During this period the Friends of Gladstone Parf( have supported these objectives with the
ac*i¥ities below.
13 November 2021.. organised eveni for members of the public to help sow seeds of
plants Identified as ￿ing beneficial to ￿tt￿fileS in defined areas in Ihe
park, Seeds and expertise were Frnided by the UK 8utteffly Monitonng PmJecL
15th May 2022: Dawi Cho￿$ bird wdk. A guided walk y￿th an expert to hear and
identify the birdsong heard in the park as the sun rises.
18 May 2022: cereM￿Y to welcome the Sakura dlerry trees. An evenl to mark the
planting in Gladstone Park of some of the 100 thery trees gifted to Brent CouncÉl
from the Japan Bnlish Soa"ety in in 2018 in 4yeciation friendship between
our two nations dating back 150 years. Speaktr5 from the Japanese emba55y, and
organisers of the tree Fmiect aiklre5sed the public alongside the Mayor of
Brent. and food and drink was pro￿ded.
21" May 2022: Nature walk. A wak led by an expert showing the diverse hablt8ts In
the park.
June 2022". Histy of the P* walk Led by a local tour guide and lecturer thls
event also gives local people with long memories the c4)pcw1unity to share their
experiences and add to the knO￿ledge wovided by the Yfalk leader.
3° Juty 2022: Butterty Walk. A gutded wilh an ew8rt to idents.ty and find out
more about the vaiious speries of butterfy in the park at this time of year.
13° Juty 2022: Bal slrrAI. A walk at thsk wth bat monit￿1ng equipment lo deted and
identity the various species of bat ￿VIng in the par
16° July 2022: Tree walk. A guided walk led by an expert to showcase and desuibe
the variety of trees growing in the park
The Friends of Gladstone Pa￿ also organise a heekty Gardening Group consisting of
regular volunteers undertake vaiious tasks to maintain alld improve the park- in

part1￿j1ar th8 walled garden and the copse a￿a. This working grDUP continued throughout
although ￿ryth sooal dist￿c1ng being observed, and any common tools bell)g sanrtised
before and after use.
All trustees have had stghl of the Charity commis&￿,5 guidance ￿ public benefit. to make
sure Ihis is taken into accLNJnt during decision-making.

Achievements and Perfomiance
All Friends ol Gladstone Park activities have an underfying purp06e of encouraging
people into the park to enjoy and benefft from thls beautlful publ1¢ space.
The Gardening Group continued to mantain the waied Gwden in Gladstone Park alon9
ith the forrnal rose beds outside (now refreshed hith the roses purthased by FOGP).
In addition lo the Waled Garden. beds around Ihe upper te￿3(￿ adIa￿nt to the Walled
Garden were maintained. as well as the beds around vthat bfds the bovAing green.
FOGP ojntinued to improved the dea￿l￿"ng ￿n￿ the cA)pse area to help discourage
ant￿SocIal artiifjties there. and to encourage Yradnower areas and fems to enhance the
copse and In￿ase biodiversity.
Members of FOGP and Ihe Gardening Griwp have been acaivety involved with involved w7th
the Big Cty Butterllies project. run by Butteffly Conservation. Wrth the help of a member of
their team, a set route Ihrough the park (a transert) was identif￿d to cover different habitats
wilhin the park Volunteers walk this transect every V￿ek from April to September. recording
the buttefflie5 seen as well as infomiation about the weather conditions at Ehe time. The
obseNats'ons are uploaded to the UK Butte￿ Monrtoring S¢**eme. Adijilionalty, the Big Cty
Buttefflies projed provided seeds to plant strips of pthnator-friendly plants in the par
FOGP funded and carried out the refurbishment of the noticeboards by the 8ntr2nc4s lo Ihe
park whith had become untity and dilapidated.
FOGP organised the fundbng (via grants from the Edward Harvisl TTUSI and Together
Towards Zero) and instdation of new railngs around a number of prevtou* neglected
flowertieds vthith have been replanted. The railings not only smarten up these areas, t￿1
promde a level of protection for the new flower beds to flourish.
FOGP was acllve In enabllng some ofthe d)erry trees glfted to B￿nI by the Saknra Chery
Trees project to be planted in the part and walered and masntained for 3 years to get them
established. They will form a beaulilul avenue from Ihe south side of the park tovrnrds the
maFn chAdrens playground. In addttion. FOGP organised and hosted a ceremony to welcome
these trees into the paTk. Photographs from the event can be seen in the Gall￿ of the

Flnancial Review
At the end ot this period we have £959.89 in the accounl. vthith 15 a healthy amount for us
and a lribule to the generous users of Gladstone Part drop donations into our bu¢keL
Only a small amount remains ring4enced- for bluebells.
The charity does not h(Ad reser4*es as there are no wular outgoings over and above the
annual public liability insurance wemium.

local artlst Vdho donated a per￿fitage of the kyoffts she made from selling prints of the park.

The bulk of the income, however. was from grants pecaficaly to pay orthe new railings in the
park organised by FOGP.

constitiution based on the Foundalion Constttution document provided by the Charities

This statement covers the period 1[st] November 2021 to 31[st] October 2022 

## **Friends of Gladstone Park Account** 

Balance at 1[st] November 2020: **£921.07** 

## **Outgoings : £5,333.12** 

- Public Liability Insurance 

- Website and email costs 

- Plants for the park. Mostly for the Walled Garden, but also for the beds we are beginning to refurbish outside the Stables cafe and in front of the toilet. 

- Ropes used to mark out areas in the copse which should not be walked over while palnts are getting established. 

- Reimbursements for expenses of organising a ceremony to mark the donation of Sakura cherry trees from Japan, and new railings for the park. These were funded by Brent Council. 

## **Income : £5371.94** 

- Donations from Waitrose amounted to £100.00 

- Donations from Amazon Smile amounted to £33.98 

- Donations from EasyFundraising, amounted to £64.35 

- A local artist sold prints of the park and donated 10% of the profits. 

- We arranged grants to fund new railings in the park from the Edward Harvist Trust and Together Towards Zero organisations.  We received £3,400.00 in total for the railings. 

- We hosted a ceremony to welcome Sakura cherry trees which were donated by the Japanese government. Brent Council gave £308.00 to cover expenses for the ceremony. 

- Most of the rest was down to  general donations in the bucket left out while the gardening group is working or given to us during organised Litter Picks or guided walks in the park.
