The Trustees of Tennis4TheWorld CIO present the annual report covering the period 1 January 2024 to end of its financial year, 31 December 2024 (the “period”).

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) (effective 1 January 2015) (amended 2 February 2016) as detailed in the accounting policies.

The Tennis4TheWorld CIO (the “Charity”) was registered as a charitable incorporated organisation with the Charity Commission of England and Wales on 2 November 2018, number 1180534.

Structure, Governance and Management

Tennis4TheWorld existed as an unincorporated organisation before its registration as a charitable incorporated organisation in England and Wales. The Charity’s governing document is the CIO Foundation Constitution dated 2 November 2018.

The Charity is the creation of young tennis players, Amaya Sharma ( now aged 18 ), Aarav Sharma ( now aged 16) and their tennis coach Theo Ezekowitz.

Inspired by the work of tennis coaches in Uganda, Aarav, Amaya and Theo were inspired to collect and donate rackets, kit and other equipment they had no more use for to less advantaged children around the world. With just the aim in 2017, of sending one package initially to Uganda, Amaya, Aarav and Theo decided to establish a charity with a bold vision “ To help transform the lives of children ”.

Continuing this with initiative, Amaya and Aarav continue to approach schools they attend and have attended, tennis clubs they are and were members at, and other venues to collect unwanted tennis equipment and clothing and distribute it to schools, colleges and social development projects around the world.

The Charity aims to help children in disadvantaged communities around the world by collecting and sending donated equipment and kit to help children learn and improve their skills, capacities and capabilities and their conditions of life through:

The trustees meet on a quarterly basis.

The Charity’s trustees from time to time are its only members.

Trustees are appointed by the board of Trustees and meet four times a year to deal with the governance of the Charity.

The secretary is appointed by the Trustees to assist in the day to day administration of the Charity.

The induction process for newly appointed Trustees comprises an initial meeting with the Trustees to brief them on their legal obligations under charity law, the decision making processes of the charity and its policies and procedures. Trustees are provided with a handbook detailing relevant aspects of the trust.

Objectives and activities

The Charity’s objects are to help children and young people from disadvantaged communities around the world through:

Achievements and performance

2024 has continued to be a year where the focus was raising awareness of the Charity. The ongoing generosity of our many supporters, volunteers and partners, the Charity has continued to receive donations of tennis equipment and clothing from students attending amongst others, Kings College London, Winchester College, and historically from Wycombe Abbey School, Caldicott Preparatory School, Glendower Preparatory School, The Falcons Prep School for Boys, as well as from members of Virgin Active Chiswick Riverside Health Club & Gym, Dukes Meadows Golf and Tennis Club and David Lloyd Action. Amaya, Aarav and the Trustees are grateful for the support students, parents, schools, clubs and other organisations have provided by donating valuable equipment.

Financial donations totalling £279 have been received through the year from the sale of used tennis balls.

The Trustees would like to express their thanks to all those who have donated money, in particular, to Ms Patricia Verona whose continued efforts in collecting and selling used tennis balls have raised further donations received by the Charity.

Since sending the first packages of equipment to Uganda in 2017, packages of donated equipment have now been sent to a number of organisations in Africa, including:

Relationships with local tennis clubs in the UK and abroad are being developed, as well as links with other tennis related organisations. Additional fundraising activities and initiatives are being considered.

The Trustees have spent significant time resources during the period in establishing the Charity as a properly constituted organisation, with appropriate governance and management systems. These efforts have continued since the period end and form the basis of the charity’s developing strategy.

Financial review

The Charity had limited income (essentially donations) and expenditure (bank, website and JustGiving charges) during the period. The accounts for the period, drawn up on a receipts and payments basis, The Charity had no assets or known liabilities at the period end.

No amount of remuneration is due to any Trustee.

The trustees see fundraising as a high priority for the Charity, however reflecting the continuing nature of the Charity as a low cost organisation, its activities are supported entirely by volunteers.

Given the above, and the fact that the Charity has minimal ongoing spending requirements, there are no reserves (beyond any cash at bank - which is not formally designated as a reserve), and there is not yet a reserves policy.

No funds were or are held as a custodian on behalf of others.

Risk management

The Trustees have examined the major strategic, business and operational risks which the charity faces and confirm that systems have been established to ensure regular reports are produced for Trustees to ensure all necessary actions are taken to lessen the risks.

Public benefit statement

The trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers or duties.

The Trustees have complied with the duty in Section 17(5) of the 2011 Charities Act to have due regard to guidance published by the Charity Commission in respect of public benefit and in planning the activities for the year, have kept this in mind.

Investment powers and policy

Under the constitution, the Charity has the power to make any investment which the Trustees see fit. Given limited funds, the Trustees have not adopted an investment policy at this stage. Funds are currently held in a charity savings account.

Plans for Future Periods

The Trustees are focussing on promoting and raising awareness of the Charity in the forthcoming year..
