Weekly horse riding sessions are provided specifically for children with disabilities in order for them to gain therapeutic benefit and have the opportunity to achieve.

The Group works with children with a range of disabilities and reasons for taking part. The Group provides specialist tuition, training and support for people with disabilities to ride and take part in non-riding, equestrianrelated activities. Without our support, most of our participants would be unable to take part in these activities.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

The core purpose of the charity is to benefit the health and well-being of children with disabilities through the delivery of effective and life enhancing therapy, the opportunity to learn new skills and achieve personal goals and ambitions and the chance to enjoy taking part in a social activity that promotes general well-being.

We have complied with our duty to have due regard to the commission's public benefit guidance when exercising any powers or duties to which the guidance is relevant.

Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)

We would like to thank our large group of extremely dedicated volunteers, without whom we would not be able to operate as we do.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

We cater for young riders with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities, principally autism and cerebral palsy but also including deafness, learning disabilities, developmental delay and Down’s syndrome.

There are very few opportunities in the area we serve for children with disabilities to learn to ride within a supportive, RDA-approved environment, taught by RDA qualified instructors.

During the course of 2024/25 we ran groundwork sessions for those children who don't wish to ride but would benefit from becoming more familiar with ponies through grooming sessions.

We have also run "Tea with a Pony" sessions, a new meaningful activity to help those living with dementia and other long term conditions. RDA created Tea With a Pony in response to the growing number of people living with dementia, for whom horse-riding may not be suitable but who might be helped by some other form of animal-assisted activity involving horses.
