The charity has a very small number of volunteers, and thus the organisational structure is flat with all activities and volunteers directly managed by the Chief Executive.

The primary issue and continuing risk is the difficulty in expanding the charity in terms of trustees and volunteers. This has been due to serious illnesses amongst the existing trustees, and the challenging operational environment caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Both of these factors have continued to impact the running of the charity for a longer period of time than anticipated, and have continued through the period covered by this report.

Section C Objectives and activities

To preserve and protect the good mental health of young people at UK schools and colleges by:

(i) Promoting the need for high quality emotional wellbeing and mental health support in schools and colleges.

(v) Providing parents, carers, and young people with awareness of schools and colleges that are pro-actively supporting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of their students through compliance with the AcSEED framework.

(vi) Ensuring that the ‘voice of young people’ helps to drive emotional wellbeing and mental health support provisions in schools and colleges.

(vii) Ensuring that other charities and organisations can contribute to supporting emotional wellbeing and mental health in schools and colleges within the context of the AcSEED framework.

(viii) Providing appropriate support and services as needed to achieve the CIO objects.

The main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to the charity’s objects include:

  1. Maintenance of the AcSEED wellbeing framework and accreditation criteria.

  2. Assessment of applications from schools and colleges for AcSEED accreditation.

  3. Sharing of information and best practice with respect to mental health and wellbeing support in schools.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

As required by section 17(5) of the Charities Act and the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008, the powers and duties of the charity have been exercised with regard to the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity Commission. Whilst the guidance has not been read by all charity trustees, it has been read and acted upon by the Chair of Trustees and Chief Executive. Through this the trustees ensure compliance with the guidance by aligning all operational activities with the charitable objects/purposes defined in the charity’s Constitution.

The trustees use some key metrics to assess the continued value of the public benefit being delivered by the charity. These include the number of schools and colleges applying for accreditation, the number of schools and colleges applying for re-accreditation, and the number of subscribers to the charity’s Newsletter. See section below on achievements and performance for more information on these metrics for the current accounting period.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

In this accounting period the charity has achieved the following:

Other notable achievements include:
Availability of AcSEED volunteers has continued to be extremely
limited due to personal health issues and various logistical
challenges.
The data above illustrates that this reporting period has seen
record levels of applications, new accreditations, and
accreditation renewals.
Further contact from Bromley Youth Council to discuss potential
use of the AcSEED Wellbeing framework in the Bromley area. Not
yet progressed to meaningful discussions.
AcSEED Chief Executive invited to present at the Mental Health
and Wellbeing Conference in Cardiff in May 2022. An exhibition
stand will also be used to help promote AcSEED in a part of the
UK (Wales) where we have had little exposure. In preparation for
this event (the first live event to be attended since Covid
lockdowns) the AcSEED promotional materials and introductory
presentation were updated.

The charity does not have a ‘Reserves Policy’ as the income and running costs are very small. The charity only spends money that it has available, and can very quickly terminate any on-going costs to avoid going into debt.
