All the proposals involved<br>collaboration with local partners.<br>Funding was sought for each project and<br>included applications to private donors and<br>public organisations. The Trustees engaged<br>and met with representatives of the Bill and<br>Melinda Gates Foundation and UK Aid. An<br>application was submitted to the Earthshot<br>Prize.<br>A scientific publication was prepared by<br>representatives of the Foundation and the<br>UK National Physical Laboratory, and<br>Manchester and Nottingham Universities on<br>the use of NanoSIMs microscopy to<br>examine_in planta_nitrogen fixation. The<br>results demonstrate that fixed nitrogen<br>derived from the nitrogen-fixing bacteria<br>_Gluconacetobacter diazotropicus_colonised<br>maize, preferentially targeting leaf<br>chloroplasts. This is a significant<br>achievement and a global scientific first.|
