended,withalargenumberofyoungerguestssupportingthisyear.Asinpreviousyears,the net incomegeneratedfromthedinner/dancewasanimportantcontributiontowardstheFund'sbudget for thefollowingyear,2023.Theincomefromthedinner/dancewassignificantlygreaterthanin previous years,largelyduetouseofanonlineauctionandraffleplatform.However,theexpensesrelatingto the dinner/dancewerealsosignificantlyhigherthaninpreviousyearsasthecostsforallelementsof the eventincreasedduetotheinflationaryeconomicclimate.Despitethis,thenetresultwas an improvementonpreviousyearsandcoveredtheshortfallfromthelackofdonations.Thenumber of donationsdecreasedsignificantlyinthe2022financialaccountingperiod.Thiswasmostlikelydueto the increasedcostofliving.Combinedwiththeregularannualdonations,theFundcollectedsufficient monies tobeabletomakemostofitsusualcharitabledonations.Themajorityoftheseweremadeto individuals andinstitutionsonOinoussai.TheFundgavedirectfinancialsupporttoseveralcompatriotsonthe island formedicalassistance;tothe'FundfortheNeedy'whichisrunbytheFriendsofOinoussaiSociety; to theteachingstaffintheschools;totheschoolchildren;andtoassistwiththerunningexpensesof St. Nicholaschurch.TheFundalsocontributedtotherunningexpensesoftheSchools'BoardingHouse which formsavitalpartoftheisland'scommunitystructure.Financialsupporttothe'subsistencefund', which providessubsidisedmealsforthecadetsoftheNavalAcademy,wasnotrequiredthisyearasthere were sufficientfundscarriedforwardfromthepre-pandemicperiod.InLondon,aspartoftheFund's 80th anniversarycelebrations,awell-attendedeventwasco-organisedwithNaftikaChronikain mid-November tocelebrateOinoussianMaritimeHeritage.Furthermore,thetraditionalholybreadsweredistributed on 6thDecember,StNicholas'sDay,anddespiteappealingfortheusualdonations,limitedamounts were received.TheChristmaseventontheislandwasheldinDecemberandasinpreviousyears,giftsfor the island'syoungchildrenwerepurchasedbytheFundfromthetwolocalgiftshopsandgiventoevery child ontheislandtogetherwithrefreshments,supportingthelocalcommunityasalways.Thewebsite and socialmediapageshavecontinuedtoprovepositiveinenhancingawarenessoftheFundand its activities,aswellasfacilitatingsomeonlinedonations.Allsupportcostswereconsciouslykeptto a minimum, in order to maximise the amount available for charitable donations. ``` ## **`FINANCIAL REVIEW`** ## **`Financial position`** ``` Thetotalincomefortheperiodto31December2022amountedto£94,949.Totalexpenditure amounted to£107,572,ofwhich£30,223representscharitableexpenditure,whilst2.5%wasspenton support costs. ``` ## **`Investment policy and objectives`** ``` Atpresent,thepolicyforthetrustremainstoinvestonlyincashdeposits.Onlycapital-guaranteed, no risk products could be considered in the future. ``` ## **`Reserves policy`** ``` Thetrusteeshavedecidedthatitwouldbeprudenttoholdtheequivalentof6monthsexpenditure on keyoverheadsandkeyannualcharitabledonationsinreserve.Withanannualexpenditureof around £30,000 in the UK and in Greece, the trust will retain around £15,000 in reserve. ``` ``` Page 1 ``` ``` OINOUSSAI BENEVOLENT FUND (REGISTERED NUMBER: 10847931) ``` ## **`REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2022`** ## **`FINANCIAL REVIEW`** ## **`Going concern`** ``` TheTrusteesassesswhethertheuseofgoingconcernisappropriatei.e.whetherthereareany material uncertaintiesrelatedtoeventsorconditionsthatmaycastsignificantdoubtontheabilityofthe charity tocontinueasagoingconcern.TheTrusteesmakethisassessmentinrespectoftheperiodofone year fromthedateofapprovalofthefinancialstatements.Afterreviewingthefund'sforecasts and projections,theTrusteeshaveareasonableexpectationthattheTrusthasadequateresources to continueinoperationalexistencefortheunforeseeablefuture.Thekeyfactorsforthisexpectationare as follows:- ``` ``` 1)Theannualdinner/dancefundraisingeventiswellattendedbybetween350and400 people, generatinganetincomeofaround£18,000eachyear.Theannualdinner/dancefor2023isscheduled to takeplaceinmid-Novemberandisexpectedtobewell-attendedasitisbeingheldinadifferent venue and has become a key event in the calendar of the London Greek community. ``` ``` 2) The annual contributions and donations from members are regular at around £15,000. ``` ## **`FUTURE PLANS`** ``` Theannualdinner/danceisscheduledtotakeplaceincentralLondoninearlyNovember2023. Following thesuccessofthe80thanniversary2022dinner/danceandthechangeofvenue,itisanticipatedthat the 2023eventwillbewell-attended.Therequestsforannualdonationsandcontributionswillbesentout in early2024.Beingawareofthecontinuedinflationarypressuresandtheincreasedcostofliving,it is expectedthatitwillagainbechallengingtoraiseincomefromdonationsandvoluntarycontributions. For thesameaforementionedreasons,anincreasednumberofrequestsforassistancearelikelyto be received from individuals and institutions on the island. ``` ``` TheFundhasagainbeenapproachedtoconsiderincreasingitsassistancewiththefinancesrequired to keeptheisland'sBoardingHouseforstudentsoperational.Thetraditionalsourcesofcharitable support fortheBoardingHousearenolongerabletocoveralltheannualcostsofthisimportantinstitutionon the island. The Fund will therefore consider if it is able to further increase its contributions. ``` ``` Asinpreviousyears,theFundaimstogivefinancialsupporttoseveralneedycompatriots,tothe 'Fund fortheNeedy'whichisrunbytheFriendsofOinoussaiSociety,tothe'SubsistenceFund' providing subsidisedmealsforthecadetsoftheNavalAcademy,totheteachingstaffintheschools,tothe school children on the island and also to assist with the running expenses of St. Nicholas church. ``` ## **`STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT`** ## **`Governing document`** ``` Theorganisationisacharitablecompanylimitedbyguarantee,incorporatedon3July2017 and registered as a charity on 6 November 2018. ``` ``` Thecompanywasestablishedunderamemorandumofassociationwhichestablishedtheobjects and powers of the charitable company and is governed under its articles of association. ``` ``` Membershipisopentoallpersonswithheritagefrom,oranyfamilyconnectionto,theisland of Oinoussai,Greece,includingthoselivingintheUnitedKingdom,officesofcompaniesworldwide with Oinoussians in position of senior management. ``` ## **`Recruitment and appointment of new trustees`** ``` TrusteesaretheDirectorsofOinoussaiBenevolentFund,whoareelectedtotheExecutiveCommittee in accordancewiththeArticlesofAssociationandtheRulesoftheOinoussaiBenevolent.Members are electedtotheExecutiveCommitteeatanAGMoranyothertimeasdeterminedbythe Membership.
