## Objectives and Activities 

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document. 

The Akhirah Team is a UK based charity. The purpose of the charity is to raise funds through donations which are utilised for the benefit of those suffering poverty and to provide aid and relief for those in need in the UK and globally and to ensure that no person is discriminated against the basis of their age, ill-health, disability, religious belief of gender. We aim to aid regardless of social background and aim to assist those suffering from economic disadvantage by providing foods, aid, finance, clothing and other services as the trustees may consider fit for that project. Our mission statement as a non-profit making organisation and charity is to tackle poverty and assist people in the most deprived communities in the UK and around the world. All our programmes aim to change the lives of people and benefit them in terms of providing donations and funding for medical treatments, schools, orphanages, food parcels, water projects (boreholes, handpumps, RO Plants, Water Filtrations) and other causes for which our charity make the executive decisions to raise funds for.

As I reflect on the past year, my heart swells with gratitude and pride for all that we have achieved together. Our three impactful deployments to Turkey, Bangladesh and Morocco stand as a testament to the power of unity, compassion, and unwavering dedication. These efforts, combined with the tireless 

work of our team, have brought transformative projects to life, raised vital funds, and strengthened bonds with charities across Leeds and West Yorkshire. 

It is a profound honour to lead such an inspiring organisation, built on a foundation of excellence and driven by a shared purpose. With our donor’s continued support and trust, I am confident that we will surpass every expectation and bring hope and relief to even more lives.

Background 

Our annual report serves as a platform to highlight the accomplishments we have achieved this year, with our donors assistance. Within this document, you will discover comprehensive updates on the projects we embarked on from April 2023 to March 2024. It will provide a transparent breakdown of how and where the funds raised from your contributions were utilised during this fiscal year. The annual records will also include detailed documentation of the various projects we have undertaken abroad. We would like to express our gratitude to all our donors and benefactor businesses for their unwavering support and generous donations throughout the year.

## **Achievements and Performance** 

## **Tella Project** 

## **(Bangladesh):** 

This initiative provided specially designed carts to individuals for selling fruits and vegetables, creating sustainable income opportunities. By equipping them with the means to start their own small businesses, the project has empowered families to achieve financial independence and improve their standard of living. 


## **Sewing Machine Project (Bangladesh & Pakistan):** 

This project distributed sewing machines to underprivileged women and men with no means of income, empowering them to earn a living through tailoring. It has provided a vital lifeline for these women and men to achieve financial independence and support their families.

**The Water Borehole Project in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Malawi:** provides essential clean water solutions to underprivileged communities. These boreholes play a pivotal role in enhancing health and sanitation, reducing waterborne diseases, and easing the burden on families who previously travelled long distances to fetch water. Each borehole serves as a lifeline, transforming lives and empowering communities to thrive. 


**The Widow Support Project in Pakistan** : offers vital assistance to widows by providing regular food parcels and access to daily tandoor services, supplying fresh bread or naan twice a day. This initiative ensures food security, eased financial burdens, and supported widows in maintaining their dignity and well-being during challenging times.

## **Community Engagement Projects** 

Engaging our local communities through sports and activities has been a cornerstone of our fundraising efforts, allowing us to unite people around shared passions while supporting important causes. In 2023–2024, we organised a series of dynamic events that not only raised critical funds but also fostered a sense of unity, purpose, and camaraderie. 

## **Football Tournament for Girls’ Madrasah in Bangladesh:** 

We hosted an exciting football tournament dedicated to raising funds for a Girls’ Madrasah in Bangladesh. This event brought together teams from across the community, encouraging participation while spotlighting the importance of education for young girls. The funds raised helped provide essential resources to the Madrasah, empowering the students 


with an environment conducive to learning and spiritual growth. 

## **Non-Stop Football Tournament for Palestine:** This six-hour non-stop football 


tournament brought together 40 dedicated players from Leeds and Manchester. Participants demonstrated remarkable energy and commitment, playing back-toback matches to raise funds for 

Palestinian relief. The event served as both a powerful act of solidarity with the people of Palestine and a testament to the strength of community spirit, with players and supporters alike coming together for a shared humanitarian cause.

## **Khan Badminton Club Charity Tournament for Palestine:** 

Organised in collaboration with the Islamic Centre for Gaza/Palestine and the community of Leeds, the Khan Badminton Club Charity Tournament was a vibrant and impactful event. Players from diverse backgrounds competed with enthusiasm, with proceeds dedicated to supporting relief efforts in Gaza and Palestine. The tournament provided an opportunity for community members to contribute meaningfully while promoting health, fitness, and goodwill. Through these initiatives, we have successfully combined community engagement with charitable giving, demonstrating how sports and shared activities can inspire change and make a lasting impact on lives far beyond our borders. 


## **Strengthening Faith and Community** 

The **Masjid Development Project** in Malawi supported the construction of a masjid, creating a vital space for prayer, learning, and community gatherings. To foster community engagement, feeding programs were conducted, benefiting hundreds and strengthening bonds within the local population.

The **Hifz Sponsorship Project** in Pakistan is a pilot project which supported individuals in memorising the Quran by providing essential resources, guidance, and mentorship. This initiative fostered both spiritual and academic growth, empowering participants to preserve and cherish the Quran while building a foundation for personal and community development. 


**Gaza and Global Emergency Appeal:** 

Delivered critical aid to regions impacted by conflict and disasters, including Gaza, Lebanon, Morrocco, Bangladesh floods and Afghanistan. This project provided essential support such as food, medical supplies, and shelter, offering relief to vulnerable communities during times of crisis.

## **Monthly Sadaqah Projects Delivered During 2023/2024:** 

In 2023 and early 2024, the Monthly Sadaqah Projects addressed diverse needs globally & locally, including providing school uniforms, shoes, and madrassah supplies for children, renovating a mosque, and enhancing learning conditions in Pakistan, Kenya, The Gambia, and Bangladesh. 


Humanitarian aid efforts included feeding programmes, food parcels, and blankets for vulnerable families in Bangladesh and Afghanistan, as well as support for homeless individuals in Leeds. The projects also funded water boreholes, housing for widows, and wedding support in Pakistan, and collaborated with Give a Gift to bring Eid joy to vulnerable children, including refugees and asylum seekers in Leeds.

## **Volunteer and Fundraising Efforts** 

## **Extreme Challenges for Charity:** 

Organised marathon challenges to support Palestine and a Ben Nevis climb by the inspiring Halifax sisters to raise funds for orphans in The Gambia. These remarkable efforts united communities, generating vital resources for vulnerable children while showcasing resilience and solidarity. 


**The Giving Day Initiative** united local businesses, including HFC, Cardigan Fish Bar, Legends, Charcoal Chicken, Osmandthorpe Lane Masjid, SC Glamour, BISON, and Ice Scoop, who generously contributed a portion or all of their profits to support meaningful causes. This collaborative effort exemplified community spirit and solidarity, bringing together businesses and individuals to create a significant and lasting impact.

## **Charity BBQs** 

Throughout 2023 and 2024, our dedicated volunteers organised a series of charity BBQs to raise funds for Turkey, Palestine and a Girls Madrassah in Bangladesh. Their hard work and commitment brought communities together, not only to enjoy delicious meals but also to support meaningful causes. 

In Turkey and Palestine, the funds also played a vital role in supporting earthquake victims, providing essential food parcels and medical aid to those in desperate need. These efforts extended beyond education, bringing relief to vulnerable communities during times of crisis. 

Through their unwavering dedication, the volunteers have significantly empowered young girls through education, offering them opportunities for a brighter future, while also standing in solidarity with disaster-affected regions. Their commitment has been instrumental in the success of these impactful initiatives.

## **House Build Projects Update** 

We have successfully completed house build projects in Bangladesh, Turkey (in response to the devastating earthquake), and Pakistan. 


In Bangladesh, we provided secure housing for families struggling with inadequate shelter. In Turkey, we stepped in to support those who lost everything during the earthquake, giving them a safe place to begin rebuilding their lives. In Pakistan, we offered stable homes to vulnerable families, ensuring they could live with dignity and security.

## **Water Projects in Pakistan & Bangladesh** 

In 2023 and 2024, we made significant strides in improving water access by completing the installation of 122 water handpumps across Pakistan and Bangladesh and a borehole in a rural village in Pakistan. These initiatives provided clean, reliable 


water sources for underserved communities, alleviating the challenges of water scarcity and promoting better health. The borehole specifically targeted a remote village, serving the most vulnerable and ensuring equitable access to this vital resource. Together, these projects exemplify our commitment to sustainable solutions that transform lives and empower communities. 

## **Water Filters Bangladesh** 

In 2023, we distributed 300 portable water filters to the most vulnerable communities in Bangladesh. These innovative filters transform contaminated water into safe drinking water, addressing critical health risks and ensuring access to a fundamental resource. This initiative provides an immediate and sustainable solution for families in need, reducing waterborne illnesses and promoting well-being. By empowering communities with these portable tools, we continue to make strides in improving lives through practical and impactful interventions.

## **Ramadan Feeding Projects 2023 (Food Parcels & Hot Meals)** 

Our Ramadan Feeding Projects for 2023 were successfully completed in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, The Gambia, Malawi, and Tanzania. With our donor’s 


incredible support, we were able to provide essential food packs to struggling families, ensuring they had enough to eat during the blessed month of Ramadan. 

These food packs offered much-needed relief and allowed countless individuals to focus on their worship without worrying about where their next meal would come from. Our donor’s contributions brought hope, comfort, and ease to so many. 

The Hot Meals Programme in Pakistan, Bangladesh, The Gambia, Afghanistan and Malawi provided freshly prepared meals to vulnerable individuals, delivering immediate food 


relief. Focused on children, the elderly, and families in need, the programme alleviated hunger while offering comfort and hope to communities affected by poverty and crises.

## **Cakes, Sweet, Ajwa Ramadan 2023/2024** 


During Ramadan 2023 and 2024, our efforts included the sale of Ajwa dates, sweets, and our everpopular Double Chocolate Fudge Cakes. A percentage of the proceeds from Ajwa and sweets sales were allocated to support our broader charitable projects, 

ensuring a wider impact across our initiatives. Meanwhile, all funds raised through cake sales were dedicated to supporting KORT (Kashmir Orphans Relief Trust). These campaigns not only brought joy and sweetness to families during the blessed month but also played a significant role in 

advancing our mission. The success of these efforts was made possible by the tireless dedication and hard work of our volunteers, who ensured smooth operations and timely deliveries, making a real difference in the lives of those we aim to serve. 

## **Fitrana and Fidya Distribution Update** 

With our donor’s generous contributions, we successfully distributed Fitrana and Fidya to those in need in Pakistan and Bangladesh. These funds provided essential support to families, ensuring they had food and necessities, especially during Ramadan and Eid. 

Fitrana helped ensure that even the most vulnerable could join in the joy of Eid, while Fidya provided relief to those unable to fast due to health or other valid reasons.

## **Qurbani** 

We successfully carried out Qurbani in Pakistan, Bangladesh, The Gambia, Malawi, Tanzania, and India. Thanks to our donor’s generosity, fresh meat was distributed to countless families who rarely have the opportunity to enjoy it. 

This act of devotion brought smiles and nourishment to those in need, ensuring they could share in the joy of Eid-ul-Adha. This provided hope and comfort to some of the most vulnerable communities.

## **Deployments** 

Our team’s unwavering dedication and commitment to serving those in need were demonstrated through impactful deployments across the globe during 2023 and 2024. These efforts, supported by the generosity of our donors and the hard work of our volunteers, brought relief and hope to vulnerable communities facing immense challenges. 

## **September 2023 – Bangladesh Deployment** 

In September 2023, the Secretary, accompanied by a core team member and a 


dedicated volunteer, deployed Ramadan 2023 funds to make a tangible difference in Sylhet. Key initiatives included the provision of rickshaws for 

livelihoods, distribution of water filters, school bags, blankets for the homeless, hot meals, and food parcels. These efforts provided much-needed support to families and individuals struggling with poverty and hardship. 

## **September/October 2023 – Turkey Earthquake Deployment** 

The Chairman, alongside two passionate volunteers, travelled to Turkey in collaboration with our partners at One Nation. This deployment focused on delivering aid funded by our Turkey Earthquake Appeal, including essential 


resources to support communities devastated by the earthquake. The visit underscored the importance of solidarity and timely response in the face of disaster.

**January 2024 – Morocco Earthquake Deployment** In January 2024, one of our core team members joined forces with volunteers from Nanu Football Academy to respond to the Morocco earthquake emergency appeal. Working in partnership, they distributed clothing, food parcels, and other essentials to families in 


the affected Atlas Mountains region. This collaborative effort ensured that aid reached some of the hardest-hit and most remote communities. 

Through these deployments, we have witnessed the incredible impact of collective action. From responding to natural disasters to addressing the day-to-day struggles of underserved communities, we remain steadfast in our mission to bring relief and hope wherever it is needed most.

## **Financial Review** 

Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves 

The Financial Statements were prepared for the 12 months ended 31 March 2024. At the end of the financial year, the charity had a surplus balance to fund charitable projects due at the beginning of the next financial year. 

Statement of trustees' responsibilities 

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice). 

Law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that year. In preparing these financial statements the trustees are required to: 

- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently. 

- observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP; 

- make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; state whether applicable UK Accounting Standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements and; 

- prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation. 

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011 and the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees** 

As the trustee of the charity, you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act'). 

## **Basis of independent examiner's statement** 

I report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent examiner's statement** 

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention giving me cause to believe: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act or; 

2. the financial statements do not accord with those records or; 

3. the financial statements do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination or I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
