Kingsdown Land Trust Annual Report 2021-2022
(Reg. Number 1180482)
15[th] January 2023
Clive Chandler has joined the Land Trust as a trustee and has already helped enormously with the donation of fencing materials as well as assisting with work on the site.
The old derelict fencing has now been removed and new stock fencing has been erected. The gate is left unsecured so as not to exclude local people, but the fence should deter dogs from using the area.
The Kent Wildlife Trust warden and volunteers spent a day in February cutting back all of the bramble and scrub, to enable wildflowers to gain some light. A small amount of rubbish and tyres were also cleared and removed from site.
An owl box and bat box were constructed by a trustee and have been mounted on two suitable trees. We look forward to seeing if these get used in the coming years.
In November the regrowth was cut, again with the assistance of Kent Wildlife Trust volunteers working alongside the trustees. This additional help made it possible to clear the whole site, rake it up and dispose of the waste in one day.
The plan this coming year is to do an early cut of the regrowth and carry out more detailed surveys over the summer.
Hopefully in the spring we will start to see the return of more wildflowers and wildlife while continuing to keep the invasive species under control.
The trust has not accumulated any funds during this financial year and there has been no expenditure.
