THE RELIEF OF THOSE IN NEED BECAUSE OF LIMB

DIFFERENCE, THROUGHOUT ENGLAND AND WALES BY: (I) THE DESIGN AND PRODUCTION OF 3D PRINTED ASSISTIVE DEVICES AND (II) (THE PROVISION OF SUPPORT, EDUCATION AND PRACTICAL ADVICE ON THE ISSUES RELATING TO LIMB DIFFERENCES AND THE USE OF ASSISTIVE DEVICES.

Summary of the main actvites in relaton to those purposes for the public beneft, in partcular, the actvites, projects or services identfed in the accounts.

• We continue one of our main aims of supporting families by organising our Summer Adventure Day – Cawthorne Cricket club August 2022 which was attended by approx. 350 (this includes our many volunteers) a range of activities – sports, arts, creature ark, emergency services, face painting, toddler activities, Yoga, Lego tent. bubbles, drama, and storytelling events as well as a bbq – all provided free of charge.

• Christmas Party – December 2022 – The Old picture House Barnsley – again free of charge including food and gift from Father Christmas.

• Printed copies of the ‘ Parents’ stories’ booklet printed and sent out in our new parent packs – our parents shared their stories as they all felt that this would have been helpful when they were given a diagnosis or when their child was born. We have had lots of feedback about how valuable this is. Parents gave feedback about their hospital experience and this will be added to future planning.

• 65 new parent packs have been sent out this year – both UK and worldwide – free of charge – these include, parent booklet, copy of latest LimbBo Lowdown magazine, Teddy bear and baby grow/t-shirt (age dependant) and a copy of ‘Our Limb difference booklet’ created by our children. Where appropriate mittens created by Darfield knitting club are included.

• Work in schools – in classes to help children to prepare assemblies around inclusions and raising awareness of limb difference (e.g Darton Primary) – working alongside children to fundraise – (e.g. Horizon). Working with classes on the impact that technology has on our children – (e.g. Lundwood Grange school)

• Childrens booklet – ‘Our Limb Difference’ created by parents and children – a brightly coloured booklet showing our children and what they enjoy doing – football, horse riding, swimming etc – included in parent pack but also sent to schools and limb centres where possible – our children have helped with this.

• Bike Adaptations version 3 teal/mustard now in full production 35 adaptations created and personalised to each child’s specific difference.

• National Limb Difference and Limb Loss awareness month – April – a combined online social media campaign with Koalaa Soft prosthetics (based in London but work UK wide)– to raise awareness.

• LimbBo Lowdown magazine launched to raise awareness – magazine format – also available digitally via our website.

• Working in an advisory capacity with Collins publishers to include limb different characters in their Big Cat series.

• Support fundraising activities and speak at events – e.g. Darfield Knitting club (they create mittens for our new parent packs) Ladies Lunch – Barnsley Rotary Club, Horizon comic relief and Christmas Fair. Cawthorne Cricket club Charity match, Speakers at NHS retirement group

• Run with Rich – Richard Whitehead Foundation supported and attended by KD (trustee) and Tommy.

• Competitions - Sunflower growing and designing a Christmas card – both increased involvement in between our main events – prizes sent and Christmas cards to be produced for sale 2023 Dec

• Inclusions and raising awareness – by including our children’s photographs in 99 Eco Activities (Sarah Watkins). Rainbow Stem (Leonie Briggs) and Yorkshire Sculpture Park photo bank for social media and leaflets (Jane Hewitt)

• Continued to work with Oxford University – JH on BBC South Today and findings published in the Prosthesis Journal Sheffield University Hackcessibles project to work with students and designers.

• Josh – aged 16 appointed as our first Youth ambassador – he has a limb difference himself and his input will be invaluable.

• Four trustees attended Never Say Never sailing camp for limb different children in Clearwater USA(NB Self-funded NO limbBo funds were used) and paid for a LimbBo family of 3 to attend. This helps our understanding and skill set as well as creating links with other major limb different charities.

• Amp Camp kids – Tenerife may – we took 5 families for a week of events at Amp Camp kids Tenerife – activities/accommodation/food and flights paid for by limbBo – meeting dolphins, golf, submarine trip, adventure park and zoo visit, swimming, sports and evening activities. This week allowed the children to form firm friendships and time for adults to relax and support each other.

Achievements and Performance

• We don’t have membership as such, but our social media following has increased – our closed Fb group is at 1, 213 followers and our general account has 2.6k

• Attendance at key events has risen both summer and Christmas events numbers have increased significantly.

• Raising awareness continues – Schools, hospitals, limb centres.

• Inclusions – in books and online literature we are often asked for support in an advisory capacity.

• Number of volunteers at events has increased – many from local companies and some of our volunteers have a limb difference themselves which means they are available to chat to parents.

• 65 New parent packs sent out.

• 35 bike adaptations sent out.

Contributon made by volunteers.

• We continue to be supported by ambassadors who are all volunteers. Most of these are parents of limb different children so are ideally placed to offer both practical and emotional support both online and at face-to-face events.

• Volunteers are vital at our summer and Christmas events which require lots of preparation work beforehand (in practical terms such as putting up marquees etc) and also during the day itself, overseeing activities, cooking food, supporting new parents and interacting with our children.

• Some ambassadors have specific roles such as creating and sending out new parent packs and fundraising packs.

• Many of our parents and their families have undertaken fundraising events to support us.

Other

• We continue to build links and work with other charities and prosthetic companies such as Koalaa soft Prosthetics and Open Bionics (Bristol) who attend our events as well as working on joint projects.

Principal sources of funding

• Our only sources of income continue to be donations.

• We have been supported by local companies and organisations such as Bapp for Bolts and Cawthorne cricket club

• LimbBo is very much a family organisation and our wider family of parents, and their families are the ones who have supported us by fundraising – marathons, events and sponsored events.

• Several donations are made through Facebook, CAF and website donations via EVERFUND

• • Horizon Community College have chosen LimbBo as their charity again this year and raise funds and awareness throughout the year with Danceathons, bake sales and Christmas events. They have introduced preloved uniform sales where parents donate uniform which their child has outgrown, and new parents can purchase items at £1 each which goes to limbBo.

• Dere Street Barristers have chosen LimbBo as one of their Charities for the year and made their first donation of £2,520 in Feb 2023

Financial Review

Throughout this financial year the charity has grown steadily in number of participants, followers, and supporters. Children and families have been supported both Nationally and Internationally (we have sent bike adaptations worldwide) with groups and families meeting across the country at planned and organised events, all free of charge. Once again this has improved the profile of the charity and has led to an increase in donations and fundraising. The economic climate has had an impact on costs for production of adaptations (costs such as 3D filament and printer maintenance), postage and events. As a result of the increase in Electrical charges the charity now supports a proportion of the power supply needed to produce the adaptations.
