## **Objectives and Activities** 

The Akhirah Team is a UK based charity established to relieve poverty and hardship through the raising and distribution of charitable donations. The charity exists to support individuals and families experiencing economic disadvantages both in the UK and internationally, providing aid and relief to those most in need. 

The charity operates without discrimination. Support is provided regardless of age, ill health, disability, religious belief, gender, or social background. Our work is rooted in the principle that dignity, fairness, and access to basic necessities should be available to all. 

Our charitable activities focus on addressing poverty by providing essential support including food aid, financial assistance, clothing, and other services as determined appropriate by the trustees for each project. The charity also delivers targeted humanitarian and development programmes, including funding for medical treatment,

education initiatives, food parcels, and water access projects such as boreholes, hand pumps, RO plants, and water filtration systems. 

As a non-profit making organisation, The Akhirah Team’s mission is to tackle poverty and improve living conditions in some of the most deprived communities. All programmes are designed to deliver practical impact and meaningful change, with trustees exercising oversight to ensure funds are used responsibly and in line with the charity’s objectives.

As Chair of The Akhirah Team, I am proud to present this Trustees’ Annual Report for the year ended 31 March 2025. This year has been one of the most demanding and meaningful periods in our charity’s journey. In the face of global conflict, humanitarian crises, and rising hardship both overseas and here in the UK, our supporters, volunteers, and trustees stepped forward with unwavering commitment. 

From emergency responses across the world, to longterm projects providing clean water, food security, and livelihoods, our work this year reflects the values that have always defined The Akhirah Team: compassion, trust, and responsibility. I would like to sincerely thank our donors, volunteers, partners, and fellow trustees for their continued dedication and trust.

## **Background** 

This Trustees’ Annual Report has been prepared in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 and covers the activities of The Akhirah Team for the period from **1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025** . The report outlines our charitable objectives, activities, achievements, and governance during the year and demonstrates how the charity has delivered public benefit. 

The Akhirah Team is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation governed by its constitution dated 2 November 2018. The charity is managed by a Board of Trustees who meet regularly to oversee strategy, risk, finances, and compliance. 

Between April 2024 and March 2025, The Akhirah Team delivered humanitarian aid, seasonal initiatives, and long-term development projects across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the UK. 

## **Changes in the structure** 

During the reporting period, Shishu Miah Ali resigned from his role as Trustee & Secretary at the end of March 2025. The trustees formally record their thanks for his service and contribution to the charity. 

A replacement trustee will be appointed as soon as possible, and the trustees are currently in the process of identifying a suitable candidate.

## **Achievements and Performance** 

## **Ramadhan 2024** 

The charity delivered Ramadhan food parcels and hot meals to approximately 31,128 individuals and families across seven countries. This support helped meet essential food needs during the month of Ramadhan, particularly for vulnerable households facing food insecurity, and ensured regular access to meals during a period of increased financial pressure.

## **Cakes, Sweet, Ajwa Ramadan 2024/2025** 

During Ramadan, the charity ran a series of fundraising initiatives including the sale of Ajwa dates, sweets, and our much-loved Double Chocolate Fudge Cakes. All funds raised from the cake, sweets and Ajwa sales were dedicated to supporting Palestine and Lebanon. 

These Ramadan initiatives provided a meaningful way for supporters to give during the blessed month while bringing joy to families through shared traditions. The success of these campaigns was driven by the commitment and hard work of our volunteers, who managed operations and deliveries with care and efficiency, ensuring the initiatives ran smoothly and achieved their intended impact. 

## **Fitrana and Fidya Distribution** 

Through the generous support of our donors, we distributed Fitrana and Fidya to individuals and families in need across Pakistan and Bangladesh. These funds provided essential support, helping households meet basic food and living needs during the month of Ramadhan and at the time of Eid. 

Fitrana ensured that vulnerable individuals were able to take part in the Eid celebrations with dignity, while Fidya supported those who were unable to fast due to health or other valid reasons by providing necessary assistance.

## **Qurbani Initiative** 

We successfully distributed Qurbani meat to 590 families in Afghanistan, Pakistan, The Gambia, Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda. Thanks to our donor’s generosity, fresh meat was distributed to countless families who rarely have the opportunity to enjoy it. 

This act of devotion brought smiles and nourishment to those in need, ensuring they could share in the joy of Eid-ul-Adha. This provided hope and comfort to some of the most vulnerable communities. 


## **WATER PROJECTS** 

In Pakistan, we installed **179 water hand pumps** in rural villages across Punjab, providing local communities with reliable access to clean drinking water and reducing reliance on unsafe water sources. We also constructed a **reverse osmosis (RO) plant** , enabling up to 20,000 families and deprived communities to access clean and safe water on a sustainable basis.

In Bangladesh, we provided **203 water filtration** units, allowing local communities to access clean and safe drinking water. The provision of these units supported improved health and hygiene by reducing exposure to contaminated water, particularly in areas where access to safe drinking water remains limited.

## **Sustainable Projects** 

In Bangladesh, we donated **61 Tella’s** , providing specially designed carts to individuals for the sale of fruit and vegetables. This initiative supported sustainable income generation by enabling beneficiaries to establish small businesses, helping families work towards financial stability and improved living conditions. 


## **Tandoor Project** 

In Pakistan, the Tandoor project provided bread twice a day to **460 people** at a local village, supporting deprived communities through the regular provision of a basic staple food.

## **Education Initiatives** 

In Bangladesh, we distributed **58 school bags** to children from low-income households to support access to education. This ensured pupils were equipped with essential learning materials, helping to reduce barriers to school attendance and support continued participation in education. We also distributed over 500 copies of the Qur’an to individuals and community settings, supporting religious education and spiritual development. This enabled access to essential religious texts, particularly for those who may otherwise face barriers in obtaining them.

## **Hifaz Project** 

The Hifz Sponsorship Project supports 10 young individuals undertaking the memorisation of the Quran by providing essential resources alongside structured guidance and mentorship. 

The initiative promotes both spiritual and educational development, enabling participants to continue their Hifz journey within a supportive and focused environment. As an ongoing project, it continues to inform future planning while aiming to deliver sustainable, long-term benefits to both individuals and the wider community. 


## **Construction Projects** 

In Bangladesh, we distributed corrugated sheets to approximately **45 deprived families** to support home repairs and improvements. The provision of these materials enabled households to repair or replace damaged roofing, helping to improve living conditions and provide safer, more secure shelter.

## **Monthly Sadaqah Projects Delivered During 2024-2025** 

During the 2024 to 2025 financial year, the Monthly Sadaqah Projects continued to respond to a wide range of needs across multiple countries, delivering consistent and practical support through donor contributions. 

The year began with the renovation of a madrassah in Kusia, Sylhet, Bangladesh in April 2024, improving the learning environment for students. 

In May 2024, funds supported a general feeding programme for impoverished communities in Malawi. June 2024 focused on livelihood support in Afghanistan through the provision of chicken and juice carts, enabling individuals to generate sustainable income.

In July 2024, the charity provided 14 sewing machines to beneficiaries in Sylhet, Bangladesh, supporting skills development and self-reliance.

August 2024 saw the delivery of regular meals to children and teachers across three orphanages in The Gambia, benefiting hundreds of individuals through daily breakfasts and lunches. 


In September 2024, essential housing repairs were carried out in West Africa through the rebuilding of a ceiling and veranda for a family home in The Gambia. 

October 2024 focused on improving access to clean water through the delivery of a water project in Tanzania.

In November 2024, the Monthly Sadaqah Project supported orphaned children in Afghanistan by providing new footwear, nutritious meals, and a day of care and wellbeing. 


December 2024 involved a partnership with Give a Gift in Leeds, through which food, essential items, and support were provided to over 100 vulnerable families in Leeds during a challenging period.

From January to March 2025, projects continued to deliver daily impact. In Malawi, 50 of the most vulnerable individuals, including widows, people with disabilities, and those experiencing homelessness, received warm and nutritious meals on a daily basis in Limbe near Blantyre. During the holy month of Ramadan, support was extended to four areas within the Sylhet district of Bangladesh, where 250 families received rice distributions to meet essential nutritional needs. Additionally, Sadaqah funds enabled the provision of a wheelchair for an elderly woman following a leg amputation, restoring vital mobility and independence. 


Across the year, the Monthly Sadaqah Projects reflected the charity’s commitment to addressing immediate hardship while supporting dignity, sustainability, and long-term wellbeing for individuals and communities both internationally and within the UK.

## **Volunteer and Fundraising** 

Volunteers continued to play a central role in the charity’s fundraising and community engagement activities throughout the year. Their commitment, time, and energy enabled the charity to deliver events that not only raised funds but also strengthened partnerships and community involvement. 

In May 2024, volunteers took part in a united fundraising hike at Mount Snowdon in Wales in support of Palestine. This event was delivered in collaboration with One Nation and Hope Welfare Trust and brought together supporters from different organisations in a shared effort to raise awareness and funds for humanitarian relief.

In September 2024, volunteers organised and participated in a Manchester to Leeds sponsored walk for Palestine. The event demonstrated strong community solidarity and provided an opportunity for supporters to actively contribute through physical challenge and collective action.

In December 2024, the charity held a Winter Family Fun Day in partnership with Junior Supports Hub. This community focused event provided a welcoming space for families while raising funds and awareness, highlighting the importance of accessible and inclusive fundraising activities. 


These initiatives reflect the dedication of our volunteers and the strength of our partnerships. Their ongoing support continues to be vital in enabling the charity to deliver its work and extend its reach across both local and international projects. 

## **The Giving Day Initiative** 

Local businesses/organisations continued to play an important role in supporting the charity during the 2024 to 2025 financial year. Several partners, including **Chicken Shack, Osmandthorpe Lane Masjid, SC Glamour, BISON, Naheem Barbers, Ice Scoop, Nanu Sports Foundation. Goat Training and Eye 2 Eye** once again worked alongside the charity by generously donating a portion or, in some cases, all their profits towards charitable causes.

The continued support of these businesses reflects strong community relationships and shared values. Their ongoing collaboration demonstrated a collective commitment to giving back and contributed meaningfully to the charity’s ability to deliver its projects and support those in need. 

## **Deployment** 

During the 2024 to 2025 financial year, the charity undertook several international deployments to support the delivery, monitoring, and implementation of key projects on the ground. 

In April 2024, members of the team travelled to Egypt to support humanitarian efforts for Gaza. The deployment focused on assisting with the loading and preparation of aid trucks, ensuring essential supplies were organised and ready for onward distribution. 

In September 2024, the team deployed to Bangladesh to oversee the delivery of multiple projects. These included the installation of Tella distribution, water filtration units, the distribution of corrugated sheets to support housing repairs, food parcel distributions, and the delivery of feeding programmes. This deployment allowed the team to directly monitor project delivery and engage with local communities to ensure support reached those most in need. 

In November 2024, further deployments were carried out in Tanzania and Malawi. In Tanzania, the team conducted cataract eye screenings alongside feeding programmes, providing essential medical support and nutritious meals to vulnerable communities. The visit also included assessments of potential future projects for consideration. In Malawi, the team reviewed existing projects and supported the opening of a masjid funded by a donor, as well as a borehole delivered as part of the Monthly Sadaqah Project.

These deployments played an important role in maintaining accountability, strengthening relationships with local partners, and ensuring the effective delivery of charitable activities across all regions supported by the charity. 

## **Emergency and Humanitarian Relief** 

Emergency appeals formed a major part of the charity’s work during the year. Food parcels were delivered to Bangladesh Flood appeal.

Aid was delivered to Gaza and Palestine for hot meals, baby milk, water tanks and cash assistance. 


## **Communications** 

The charity kept supporters informed through regular updates on social media and community channels, sharing project outcomes, emergency appeals, and deployment updates to maintain transparency and accountability.

## **Financial Review** 

## Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves 

The Financial Statements were prepared for the 12 months ended 31 March 2025. At the end of the financial year, the charity had a surplus balance to fund charitable projects due at the beginning of the next financial year. 

## Statement of trustees' responsibilities 

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice). 

Law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that year. In preparing these financial statements the trustees are required to: 

- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently. 

- observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP; 

- make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; state whether applicable UK Accounting Standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements and; 

- prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation. 

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011 and the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees** 

As the trustee of the charity, you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act'). 

## **Basis of independent examiner's statement** 

I report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent examiner's statement** 

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention giving me cause to believe: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act or; 

2. the financial statements do not accord with those records or; 

3. the financial statements do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination or I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
