OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document
The Akhirah Team is a UK based charity. The purpose of the charity is to raise funds through donations which are the utilised for the benefit of those suffering poverty and to provide aid and relief for those in need in the UK and globally and to ensure that no person is discriminated against on the basis of their age, ill-health, disability, religious belief of gender. We aim to provide assistance regardless of social background and aim to assist those suffering from economic disadvantage by providing foods, aid, finance, clothing and others services as the trustee may consider fit for that project.
Our mission statement as a non-profit making organisation and charity is to tackle poverty and assist people in the most deprived communities in the UK and around the world. All of our programmes aim to change the lives of people and benefit them in terms of providing donations and funding for medical treatments, schools, orphanages, food parcels, water wells and other causes for which our charity make the executive decisions to raise funds for.

BACKGROUND
In 2018 five friends from Leeds who share a similar passion for charity work came together with aspirations of making a positive difference in this world by helping people affected by humanitarian disasters and poverty. The scope of this work was going to be both national and international. Two projects were identified at this early stage. Firstly to help the Rohingya people fleeing the genocide underway in Myanmar in 2018 and secondly to meet the challenge of building a mosque within the thirty days Ramadhan 2018 for the small Muslim community living in Stornaway in the Outer Hebrides.
Our decision to become a registered charity was influenced largely by the surprisingly broad media publicity we received from these early projects. We found ourselves unexpectedly inundated by SOS messages (both from the UK and from abroad) from individuals and Organisations alike. It was at this point that we realised that it was necessary for us to formally register a charity in order to effectively respond to these national and international calls for help. The Akhirah Team was thus formally incorporated into a registered charity on the 2[nd] November 2018 to meet these needs.
One of the first appeals we respond to as a registered charity was a request for help from a remote village in The Gambia. In the early days we lacked the robust infrastructure necessary to pull off a project on such a scale entirely on our own, as well as possessing limited experience of intercontinental project delivery. What we did have an abundance of was a great deal of heart and an instinctive desire to bring about positive change to the lives of the people of The Gambia. At this point our delivery strategy was extremely simple. We raise the necessary funds, provide financial help and material support and allow the people of The Gambia take a lead on the ground. This allows us to develop strong local networks and partnerships, while maintaining optimal transparency. Our modus operandi for international projects has remained the same since. We actively seek to work with our local partners on equal standing and encourage meaningful local grassroots involvement.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Charity Gala Dinner 2019
The Inaugural Charity Gala Dinner 2019 hosted by The Akhirah Team, was held at the Queen Ethelberga’s Collegiate in York. Two hundred guests including supporters, volunteers, donors and business sponsors attended this impressively memorable event. The evening offered the opportunity to showcase, celebrate and recognise some of the individuals (both patrons and volunteers) on the frontlines who have worked with committed determination to make our work in West Africa possible.
Drive UK driving school & Rochdale Crescent Radio
Alhamdulillah the Driving school community in Rochdale came together for the Yemen Appeal; and the brothers and sisters of Rochdale managed to raise a staggering £6243.00 for the cause. Brother Asmat and the entire team of volunteers who worked tirelessly on this occasion warrant a special mention. Thank you all! Your passion, enthusiasm and devotion were catching, helping ensure a great result and making it a truly memorable day.
Five Aside Football Tournament
The Akhirah Team held two incredibly successful football tournaments. The veterans over 35’s competition saw a huge turnout and support once again. Over 50 teams registered for the contests. The event was an enormous success. Adults, youths and families were all able to enjoy and participate in the fun packed day together. The Ice cream and burger vans were particular popular It was great to see such a massive turnout and the entire community come together like this in support of a worthy cause.

Shahid Afridi Foundation
The Akhirah Team collaborated with the Shahid Afridi Foundation to distribute food packs in Pakistan. Some of the items included in the packages Rice, Flour, oil, lentils, sugar etc providing basic essential daily necessities to some of the most vulnerable people in the country. Our humility, focus, drive, passion and dedication to help improve the lives of others enormously impressed our colleagues in Pakistan. The Shahid Afridi Foundation is keen to work with us again in the future. All of us at The Akhirah Team would like to extend a huge thank you to the Shahid Afridi Foundation for welcoming us with open arms
and showing such warm hospitality to our team. It made our work in Pakistan even more memorable.
Ramadan FOOD Packs
The Food Packs for Ramadan were distributed in Bangladesh, Gambia, India, Liberia, Malawi, Pakistan and South Africa. The packs consisted of nutritionally valuable food items such as rice, flour, oil, sugar, lentils, onions and potatoes allowing recipients to cook and enjoy nutritionally packed meals.
Covid Response
Volunteers from The Akhirah Team Distributed Pizza’s to local Hospital St James Hospital In Leeds as a token of our appreciation to NHS staff for the amazing work they have been doing to ensure that we get the best possible care. We also distributed chocolates to the elderly. One way or another the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted all our lives, nationwide a great many people have struggled to contend with extraordinarily difficult circumstances. With nationwide lockdowns in force people have been forced to face many unexpected challenges such as being unable to visit elderly and vulnerable family members in hospices for prolonged periods of time. Volunteers from The Akhirah Team worked courageously and magnanimously under these challenging conditions to help the less fortunate and vulnerable members of our communities. Small gestures went a long way to raising morale, especially when front line staff were stretched and tested to their limits. Some of the projects we ran during this time were Feed Cross Gates Good Neighbour Initiative providing essential items. We thank everyone who put others first and got involved in our efforts to help during this unprecedented period in human history.

We have all been humbled at The Akhirah Team by your dignity and the way all of you showed selfless kindness towards others. You should all be tremendously proud of your efforts.
Dec 2020 Christmas Toy Appeal
The Akhirah Team brought smiles and a bit of festive joy to the faces of the elderly and young who are struggling during Christmas. Food bags hand delivered to residents across Crossgates and Leeds. Goody bags filled with gifts ranging from human sized teddies, toy cars and chocolates were also distributed to those with young children. The Akhirah Team would like to thank Lee Sykes from the Co-Op for its amazing donations. We would also thank Katrina Slater and Claire Wall for helping us arrange the drop offs.
Car wash Oldham/Rochdale
There was an incredible turnout at Oldham and Rochdale. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who generously gave and supported the Akhirah Team Car Wash. Masha Allah a whopping £4129.00 was raised for the Yemen campaign in Rochdale alone! A Huge Thank You to the many volunteers who gave up their valuable time and energy to wash cars and sell tubs of sweets throughout the day. Everyone who helped made this event a massive success on the day. Thank you from The Akhirah Team!
Charity Bike Ride Liverpool to Leeds for Yemen
It wasn’t easy. There was a fair bit of blood, a lot more sweat and even some tears. But with terrific teamwork and the enormous effort invested by the entire team working towards achieving a common goal, everyone involved with this campaign made it happen! Masha Allah a staggering £30,975.08 was raised for the Yemen Appeal. A Huge Thank You from everyone at The Akhirah Team to all our fundraisers, volunteers and supporters for helping us achieve this impressive target. Well done!!!
Fitrana
Your fitrana was distributed to the needy and vulnerable in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and West Africa.

Feeding Programs
Your continued support and generosity have enabled us to regularly organise and manage feeding programs in different parts of world. The result has been that have been able to provide nourishing food to some of the most deprived, vulnerable and disadvantaged people on earth in countries like Bangladesh, Gambia, India, Kenya, Malawi, Pakistan, Rwanda and South Africa.
Food bank
This has been a particularly tough year for many in the United Kingdom. But through your continual support and generous donations, The Akhirah Team has been able to help many families facing incredible hardships in the Leeds, Halifax and Rochdale areas. By coming together, we were able to assist and provide food parcels to families struggling in our local communities. The food packages that we distributed contained essential items such as pasta, breakfast cereal, biscuit, milk, sugar, tea bags, coffee, bread, baby food and nappies. This was genuinely one of the best examples of the common spirit of cooperation that exists in our communities to help the less fortunate during hard times. Sister Tahreen and her team of volunteers from Halifax deserve special mention here for their unfaltering dedication to helping the vulnerable. Excellent work.
Gambia Trip
The Akhirah Team has numerous ongoing projects The Gambia. Team members visited the orphanage, the girls’ school and checked up on the progress of construction work. The school feeding program is yielding positive results. Volunteers and team members helped distribute food, provide medical assistance in hospitals and helped pay medical bills of patients. The Gambia Project is an ongoing endeavour, and we will continue to do the work we are already doing there and improve of the outcomes.

Food/Blanket Project South Africa
December 2020 South Africa Winter Food Blanket Campaign. Despite Covid-19 restrictions and the challenges they have placed on us, The Akhirah Team has continued to reach out to those in need across the globe. Our Food and Blanket project in South Africa was a huge success. These packs contained warm blankets and essential basic food items. The packages were distributed to the poorest families to help them through the winter months.
Water Well Project in Yemen and Kenya
Four water wells were constructed in Kenya providing lifesaving clean water to thousands of people of the villages and their surrounding areas. THANK YOU to the donors, without you this would not have been possible.
Ninety-seven equivalent water tankers distributed water to extremely remote hard to reach locations around Yemen, providing lifesaving clean water to the infirm and vulnerable.
7/7 MNDA Challenge
A stunning achievement! A group of volunteers from The Akhirah Team ran and walked seven miles for seven days. Former professional rugby league player Rob Burrows MBE (a son of Leeds who has sadly been afflicted with this awful disease) the team helped raise a whopping £15k+ and raised public awareness about Motor Neurone Disease. Understanding & awareness of this debilitating disease is gradually growing, but more needs to be done in this area to increase understanding and find a cure. Well done to everyone that took part in this project, a great achievement.
Days of giving
The Akhirah Team would like to sincerely thank the many businesses that have supported us throughout the year with the numerous campaigns we have run. We would like to make special mention of the following businesses for their munificent charity and for

The Akhirah Team successfully completed your Qurbani in Pakistan, South Africa, West Africa, Bangladesh and Rwanda. Thank you for your generous donations. Your qurbani helped feed a lot of families in need. We thank you all for your continued support.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves
The charity works towards keeping a surplus in the range of £20,000 for unforeseen financial circumstances at the end of each year. The charity had a surplus as at 31 March 2021 within this range. Accounts were prepared for an 18 month period to 31 March 2021.
Statement of trustees' responsibilities
The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
Law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that year. In preparing these financial statements the trustees are required to:

select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
-
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;
-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; state whether applicable UK Accounting Standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements and;
-
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate lo presume that the charity will continue in operation.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Chanties Act 2011 and the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the chanty and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Respective responsibilities of trustees
As the trustee of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
Basis of independent examiner's statement
I report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention giving me cause to believe:

accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act or;
-
the financial statements do not accord with those records or;
-
the financial statements do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination or
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report m order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of Accounting
(a) The Accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention, and in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities and follow the recommendations in Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice issued in (SORP 2005).
Incoming Resources
- (b) Voluntary income is received by way of donations and gifts and is included in full in the Statement of Financial Activities when receivable.
Income from school fees represents fees earned in respect of the provision of education to pupils during the year.
Income from investments is included in the year in which it is receivable.
Resources Expended
- (c) Resources expended are recognised in the period in which they are incurred. Resources expended include attributable VAT which cannot be recovered.
Tangible fixed assets and depreciation
- (d) Depreciation has been provided at the following rates in order to write off the assets over their estimated useful lives.
Fixtures & Fittings 20% Reducing balance
- (e) No depreciation is charged in respect of buildings which are included at cost.
Fund accounting
- (f) Unrestricted Funds are donations and other incoming resources receivable or generated for the objects of the charity without further specified purpose and are available as general funds.
